Could you imagine our board trying to headhunt an unknown foreign coach!!!!!

I would like us to go foreign because it could lead to the impossible - foreign players and value for money.

Realistically, Chris Powell seems like a good bet. Steve Evans and Russell Slade could also be good options when they get sacked.

I don't thing there is a logical managerial appointment to sort us out. It would have to be someone who can manage upwards and an extremely strong personality. I'm backing Nigel Adkins.

Are you backing NA until we find someone with the attributes you quote?

Nigel Pearson...

Time to drop this bladey blade ness, Nigel lives in Sheffield is a no nonsense manager whose side he built at Leicester are currently winning the premier league, I am in no doubt he could come in here with the millstone of Adkins 40 professionals and have whipped them into a team that if it couldn't have played its way out the league, they would have at least battled thier way to the top 6 all season, he's a big bloke with a nasty streak and a lot of successes behind him..

Why it won't happen.. He would demand a war chest from the board to rebuild with the best developing young players available, and also existing senior players who found themselves out of favour at a bigger positioned club, he wouldn't take any shit and wouldn't be a yes man, his after match interviews would be short but sweet, he's man enough to be honest and genuine, calls it like it is...no spin...he'd also want a decent wage... Count him out now, although I think he's perfect for us this close season ... 3rd Nigel lucky..

Additional, I know a few who have met him first hand and they say he's s nasty piece of work, big, horrible, and sharp.... Seems just what we need to sort out our club, it won't happen with Nice Nigel and his endeavours..

That bastard would certainly bring fixtures such as SUFC v Matlock Town for us , no doubt.

A big no from me .

Also do you think the man would want shit on his own doorstep . He wouldnt even be bothered in managing at S6

Both clubs too close to home.

UTB

He has all these attributes, he wouldn't have achieved what he has in the game if he hadn't. The fact that the biggest structural changes at United in twenty years are happening is testament to his courage. McCabe doesn't like being challenged. Warnock achieved despite many disadvantages and was several times almost hounded out of the club.

Evans and Warnock work together?

I can think of one huge problem straight away.

ha ha ha at least it would never be dull & would make fergies hairdryers look tame :)

Nigel Pearson...

the problems i have with nigel pearson as great a suggestion as he would be because in it the mould. but on a sky sports documentary nigel pearson was talking about his biggest regret in football & was losing the 1997 league cup final. because in his words "he is a big wednesday fan, so is family & grew up mins from ground it wouldve been big dream to win the league cup at hillsborough" its the same chestnut can you imagine neil warnock in charge of wednesday

I'd at least wait until the end of the season. The whole squad assembled for the unveiling of the new manager, first training session, coinciding with the announcement of the retained list...

McCabe: Good morning all, i'd like to announce the new manager, Nigel Clough. Welcome Nigel...

Clough: "Thanks Kev, I enjoyed having 6 months off, apparently you wanted a promotion from League one to Championship on my CV, well i've got that as well in my time off. So down to business"

"Diego, move your range rover from my spot... and take that cap off"

"Collo, Jam, you know whats coming..."

(Clough then draws a line on the wall)

"Right, that line is at 5'8". Lets see what 'fake Nigel' did here. Anyone taller than the line, Jim Phipps has your P45"

"Andy Garner has also checked back through the records of all you lot, anyone not from Scot or who's not played at Derby, please also see Phippsy."

"Scougs, Brayford, Che and Matty D, Daddy's home"

McCabe grabs the microphone , dons the new season kit colour scarf of green and yellow and bawls Lets Be Having You.

Many a true word spoken in jest.

I think the the last man to grab the microphone on the pitch was Derek Dooley on promotion day... Seems so long ago... 10 years?

im still on the fence whether to keep adkins, but IF he was to go. i think Steve Evans & Neil Warnock would be great to get some fight back in this side or try Brian deane who i was hoping for post clough because of his hero status & good job at sarpsborg. but i dont envy our board because we have a huge decision to make in the summer
The ideal would be Adkins carrying out a successful rebuild and taking us up in style for me, but I agree about Evans or Warnock as the right types of manager to handle our current predicament IF he was to go now. Deano would be a bigger gamble.

He doesn't come across as being a strong character. More like an appeaser.

I don't understand the sentence or is it just the conclusion.?

You do know that the pigs approached warlock to manage them don't you..

It all depends how many of the players go at the end of the season, how many are offered contract extensions as a cheap option to actually finding new players and how much of a budget Nigel Adkins, or anyone else, gets to build a team that can win.

I think if Adkins goes there's three possibilities. We employ a footballing manager who needs maybe three years to build a progressive footballing side. Someone like Karl Robinson, who'd be hounded out within eighteen months. Second, we go for a firebrand or blade and retain the majority of the squad, like Steve Evans. He would be deeply unpopular and hounded out within the calendar year, due to the ineptitude of said players, or create a successful but ultimately short sighted style of play. Third, we back the current incumbent and accept that this was always a three year job due to a myriad of longer term factors.

Steve Cotterill
Got Bristol City up after having to rebuild the entire squad. Only a one year contract thou as he is shit above our level

I don't know who would be capable of managing this club. But when Adkins does eventually go (sooner rather than later). I think we must then go after McCabe. We must call his bluff and keep him to his word. Make sure he puts his families stake in this club up for sale, including all fixtures and fittings. We can still play our part because if we show people out there that we still turn up in great numbers to watch a shit team. Then hope, upon hope . . . Somebody might think we're still worth taking a punt on.
.

I'd give Brian Deane a go. We need to try something different.

I would love Steve Evans to get the job. He is the type of manager that typifies what SUFC stands for. Straight out of the Bassett/Warnock mould.
When things aren't going too well on the pitch, a strong likeable character in the dugout will always get "cut more slack" than the aloof "headmaster type" who invariably get their inspiration straight from a clipboard.

Are my eyes malfunctioning? :)

McCabe will be pruning himself up, about to deliver his latest masterstroke in managerial appointments

Paulo DiCanio

Colonel Gaddafi was more likeable than Steve Evans and about as Sane.

Ivor Biggun.

...just putting that out there...
