Not too happy about posting the aftermath of a Wednesday goal but, given the original brief from Walth, here's their first.

Some papers credited the goal to Tommy Craig some said it was an own goal by Eddie Colquhoun
Players from l to r are Eddie Colquhoun, Steve Downes, Tommy Craig, Dave Powell and Alan Hodgkinson

I can't remember that goal, Silent, but I do recall Sinclair's and it was a good goal. He cut in from the right wing and the second picture I've posted shows him slotting it past Hodgy as he comes out.

We were reeling for a few minutes but King Tudor saved the day.

55K in the ground and there you had very good reasons why the H'boro disaster happened a number of years later - it was too full - like bloody sardines. Just as a reminder to those who have never experienced stand up crowds like that - it was dangerous.

It was certainly packed that day but the crowd was 47,000.

Yes you are right about the 2nd goal. The first goal was a mix up and then the ball rolled slowly into the net with no one near it (Wendy fans in the BLUT- where I was sat- were much slower to cheer the goal than the Wendy fans in the Kop). Not many were sure whose goal it was

I'd be pretty sure it's not Wilf Smith.

Are you certain it isn't Sinclair? Can't think what he'd be doing back there but in terms of build and haircut there's quite a similarity with the bloke slotting that equaliser past Hodgy. And I don't think it's any of the other names on Bert's list.

It's not Wilf Smith. He was probably a late replacement for one of the players in the programme

Kenny Burton was a left back so I think LSF got it right

Sinclair was a right winger, Coleman was left winger, Whitham and Warboys were strikers, Craig (a class player) was central midfielder, Prophett and Ellis centre backs, Wilcockson was a full back. Young could play anywhere
 



Wendy's manager, Derek Dooley dismissed our chances of getting promotion after the 0-0 draw! He was wrong!

Been to the Library this afternoon. The Wednesday team in the Gerry Young Testimonial was

Wilcockson
Megson
Eustace
Ellis
Craig
Sinclair
Young
Warboys
Whitham
Coleman
sub Pugh

So the Wednesday player on the left must be Don Megson (his last competitive game was in the 2-1 home defeat against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup in Jan 24th 1970)

I remember a similar ref bottle job at Leeds in an FA cup quarter final , Reece was cut in half in the box but the ref crumbled

I was at that match too but only 9 and stood on a packed (and if I remember correctly open) kop so I saw little of the action. Lost 1-0 and went back following week in league and got trounced 3-0. Hate Elland Road.

leeds were known for being roofless in them days
these were the early days of Don Revie oiling his players up on a bench
 
I too was at the Leeds Q/F remember snooker balls being thrown at Gary Sprake, wonder that he didn't get killed and a woman in a white suit stood on a platform cheerleading in the scratching shed - bet Harry Gration was there

50 years ago today! Jack Whitham on Facebook is quite sure that the Wendy player on far left is Alan Warboys!
