Slave to the NHS.
I am mentally writing this season off now. I'm not saying that we won't get promoted because stranger things have happened to struggling teams in the past and this is football after all and anything can happen.
If this season has affirmed anything for me though it is my lack of support in the directing infrastructure at Sheffield United F.C. I generally try and steer away from the stereotypical bash the board threads however I am finding in incredibly difficult at the minute to have any sort of belief in anybody currently at the club who is tasked with running the place and taking it forwards .
To an extent I understand the whole "Mistakes have been made in the past" statements. But this is nothing new to us is it? We know mistake after mistake has been made and ultimately it was only going to come to something like this. A club that suddenly has to come to a grinding halt and ride out a huge storm in order to put things right and hopefully eventually mount another serious attempt again (but I won't hold my breath).
I actually wonder now whether the club actually regret the whole "transparency" approach in which we have seen Jim Phipps and co addressing the fans via social media. It is hard now in hindsight to look at this as anything other than spoon feeding the fans exactly what they want to hear in order to balance harmony and keep bums on seats?
We then recently heard another textbook statement from Mr McCabe. I understand where he is coming from by the way and I don't think he is deliberately trying to pull the wool over our eyes but I do believe that this should have been addressed a long time ago. Had we been made aware a long time ago that our club was in dire straits in respects to going forward and that a massive transition period was on the horizon as opposed to allowing us to hold false hope, this would have prevented a massive backlash which is in my opinion beginning to show it's ugly head amongst the fans.
Football has a whole however has moved forward ridiculously since McCabe took control at Sheffield United F.C and despite HRH taking a joint control of the club I don't see any real adaptation to suit the ever changing game. I think to an extent we are still stuck at the same point we were a decade ago, after our failed attempt at matching the big boys.
I'm not bashing the board as I feel that overall, attempts have been made to steer this club in the right direction all be it in a way that I don't personally regard as "conventional". But with moving forwards in mind I am struggling to see how this is going to happen under the current ownership? If I put a bet on a football team, I do so with previous form in mind and in similar respects this applies to Sheffield United F.C. How can I back the club going forwards if I have no real form to go on?
Sorry about my miserable rant but this is honestly how I feel right now. Nothing new to some I suppose.
