After the disappointment of the defeat against Wednesday three days previously, the Blades faced Scunthorpe United at home. It was a nervy performance but thanks to goals by Lee Williamson and a deflected Stephen Quinn goal we won the game 2-1 to increase the gap between us and Wednesday. The crowd was 16,165 (I bet we get more tomorrow against Burton Albion).
During the game, rumours began circulating around the Kop that Wednesday had sacked Gary Megson. The crowd left happy - Wednesday were in chaos and we were comfortably in second place. What could possibly go wrong?

Tuesday 29th February 1972, afternoon kick off (because of power cuts). Blades 3 (Dearden 3) West Ham 0. My headmaster kindly allowed me the afternoon off work. My dad couldnt take me because of work so a friend of his took me to the match

The memory gets a bit fuzzy now, but wasn't that the perfect hat-tick? Left foot, right foot, header?

Not sure. Dearden's goals were usually from close range. Woody and TC's goals are more memorable as they were usually screamers We also had a goal disallowed in that match too

Billy Dearden.

Oh what I would give to have that bloke wearing number nine these days.

Now there's a story from a bygone age. Someone could probably get locked up for that now.

I also remember playing QPR at home on February 29th 1992 in a 0-0 draw. The most memorable thing was at half time a woman proposed to her boyfriend for Leap Day. The Blades fans were chanting for him to say no!
