Nucleus?

Sharp
Brayford
Che
Maybe Reed...
Maybe Long...

Tough call eh?...lot's to do...

Sharp
Best player. Like to see how he gets on with players who arent totally crap around him

Brayford
Hoping he can get back to some form. He has been consistent most of his career so I hope he would get back to his best in a better team

Long
Still not sure but he's done enough to earn another year

Basham
Basically because he can do a decent job almost anywhere in the team if injuries are high

Adams
Could get better

That's how I took it. As Alco says getting rid of shit is difficult. Getting it to just leave even more so.

In reality we are fucked this season. Let's get to the end and only then will we see if Adkins is the man we need him to be. Thus far he has been disappointing but with mitigating circumstances. Next season assuming he is given the chance then all the excuses have gone.
One of the problems with binning too many is that what if he brought in 15 players? You'd have to again give that team time.

On one hand it would be nice to start from scratch. Realistically he'd be better with a sightly bigger base than 5.

UTB

We don't have 5 to build a good side around, but I'd keep...

Long (50/50 whether he could be first choice next season)
Basham
K Wallace (versatile squad player who can improve)
Reed
Coutts
Cuvelier (on reasonable terms if he can prove his fitness)
Done (versatile squad player who can score)
Sharp
McNulty (bit too early to sell him)
Adams (but sell if we get a half decent offer)

We could sell Brayford to pay for Adkins' compensation.

If we're talking first teamers who could be part of a promotion side that leaves the long list of...

Basham (with the right centre back partner or in a back 3)
Sharp
Cuvelier (possibly, if fit)

Long and Adams are on the borderline, both need to improve. So I suppose they'd be my 5.

I said yesterday that i'd have my base of 6 (as mentioned), but i think its more realistic to keep 12, like Ricky says players like Basham, Flo and a couple of others (i think adkins will bring Hammond in on a permanent deal)

So 12, plus 4 permanent, experienced players to build the spine (CH, CM, CF), a couple of loans and then half a dozen or so U21 players on the fringe of first team, some being sent to get loan experience elsewhere.

That

That is fine but why keep any who are clearly not good enough and not gelling anyway? This lot has had 2-3 years to mix and build something. They haven't. I dont see the alternate of having nearly a brand new team as being any worse.

So starting from scratch totally fine for me.

I'd keep Sharp, Adams and Brayford

Then maybe Basham, Done, K Wallace and Long as squad type players. If Coutts could play 90 mins I'd keep him but he cannot do 45.

Rest can go

I actually believe if you added 3 key players to the current squad (CH CM CF) we could get promoted with it.

Very average teams can be promoted with quality in the right areas.

The problem we have is that we are paying below average 3rd division players championship salaries, so we can't afford the quality we need.

UTB
I agree. Same as last May, unfortunately,

That

I don't disagree. But further up, I've argued that I don't think we have many who are "clearly not good enough". They are just bang average. It's lack of quality that costs us.

Most of our players could form part of a promotion winning team, with quality additions. But no combination of the current lot would do it.

The galling thing is the pay they get. For the quality they offer. It's a dreadful payback. :(

Get a keeper in who speaks.

I'd keep sharp if his legs haven't gone and Adams. Every one else can go.

Basham
Coutts
Brayford
Adams
Sharp

Edgar
McEveley
and JCR if Im allowed 3 more.

Maybe like Simonsen? You were always a big supporter of his......

Simonsen was better than Long. If Simonsen had not been dropped and Long brought in in the Ched Evans season, we may well have gone up due to not having Long throw us points away. His comedy display v Exeter springs to mind.

Yeah whatever.....:)

By the way, Exeter would be the 2011, 2012 season where Long played 2 league games. Won one (MK Dons), drew one (Exeter), clearly he cost us promotion..... lol.

Any bets
They'll keep McEveley. ffs

Yes they will, 100%. I wouldn't be dead against that but ONLY on a one year contract and ONLY IF there's no way he'll be first choice. Same goes for Collins too. Both are decent enough professionals. Realistically we will need to keep some of those players most of us would rather see released. We can't go into the summer with only 6 or 7 players, it would give us far too much to do. We'll also need squad players. It makes sense to retain current players as squad players rather than recruit new ones. All signings should be first choice players, and if we're not unnecessarily spending money on squad players we should be able to sign first choice players of higher quality.

Not seen a lot of Flo yet, but he does runs a cross the pitch a lot, he needs to turn upfield

Hes had a terrible run with injuries. I think hes worth a lower deal or pay as you play deal for sure. I think with a full pre season under his belt he could be a key player next year if he stays fit.

Id also keep dcl and probably reed as a squad player. The rest though.... They need to be gone asap.

Reed.
K.Wallace.
Calvert-Lewin.
Adams.
Long.

I'd love to say Kennedy too.

Here's Adkins 5

Collins
Edgar
Hammond
Sharp
Burn... We're signing Dan burn in the transfer window which hasn't shut, dot ya know...

I dont just tbink its the lack of quality they will offer either.
Its mentality. They just dont possess the mentality to win. If we keep most of these players then when we bring in some new players then they could becoming into a losing atmosphere.

Bring in the broom. Sweep the lot out. Then any potential incomings wont be tainted with the stench of the old squad.

I predict we'll start pre season with the following...

Long
Howard
Brayford
Collins
McEveley
K Wallace
Basham
Reed
Cuvelier
Woolford
Done (possibly sell)
Adams
Calvert-Lewin
Sharp
McNulty (possibly sell)

Then inevitably sign Hammond on a lucrative three year contract.

So that's 16. That's probably the reality we're facing. And we'll be lucky to get rid of the likes of Freeman and Wallace too. We'll also be lucky if he doesn't decide to sign Edgar permanently.

Reed.
K.Wallace.
Calvert-Lewin.
Adams.
Long.

That reads relegation to me would only keep one of those maybe 2 at a push depends how Reed develops in the run in. Calvert -Lewin why ?

That's not the full squad Sitwell;)

Oh and I did forget Sharp of course, Knock Long off for Sharp.

I'd try to get cash from Burton for Brayford and Coutts and take it from there.

Last season I really liked Done but have seen nothing from him this season. Maybe keep him if we can't get back what we paid, which we won't!!

All the others can probably do with getting S2 out of their system.

Oh, just for you, add Baxter if he's Not Guilty!!

So that's 7/8 with 15 or so players to recruit. Bloody Hell:eek:

Burton will not be able to afford Coutts or Brayford even if they go up ,Done will want to leave after yesterday (well done stoney wankers) . Which of the numerous offences is Baxter not guilty of and why the hell would we want him ?? No Basham ?
What about the manager ?

Adams, Sharp and possibly JCR.

And Adams can fuck off too if he doesn't sort his attitude out.

The rest can go directly to hell because I despise them.
