I don't understand why people keep saying this. He got his ban, 5 months of which 3 were suspended, in July last year, some of which he'd already served. The suspended ban ran out ages ago.
But a second offence will carry a less lenient sentence

Did anybody really believe him last time when he said his drink was spiked?

No but you are double stupid if you put that defence up and then continue to use drugs. Guys an arrogant, self centred knob end whose wages fans have funded. He obviously feels the rules don't apply to him (not unlike many footballers). So we now have had a rapist, wife beater and drug user. Gets better and better for us as a family club doesn't it.

Christmas do at the dogs next for them. ;)

Anybody know anything about a message from Baxter stating that he will start next season with a new club, saying it is best for everybody ?. On the wifes mobile but she can't access the story.

Most of these replies, just goes to show how much fans know about football and the real roots of the game today, which is MONEY. I have to laugh at comments like its over for him, please Sheffield United our own club were prepared to give a convicted rapist another chance and so were other clubs, so taking drugs in the scheme of things is pretty small. I do not know when his contract runs out but if it not this year Sheffield United will not sack him they will keep him simply because he is an asset he has some value to the club, even if they released him lower clubs will sign him in fact I bet they will be queuing up a free signing, his wages will most likely be lower, but Baxter will not mind he has enough money and he will look at it as a new start. he's only 24 so still plenty of time to impress if not in England abroad.

Peteblade did not believe him.

Peteblade thought he was a silly bastard who used a dumb excuse and couldn't believe he was taken seriously.

Peteblade thinks Baxter is a bit of a twat that should ply his trade elsewhere.

GreasyChipBeattie is responding in the 3rd person singular like PB did because GreasyChipBeattie thinks it sounds cool. Thing is, GreasyChipBeattie doesn't really have anything constructive or worthwhile to add to the debate. GreasyChipBeattie thinks that makes GreasyChipBeattie a bit of a saddo if I ask myself.

Ched Evans career going well, is it?

If fans had not complained and sponsors were going to pull out, he would be wearing the Blades kit today, what would make it even more laughable is the blades fans would be clapping and cheering when he scored, football today is about money to the club, and promotion to the fans. Principles seem to mean nothing in any sport.

If you believe as Tezza does that there may discrepancies in the case then yes, another chance would be merited, why wouldn't you cheer a man who might have been wrongly inprisoned and persecuted?

As for cheering on if he scored, I'd cheer on the Boston strangler at the moment if he was knocking them in for the blades...

(People with a sense of humour failure need not reply)

Bayingblade thinks GreasyChipBeattie would get sick of typing "GreasyChipBeattie" all the time and soon revert to using "I", whether he thinks it cool or not.;)

There's still more chance if him playing for us than Ched and he's been dead forty years.

No especially after talking to someone who knows him which was the reason why I was disappointed when we gave him another chance

This set me thinking Silent. Given that a lot of this took place not that long after the PR debacle for Sheffield United that was the Ched Evans affair and, acknowledging that Baxter did have some financial value before all this and that he isn't the brightest crayon in the box, I do wonder whether the club were

a) just totally naive in accepting Baxter's story at the time,
b) predisposed to believe it for reasons of its own self interest,
or
c) an active collaborator in constructing the defence.

None of these casts the club in a great light but I would like to think it was a) above but I have my doubts.

Not quite right SdP. Baxter's sentence included three months suspended for two years. Basically, that means that he had to keep his nose clean (arf!) until May 2017 or that part of the ban would be invoked.

Testing positive for cocaine, if the rumours are true, is a pretty surefire way of invoking that suspended sentence. He'll get at least a two year ban.

Balham Blade despairs at the idiocy of some people. Jose Baxter is in the vanguard of that group.

But poor little Jose didn't know it was cocaine ,and he thought taking salt up your nose was a trendy new eating habit, or someone out it up his nose when he was sleeping. Would we believe this to save a few quid ?

As an aside would anyone on here like to see Jose in a Utd shirt again ?

Sorry William, I'm a bit of a techno phobe, said it was on the mns sports site if that's any good.

There was a post on twitter from an @Bollandsufc_ yesterday afternoon saying 'Heard some interesting news about Jose Baxter today..#sufc' then in the comments underneath from the original tweeter 'my auntie cleans his house, apparently his girlfriend as said they won't be here for much longer so thanks for everything etc'

That's all I've found anywhere else - not seen any direct quotes.

The club are obliged to suspend a player if they fail a drugs test. So strictly he isn't serving any FA ban at the moment.

The B sample will have to be confirmed then Baxter will have to decide whether to plead guilty or appeal.

Tactically, he should plead guilty and start to serve his ban immediately because that will include May, June, July where he wouldn't be playing any football anyway.

His best case scenario is the 3 month's suspended plus 6 months minimum. He could be playing again in December.

However, given he appealed last time, they would probably take a dim view.

My bet is he won't play any football next season. He'll get one year plus his suspended 3 months.

He'll be looking for a new club In August 2017.

Indeed, CB, there's a lot about the whole escapade that doesn't look good.
After his 6 months ban, I wonder what we as a club actually did to manage this situation?
Given the lads history involving drugs over many years, he was clearly high risk; so I wonder if the club were pro-active and set up their own testing unannounced drug regime for employees?

Which organisation undertook the drug test that actually caught him?
I'd really hope it was the club's own testing ! If it was the FA testers then we have failed..
How well was he monitored, how much support did we actually give him?
Remember we invested a lot in Baxter in terms of transfer fees, wages and potential resale value.
To me this about managing a problem, and by implication a reflection in part on Adkins, and the Board.
Duty of care stuff here.

I really hope we as a club attempted the carrot and stick approach to try and help Baxter sort out his own life and career.

I think he could be THE man to spearhead our promotion campaign from League 2 in the 2017/2018 season.

If he's found guilty, no. Then again, even if he's not, this will be the third time something has gone off in the club involving him, nah, get rid either way.

Is your post directed from a financial viewpoint or a caring viewpoint. I would agree to the first but the second one I don't ,we cant molly coddle every player and especially ones like Baxter.

Ah I see. I stand corrected, thanks!

Yes, I'm expecting two years for him, if indeed true.

A comment on a tweet said my auntie cleans his house and Baxter's girlfriend said to her...

An ITK classic.

I haven't had time to read many threads this week, or anything much online.s anyone actually confirmed that it is a failed Drug test, or is it all just supposition?
