Most of these replies, just goes to show how much fans know about football and the real roots of the game today, which is MONEY. I have to laugh at comments like its over for him, please Sheffield United our own club were prepared to give a convicted rapist another chance and so were other clubs, so taking drugs in the scheme of things is pretty small. I do not know when his contract runs out but if it not this year Sheffield United will not sack him they will keep him simply because he is an asset he has some value to the club, even if they released him lower clubs will sign him in fact I bet they will be queuing up a free signing, his wages will most likely be lower, but Baxter will not mind he has enough money and he will look at it as a new start. he's only 24 so still plenty of time to impress if not in England abroad.

Given that a lot of this took place not that long after the PR debacle for Sheffield United that was the Ched Evans affair and, acknowledging that Baxter did have some financial value before all this and that he isn't the brightest crayon in the box, I do wonder whether the club were

a) just totally naive in accepting Baxter's story at the time,
b) predisposed to believe it for reasons of its own self interest,
or
c) an active collaborator in constructing the defence.

None of these casts the club in a great light but I would like to think it was a) above but I have my doubts.

That's all I've found anywhere else - not seen any direct quotes.

The B sample will have to be confirmed then Baxter will have to decide whether to plead guilty or appeal.

Tactically, he should plead guilty and start to serve his ban immediately because that will include May, June, July where he wouldn't be playing any football anyway.

His best case scenario is the 3 month's suspended plus 6 months minimum. He could be playing again in December.

However, given he appealed last time, they would probably take a dim view.

My bet is he won't play any football next season. He'll get one year plus his suspended 3 months.

He'll be looking for a new club In August 2017.

After his 6 months ban, I wonder what we as a club actually did to manage this situation?
Given the lads history involving drugs over many years, he was clearly high risk; so I wonder if the club were pro-active and set up their own testing unannounced drug regime for employees?

Which organisation undertook the drug test that actually caught him?
I'd really hope it was the club's own testing ! If it was the FA testers then we have failed..
How well was he monitored, how much support did we actually give him?
Remember we invested a lot in Baxter in terms of transfer fees, wages and potential resale value.
To me this about managing a problem, and by implication a reflection in part on Adkins, and the Board.
Duty of care stuff here.

I really hope we as a club attempted the carrot and stick approach to try and help Baxter sort out his own life and career.

Is your post directed from a financial viewpoint or a caring viewpoint. I would agree to the first but the second one I don't ,we cant molly coddle every player and especially ones like Baxter.
