Pigs having a clear-out in 2004 was rather fortuitous for us!

The Pigs let 5 in at Liverpool on the same day as well![]()
I had forgotten that, and am glad to be reminded of it!
That was also Simon Tracey's league debut for us.
A mate of mine went to a house party that evening and many Blades players were there. Wally Downes was taking the mickey out of Simon Tracey for his dropped catch that led to Huddersfield's goal, Tracey didnt look happy!I had forgotten that, and am glad to be reminded of it!

Also in the opening day of the 2005/06 season. We were struggling in the 1st half at home to Leicester but we went ahead at half time with an Andy Gray penalty. Early in the 2nd half, Leicester equalised and they were still dominating the game until we were awarded a second penalty for a handball that most of the crowd didnt see. The ball was going towards out of the penalty box but it hit the hand of a Leicester player near the edge of the spot and ref Lee Mason spotted it! We put the penalty away and then we were comfortable after that scoring two more goalsAnyone remember the Huddersfield home game in 1989? Let's see if I have this right:
first 5 minutes: penalty to Huddersfield - Craig Maskell puts it wide
late in first half - United take the lead in an even contest when Huddersfield handle in the box. 1-0 thanks to Duffield
just after half time - Duffield scores wonder strike from 25 yards after breaking from our half - 2-0
48-75 minutes - Huddersfield lay siege to United's goal and manage to pull one back - 2-1
about 75 minutes - in a rare foray upfield for United, Andy May scores a daft own goal - 3-1
80-90 minutes - Huddersfield run out of steam, and Bryson (I think) and Deano add late goals - 5-1
We won 5-1, and there's a good argument that Huddersfield were the better team on the day...
Whoever said we only have lucky games is spot on. We never seem to have things break for us. We haven't had help from anyone else to send us up or keep us up since Burnley-Hull.
In my relatively short lifetime I can only think of the time we scraped into the play-offs in 6th place ahead of Birmingham because for that one season, league positions were decided on goals scored rather than goal difference which was actually inferior.
I think it was the year we got knocked out by Sunderland at the semi stage. 1998/99 maybe?
The 3-2 last minute win v Hull in the promotion season was pretty lucky and a decisive result. I'm sure a concussed Paddy got away with a blatant penalty before we snatched the win?
How about when we would have played the pigs in the cup a couple of years ago, except that they lost (a replay?). We know what would have happened.
Birmingham were playing against Charlton in the last game of the 1997-98 season. We were away to Stockport. We lost 1-0 (Cooper scored). Birmingham had a point black header that was brilliantly saved by Charlton's keeper in the dying seconds and could only draw 0-0In my relatively short lifetime I can only think of the time we scraped into the play-offs in 6th place ahead of Birmingham because for that one season, league positions were decided on goals scored rather than goal difference which was actually inferior.

I was at the Huddersfield game and sat in the top of the b. Lane stand ( yes with the away fans , young and stupid etc). Anyhow I'm sure someone took a penalty or shot and it hit the inner stanchion and came straight out without the goal being awarded, always thought it was their penalty but I'm Happy to be corrected.Anyone remember the Huddersfield home game in 1989? That's the one I think , didn't he catch it and the red didn't give a pen . Alcohol on match days f. MeThe stanchion incident as Cockerill doing that v Grimsby at the Lane end on 29/9/84
Following week we beat Blackburn 4-0. Ted misses a penalty.
That was lucky for them not us. We'd have battered them. We were on fire dispatching Southampton and Charlton and the pigs were dipping. That was when Brayford was good.
Been supporting the blades long mate?
Of course we should have battered them but come on....your view is a triumph of hope over experience.
We were 2 down at QPR with 2 mins left. Woody, Hemsley (pen) saved us. I was at a reserves match that day and left the Lane thinking that the 1st team had lost 2-0 but there were confused shouting at the exit and there was a man signalling 2-2 with his hands so we rushed in back in the ground to see the confirmation of the final score at the Pavilion scoreboard. Yes Hemsley skied his penalty effort the following week when we were already 5 up against BlackburnReally pulling on the memory bank with this one so hope it's correct. Toward the end of the 1970/71 promotion season, away at QPR and Ted slots it home to give us a point. Following week we beat Blackburn 4-0. Ted misses a penalty. Luck has it that it was the one against Blackburn he missed and not the one the week before.
Deano scoring against Watford with a grass cutter that hit a bobble over Tony Coton's head.
I was going to nominate this - the biggest bobble ever - but I could have sworn it wasn't Tony Coton??? 4th goal in a 4-1 win???
Made Simmo's attempt look like a near miss. Only balls I've seen further up the Kop were when cricket was still being played.
