My advice to all of you is don't listen. If you're an exile, either log on here or just follow the text commentary on BBC or Sky.
I can't stand listening to radio commentary and it gives you no perspective of what is actually happening. For example, many of you will remember some years ago we played Barnsley in the FA Cup and after 2 games, before the days of penalties deciding replays (don't get me started on this no replays cobblers), we won at Oakwell 1-0 with an Agana penalty in extra time. I was listening on the radio and they were describing a passage of play that appeared to suggest Barnsley had the ball and were on the attack, a second later the commentator squealed, "It's a penalty", my heart sank as I assumed we had conceded but no, apparently we had won a penalty, god knows where it came from. Despite us winning I decided it was too torturous to listen on the radio and never did again, too stressful.
With regard to Praise and Grumble, I can't listen to that either as I can't stand listening to these half-witted football no-nowts who just want to hear themselves on t'wireless like.
Kind of goes like this :-
Presenter : And we have Gary on the line, Gary is it a praise or grumble?
Gary : Praise.
Presenter : Gary can you turn your radio off in the background (you know instantly that Gary is an attention seeking half-wit).
Gary : (disappointed) aw right.
Presenter : So who's your praise for then Gary?
Gary : Sheff'eld Wensdi
Presenter : Ok Gary, and what are you praising them for, did they play well, good tactics was it, did you admire the strategy with which they set up?
Gary : Eh, they were just rayt good like.
Presenter : Ok, thanks Gary, next caller is Dave......
I'd find it more insightful to listen to the wife's views on which player is the nicest looking.
Don't waste your life with it, when you can waste it tapping your keyboard and finding some really insightful stuff on here typed by the game's premier thinkers and strategists.
