One bloke near us who likes to hear his own voice, as usual was slagging Adkins so everybody could hear him in first half when we were passing it along the back, then he screamed when young Reedy sent a long ball too far. Bloke a few rows down stood up and told him to shut the fuck up!!

Not so bad I thought. It was nice to hear a bit of singing. The good thing about being fickle is people are as quick to get behind them as to turn on them. All that was required was the extra effort and at least some sign of a desire to get forward and we had a much warmer crowd than in recent weeks.

Re the jeers at backwards passing, I think (hope) a lot of us are equally showing frustration at the lack of movement that is the root cause of much of it.

One passage that comes to mind: ~75 mins a free kick near the dugout is played short, I think it was Reed that had zero option than turn to the then flat back 5 who were then pressured into sideways passes to Woolford who is then in trouble deep on the left hand side and I think played it back to Long (might be getting mixed up with a dozen other Woolford->Long passes today). All because no one showed up at the free kick or for Reed.

Really it's the frequency rather than the principle.

The quality of support throughout the season overall has actually been far better than it was the season after relegation from the Premiership when we were getting around 26k and it was still deathly quiet.
Considering the shit we've had this season it's been far better and less critical than it could be.

Not saying that forward passes were sometimes "on" but not made / seen. But I would trust our manager and players to decide when the penetration and transition should be made above lumping hopeful balls forwards every day of the week.

We completely dominated that game from minute one and for many, cos the ball was not in the danger areas for the entire 90 mins, this constitutes negative play !!!!

Not looking for a row but seriously, quite a few need to get a basic grasp of tactical understanding before spouting nonsense.

I think we only dominated the first 15/20 of second half but we had the better chances to score I honestly say they didn't have one attempt. Their number 9 was best player on the park today.

They started the 2nd half well, we stepped it up for 10 minutes (granted) and scored a goal.

They then chased the game and had the majority - we seemed intent on hitting it long as to the high line they played.

Can I just add once again - That was PORT VALE, on our patch, having a BBC quoted figure of 57% possession of the ball.

In terms of using the ball effectively in two thirds of the pitch - they pasted us - with nothing but poor attempts at goal up front - stated as 5 on the BBC site.

Our very expensive (10K per week) centre forward ultimately made the difference - it's a shame our 5 in midfield couldn't create a few more for him.
