Thank god we sacked Clough eh?

Ah the old 'But he got us to two semi-finals' bollocks. Like it somehow has any bearing whatsoever on long-term developments in the squad, bless.
Kevin Blackwell saved us from certain relegation too, yet by the time he was sacked I was the only fucker left defending him as well. The difference being that he didn't sign a bunch of his ex-minions on inflated wages who turned out to be a bunch of playboy scumbags.
And he didn't create an ethos of "sit-back-and-see-what-happens" amongst his players on the pitch either, one which still continues to this day but Nigel 2 seemingly lacks the bollocks to eradicate.

But still, Wembley and all that, eh.....?

Blackwell should have been fired post play off final. He wanted to go and he had done everything he could. Clough on the other hand was in the middle of building something. He got one full season and in my estimation that isn't enough. Adkins needs more than one full season to prove whether he is the man or otherwise.

You may or may not agree, but one of our problems has been McCabes decision making. He sacked Blackwell on the back of a defeat having not really done much wrong apart from lose to Warnock that season. If you were going to fire him it was the end of the season before. He let Warnock go and replaced him with a cretin, he sacked Wilson without a tangible plan when Wilson had already had the rug pulled from under his feet selling his best striker.

We keep sacking managers but we aren't getting any better. Adkins will need time to clear out the players he doesn't want and replace them with those he does. Had Clough been at the helm this season then his plan was a good 12 months further on. Had we been in the position we are now we would have been within our rights to say "sorry pal it's not working" and getting rid.

Mistakes keep getting made and repeated and the only people who keep their jobs are the ones making the bad decisions. We have a bunch of players now hoping this manager will get sacked before their contracts run out.

I'd be happier with your argument if you stayed clear of the "overpaid" bit. You don't have a clue who is earning what any more than the rest of us. Fish wives tales and tittle tattle are stopping the actual people to blame for this farce facing the blame.

The money Clough earned for Sheffield United was huge ,the myth that he bought too many players is just that ,he got rid of more than he acquired , you cant just throw off 2 semi finals as though they never happened that's just pathetic. We were bottom of the league we brought him in and said this time its for the long term ,got rid of his main asset gave him 18 months where we ended up in the play offs ready for a proper pre season where he had players he wanted and others he could get rid of ,where he knew what we needed and he was well on course within the time frame we had hoped for. Short termism and stupidity by a pathetic board who listened to the modern day impatient supporters and sacked him. ask any fans of any other club what they thought of it ,and most professionals in the game and they all say it was ridiculous. Hindsight is an easy weapon but some us said this all along. The worst decision by our board since not backing and letting Warnock go. Unfortunately we are now reaping what our board and some fans deserve.

Excellent.

I agree that we should have kept Clough, he knew the problems and seemed to have it in hand.

We can't say is why he was sacked, we can speculate but no where have I seen the reason in print.

What this season has done is ask more questions that I have no answers to.

Why is the guy with the great CV failing?
One theory I have is that the players are not able to make decisions for themselves on the pitch, is that why Hammond was brought in?
Did Clough rule them as he did because he had to? Did he have to tell them their jobs every game?
Does Adkins leave it to them and they can't think/sort out problems during the game?

I could drive myself mad thinking about what's going wrong.

There wasn't a huge cry by supporters to sack NC, that was an owner/board decision. Did he make huge mistakes in recruitment last season, he did, that is a fact, did the owners allow him free reign, clearly they didn't monitor the situation that's obvious by the situation we find ourselves in now. I would be intrigued to know what he was thinking with this scatter gun recruitment he employed seemingly oblivious to the crucial areas requiring attention. Basically he made a complete bollocks of a season that after the Hull defeat promised so much IMO.

No it isn't. Based on that we have done the same this season. So we sack Adkins? Of course not. I wish people would stop saying it is a "fact" when it is just a stated opinion. Yours is as valid as mine but it is just that, no more no less.
