Didn't go today (thank god) can anyone tell me how we actually did.

Was it as bad as it sounds?

Any players play well?

Any redeeming features?

UTB

It was grim, very grim. Wigan were distinctly average & pretty negative (Sam Morsy effectively played as an extra centre half; they played a dwarf up front on his own), but got gifted a couple of goals & that was that, no way back. We were rigid, very limited, uninspiring, & intent on keeping shape at all costs. But we still conceded twice, incredibly softly. And we never created a chance worthy of the name.

The concept "Bramall Lane as fortress" was buried long ago.

What's worst of all is there's no vision/masterplan/prospect of getting out of this malaise. We're effectively relying on luck.

What a fucking shambles.

Couldn't even be arsed booing at the end. We're fucked.

Bramall Lane is now 'a holiday camp'?

Another game which had players yelling at each other (not positively) at various points. Coutts wouldn't put his foot in a fucking puddle, he was a coward throughout, the only 2 times he made tangble contact with an opponent he managed a yellow card and a penalty.

Billy Sharp spend the last 20 minutes looking like he was going to chin someone.

Every team will think they can get something here now.
We actually looked like the away team for long periods
The atmosphere at the Lane is fucking toxic right now worst I've seen for years

After Coutts recent upturn in form, I was very disappointed with his display. Every time he ran at them with the ball, it was taken away from him. Baxter only midfielder to emerge with any credit and he wasn't sparkling.

For reasons best known to himself, Badkins chose Sammon (who should never pull a United shirt on again) over Done, Adams and the criminal loaning of McNulty.
For me, the main problem is a lack of 'game brain', speed of thought, nous etc. among most of our players. They cannot anticipate the flight of the ball, where opponents are etc. with the result that opponents are always one step ahead of us. After 5 minutes I said to the guy next to me 'Wigan are going to get a penalty.' This was because twice in that opening spell, they'd skipped into our area and we'd launched mindless lunges (thankfully we were too slow to clip them).

We treat the ball like a hot potato, make passes guaranteed to put our own men immediately under pressure etc. Who is doing the coaching? Who is doing the managing?

I'd agree that Wigan weren't very good. They didn't have to be.

Thought Basham was probably the best of the four personally, until he came off and got iced. Coutts has played well recently, but had a bit of a mare today.

Yeah, I thought Basham was decent today, too.

And he even outpaced a defender on the left-wing at one point (& that, genuinely, is something I'd never thought I'd see or say!).

Basham was the best player on the park and then Adkins took him off. wtf?

Straight for the ice when he come off, assuming continuation of the previous injury.

Highlight of the game by far was when Sharp charged over and smashed their player and got booked. You could see it coming a mile away. He'd just been in a scuffle and was clearly wound up. He was never going to do anything else.

I think Jay Mac had a reasonable game, which means he was man of the match. We need some width, Adkins please start with JCR or Flynn next week. Another thing, why are we so bad at throw ins. Both their goals came from us losing possession when we had a throw in. So careless.

Because for some reason, the tactical plan from throw-ins appears to be from the Brian Howard school of marking yourself out of the game.

This means the taker plays a half arsed percentage game and tosses the ball to the opposition.

The only change to this ever, is the Baxter dummy and turn on the ball approach, which is what he's done for every single throw in put towards him since he joined the club, somehow, the opposition has never noticed this.

I wish we would just go for games now rather than sitting back seemingly waiting for them to score. It's pathetic. What have we got to lose...

A 1-1 with Swindon a 0-0 with Blackpool and a lacklustre 0-2 loss today, 2 points out of 9.
Sounds to me like these players have lost their confidence.
They had better find some guts and fight from somewhere as the 5 teams sitting behind all have a game in hand.

We played for a 0-0 draw and we're time wasting right from the off.

We had 2 good chances. One at 0-0 and the other in injury time at the end when the game was already lost.

And yes we were at home believe it or not.

When you used the phrase "the Baxter dummy" I thought at first you were referring to his mobility in comparison to the ones in John Lewis' shop window.

Easy mistake to make I supose.

I didnt think we were that bad in the 1st half albeit a bit worrying that Wigan player in the 1st few mins could go past 4 of our players unchallenged Yeah 2nd half difference was obvious we were too pedestrian in attack & just no understanding between the midfield > attack because l as was shown through baxter frustration scream because he have the ball but no one willing to make a run & that summer will be a big transition window for us but that nothing we dont know as we all knew we need clearout in the summer for while, not as drastic as many going have said probably just the 8 not the 10/15 that I've seen bandied about

But what was just as bad was that I think wigan game were worst conditions ive ever sat thru in my 18 yrs of supporting sheff utd. Strong wind, constant heavy rain & freezing cold. I was frozen stiff before 1st half had even finished the roof doesn't help the roof over family stand is Like an optical illusion supposed to cover us but every time it rains 1st 10 rows get soaked

Did have a sense of dejavu in match earlier. When Wigan scored a pen in front the away end to put them ahead in pouring rain

Coutts worst game in a United shirt

For zimmer frame using old bats like Collins.

Penalty save was very good. I cheered twice today..penalty save and Sharp chopping the twattish Wigan player down. It was such a good game.
