I can't understand how someone with the chance to make a decent living in what is a relatively short but potentially lucrative career can let their opportunity slip in the Mr H seams to have done.
I remember seeing his reaction when he scored (2 I think) away in a cup match (Orient?)
He seemed to genuinely enjoy scoring and gaining the accolades of the fans for doing so but drive, desire, effort all seemed sadly lacking far too often.
What is it with people who allow this to happen?
Maybe they're happy to 'earn' more than the average man for the time it lasts without taking things too seriously, but what a wasted opportunity.
In fact, what an insult to the every day fans who pay to see their team of professionals put in a committed, enthusiastic shift to be served up instead, a lacklustre disinterested performance.
I was no where near good enough to become a pro player, but given the chance, I would, as I did in amateur games give absolutely everything for the cause.
Fair enough I suppose, if you're a Glen Hoddle type who can play with more guile than guts, but when you have limited ability, surely you should try to make up for that with effort?
Oh well, I suppose it takes all sorts.

Yep. He didn't want to be a footballer or the work that went with it but he was good at it and paid well so he always did the bare minimum but could never be arsed to follow diets, put the work into training and was happy to just float along, not be involved and earn his crust.

Sorry Barney, I didn't realise there was already a thread about this.
It's not necessarily Higdon that's the point of this, but how many players in his position, as S5 states, are happy to do the bear minimum in what is, in my opinion, a priviliged position.

We won 2-1 with the 2 Higgo goals mate. Put us through to face Southampton in the last 8 then Spurs in the semis.

He also scored in the second round at Orient when we won 1-0.

Are you taking about the 2 MK Dons goals? I met him twice last season due to us being his shirt sponsor, good guy, family man but lived to far away IMO. You could tell he was gutted about his chessy sending off and a bit pissed off at being dropped after making an impact against Spurs in the cup, just didn't work out for him, I remember being so excited about signing him especially after him debut even though we lost against BC he was half fit but played really well. It went down hill from there though but I'm sure he will go back to Scotland and do ok. Good luck to him nice bloke
