Their best ever streak is 5 games, achieved once, the last of which happened on 04/09/1914. They have never managed 4 in a row (apart from the 4 in a row that went on to become that 5 in a row). Indeed they have only managed 3 in a row one other time (back in 1908).

Thanks for this, though does it change if cup games are factored in? They probably serve to ruin the streak?

No. Our best winning runs against them are 4 matches which we've done four times now: 1919-1927 (1 in the FA Cup), 1933-1938, 1950-1953 and 2024-present

Our longest unbeaten run against them is 10 (8 in the league) 1896-1900, league matches only that's matched by the current run of 8 (2017-present).

Wednesday have won 5 consecutive derbies, between 1912 and 1913 as part of a spell of 11 league matches between 1910 and 1919 without a United win (ignoring the wartime competition). That's the only time they've won more than 3 in a row and even that they've only done once, between 1907 and 1908.

When you put it like that.. why do I feel us fucking up is by far the more likely mechanism for our reconciliation?

Quite - its been 14 years since they beat us - I'd be more than happy if they break the current winless "record" of 21 years (which we hold for the period between 1970 and 1991, 3 matches) without there even being another game...
