Burn signs extra year.
Ball in Fulhams court as they can command a higher fee
Burn promised a highter % of fee Utd pay.
Everyones a winner..
Fulham are willing however to keep Burn on books if there valuation isnt met.

Just like we did with Murphy......

Why do we always leave matters to the last moment?

For sure, a transfer may hinge on other deals being made, but you would think we might occasionally be after a player who really is surplus to requirements elsewhere.

Very frustrating, as we all know we never end up with a completed shopping list.

HH
Quite simply because we aren't bidding for players that clubs are desperate to get off their books. From their point of view they'd probably rather keep him until the summer, unless a deal is too good to pass up.Therefore it's quite logical that they'd wait till the last minute to ensure no other bids are coming in, and be sure it's a deal they want to make.
I'd suggest if we wanted to buy someone they were desperate to get rid of it could be tied up much quicker.

Our purchasing of players always seems such a long, difficult and drawn out procedure when most other clubs get business done in a matter of days and make it look easy.

Maybe because we follow events at United on an hourly/daily basis, get to hear all the rumours etc. whereas we only see transfer movement at other clubs in the papers when it's all tied up - without knowing or caring about the machinations involved?

Gets a good write up - see below:

It is very pleasing to see Jokanovic keep faith in towering defender Dan Burn who has been an ever-present since he took over. Burn has always impressed me since making his debut under Rene Meulensteen and I believed he should have been the first name on the team sheet in recent seasons. With a run of games we are starting to see the best of the Burn. He was man of the match against Hull with his no nonsense approach to defending, Burn cleaned up on numerous times and made a number of important tackles to prevent Abel Hernandez from leading a counter attack.

That sounds a lot more encouraging than one or two views I've read on Fulham message boards, although I know it can be like reading a Coutts,Baxter or Hammond thread on here, and the differing views..maybe he just needed a run of games...I hope that's the case,if or when we sign him.

Just pay the fucking going rate and get your man like everyone else. We can't afford all this dilly dallying, we need him and at least 2 more before we'll even have a chance of promotion. We'll end up with no one.

It's easy to say that when it's not your money! Also getting best value means the budget isn't blown and we can fund other signings.

Every other football club has to do it?

Oh god, keep believing what they tell you if it helps you sleep at night...
I'd have thought people would have learned their lesson about this board by now.

We are Sheffield United.

We don't do things like everyone else.

We like to fuck everything up - good and proper. That's the only thing we're actually really decent at.

We're just figuring out how we're going to do it for the forseeable at the moment.

Patience...

No, we should be bidding for other players. We've got several days left and no games coming up. The ball is in our court.
If he has just signed another contract then I'd question how much he wants to join us. By not signing a new contract he could have theoretically negotiated a higher signing on fee from us.
I'd back burner him and look at other options. If there aren't any that we can do a deal on, then we have to consider meeting their price.
I've heard the bloke running Fulham is a massive prick, which is why they couldn't attract a decent manager; no one wants to work with him, so I'm not confident we can do a deal here.
Of course, the post on BM may just be a load of shite.

Make of this what you will. Post on BM:

"Morning all.

All doesnt seem to be lost with Dan Burn. This from a reliable source. Situation with Dan Burn is nothing but "clever business" on Fulhams part.

The deal is not dead by any means. However, it seems that Dan Burn has signed a contract to earn himself extra cash. It seems that Fulham have signed him up to generate a higher fee, but Mr Burn has been promised a "cut" of the fee for severance of the contract.

So to put it simply:-

Burn signs extra year.
Ball in Fulhams court as they can command a higher fee
Burn promised a highter % of fee Utd pay.
Everyones a winner..
Fulham are willing however to keep Burn on books if there valuation isnt met.

Its a situatiom quite similar to Wilfried Bony and Swansea. Swansea paid millions in signing on fee to Bony to sign a new contract which took out a lower buy out clause.

Believe if you like, but there you go.

I will say this though. If Utd dont get this kid and we've put our eggs in one basket, itll p1ss me off reight."

Only thing I will say on that is, everyone's a winner except us
Given that Fulham can't sign anyone on a contract (even existing players) for more than £600K per year, I wonder how much he had signed on for. And given that Fulham will only be able to spend outwards on what they receive in transfer fees, do you think they really would be willing to give a cut to a player?

If championship Dan Burn's signed a Fulham contract extension (allegedly), & has been an ever-present since Jokanovic has been there, & is reportedly playing well - & we can't get third division Sam Morsy for £200,000 from just down the road - why are we still entertaining the prospect that Danny boy might realistically sign for us?

A total non-starter.

If Morsy is only £200k and he's as good as people say why is he still at Chesterfield?

Amazing isn't it, these ITK's.

A bit of logic and Fulham's generous tendancies suggests said contract extension shan't be cheap. But no, it's going to make little old ambitious Sheffield United forget the poxy 200k Chesterfield are wanting and drive the price up so much so that it covers the contract and a hefty cut of the fee for a Mr. D Burn.

A total non-starter? It's insulting to have even had to utter some of the words above.

Jokanovic is a pretty good gaffer. got Watford up after years of them threatening it.
And ideally I'd love us to do that but we seem dead set on Burn and only Burn so GO AND GET HIM! If he's our target and we're not willing to consider other options, go and get him.

All hail Dan Burn!
If I remember rightly Dean Hammond was going to be our chief puppeteer, pulling all the strings in midfield.
Woolford was going to replace Jamie Murphy and David Edgar was going to rip off strikers heads and spit down their neck. So all my initial faith in Adkin's eye for a player has been tempered ever so slightly.

It's in our history to welcome potential Messiah's.

Brian Howard
Jamie Ward
Leon Britton
Billy (twice)
Beattie - The Return

Think it might be wise for supporters to welcome the new players but not have too much of an expectation, we ain't signing the best in football, we're signing the best (potentially) for Sheffield United.

... or not signing, in the case of Dan Burn.

Until I actually see a player, run out at 3.00 on a Saturday at BDTBL in a United kit, then I'll believe he'll have signed!
All this internet ITK, mischief makers or/and serial attention seekers & ten-bob scouting geniuses.

What confuses me is about this is why a Championship player playing regularly for his club would leave to join a League 1 side. I realise he wants to move North but I'd be surprised if a Championship club doesn't come in for him given how cheap he'll cost.

Which is why they probably will Robbie.

Danny, could you expand on your opening sentence please?
I'm assuming you know for sure, how "every other" club does its business.
I'm here to be enlightened.

We have a history of not getting players, whilst other smaller clubs land their man with seemingly no issue whatsoever. It's clear we're trying to be "too clever" in negotiations and it consistently backfires.

No, not Weird Al, if I'd meant him I'd have said manager. The bloke who runs the club on behalf of the owner, I don't know his specific title and I can't remember his name. He's the CEO or DOF or whatever.

Do I really need to spell it out? Do Wigan struggle to sign the players they need for promotion? Did Wolves? Did Bristol? Did Charlton? Did the Pigs? Did Bournemouth?
