The seasons a write-off and has been since at least October. This was actually one of the better displays for a shit team. It's over this season. But hope springs eternal. Life is good.

I agree. We drew with a decent side today. Yes we probably have the capability to beat them - as we did at their place - but we didn't. So what. The seasons over. Roll on 1st July and a whole host of players I resent clear off.

Agree on it being a write off since October. However, why hasn't the proper clear out started in Jan?

Because there isn't going to be one, the players out of contract on the whole will be retained, just think about it, Collins will get offered a new contract for a kick off, he's been an ever present under Adkins so don't get your hopes up regarding the disaster that is Neil Collins leaving..

I'll concede that automatic is over but given our position the play offs are still on.

Disappointing that we couldn't challenge for automatic yet again. No improvement on Wilson or Clough, As has been said elsewhere Adkins will only keep his job because we sacked those two and didn't get better.

I was among many calling for Clough to be given until Christmas to turn it around. I doubt he'd be still in a job with the same set of results.

Clough is now doing his best to ruin Burtons chances of the autos. Have you forgotten the total mess he left behind. Trying to play without centre halves, falling out with players who were good enough for this crappy league etc etc.
As for this season the current team hasn't a hope in hell of getting promoted. Accept that and let the season finish.
As for next season, that's now the real test which will make or break Adkins. Roll on the summer.

This. We are two points off the play offs with 19 to play, so the season is very much on.

Just think, we might be able to qualify, finally spawn our way to winning the bloody thing and be able to replace the out of contract shite with far better replacements in a higher position. Unlikely? Not really, the other teams aren't much good either.

Writing off the season makes no sense however pissed off we might be.

Maybe it's a bit of reverse psychology - if we as fans accept the season is over as a mid table write off then we'll all be pleasantly surprised if we actually make the play offs and fucking amazed if we get promoted through them!...... rather than the alternative which you suggest which is to keep thinking "well there's still enough points to play for"..... "mathematically we can still do it"....... "oh bollox!"

Yeah it was always a bit of a wild idea to think we would actually trim the squad of the shite... instead we'll trim by flogging any last bit of talent we have. Probably even Long will go now that he's playing well...

I'm as much of a miserable, half empty, despondent bastard as the majority here. But you can't say the season is a write off yet.

We are still in touching distance of the play off spots, and whilst we are inconsistent at best, still keep ticking over with the points.

We have been dire at home for a long time, but managed a draw at Wigan after being three down and somehow won at Colchester. Last month, Adkins was manager of the month after 3 straight victories with clean sheets (losing the very next game at home to Peterborough of course).

Of course nothing good will come from the JTW, but I think this team of plodding journeymen are just good enough to limp into the playoffs.

It wouldn't surprise me if this time, when we least expect or deserve it, we finally make it over the line.

Swindon were/are far from a decent side.

Off course the seasons not over. However the team is not playing well and has not shown any recent signs that it can perform better than yesterday. The fact is that the limit of our ambition is to try and scrape wins against the likes of Swindon and Colchester and as yesterday shows that is unlikely to be sustainable over the next 19 games. The games against Coventry, Wigan and Colchester could and probably should have ended in defeats. That would have put us in 16th place just between Rochdale and Barnsley. It is not as if we have players to come in who are going to transform our form and none seriously thinks that we will bring anyone in January who will make a major difference. Yes we can still get the playoffs but in a few weeks there may be realistically only one place up for grabs with 4 or 5 teams competing for it. I have long ago decided this season will be what it will be. I still have a little hope but absolutely no expectation anymore.

Of course, one of the two chances we made after half time could have gone in and it would have been a good three points.

But still it would have been hardly deserved. Swindon looked very good on the ball but maybe we made them look good. Adkins pre match stuff emphasised how good they are /well they are playing. Really? The result was a nervy, scared of conceding performance from us, not the sort of to excite the crowd or solicit confidence. And their equaliser had been coming for a while. As for the strange subs, Coutts was playing well and Done was knackered. Adkins acknowledged he'd probably made a mistake not bringing Adams on, he'd need to reflect on that decision he said. So overall disappointment again and I reckon Adkins neither got the approach to the game right or the subs. Doesn't make him a bad manager but he's got work to do to convince us all that he's a good one.
I don't expect much in the transfer window, I'd rather not spend money than sign another promised panacea that does not quite work out. I'm fed up of being disappointed with false promises and unfulfilled expectations.
I have given up on this season in that I don't expect we will be in the top 6, maybe I'll be surprised.

Just look at how the teams above us did yesterday.. Apart from Gillinham, the rest of the results were as bad, if not worse, from a fan's perspective, than ours.

Thing is though the board show less and less ambition every year

If it wasnt for the cup.runs ( which i have been very vociferous about getting in the way of promotion)
And player sales we wouldnt see any signings at all

Next year we dont have any income from those so i wouldnt expect any sort of financial outlay other than free's out and free' s in and any saleable assets offloaded off the books at a cut price

Dwindling crowds and a total lack of expectation much like when i started watching us in the eighties

No they won't.

Each to thier own opinions, but the cull of the deadwood, the perma injured, and the useless will be the greatest thing that could happen to the club, it would be the beginning of a great new era, so good for the club team and fans that I don't think it'll happen...

Would you take my point on Collins though??

We drew with a decent side? When? Swindon are 14th in L1 but Adkins still set out to defend against them at home. Abysmal.

Calm down, fecking calm down? Seven feckin years of abject feckin oblivion, journeymen heaven stealing the feckin pennies from my feckin pocket. Bog roll sheiks and Yankee fist bumpers arrive and after five feckin minutes of their arrival telling me to get behind the feckin players of a feckin team/feckin club I've feckin supported for 59 feckin years. Calm feckin down, we are playing just above pub team level against village teams that double up in their spare time as the local Morris dancing team with a huge squad of players who's net market value could be bought out of Wayne feckin Rooneys weekly wage whilst every foreign super rich fecker uses our country and game to wash their feckin money. Calm down, calm the feck down? OK I'm cool

If we're basing it on league positions a mid table team drew with a mid table team.

They had more possesion, more shots, knocked it about well, movement was better so yes they looked a decent side.

But i appreciate theyre Swindon, 14th, we're SUFC with lots of great players who should have won 5-0.

*straw man argument alert*

No one has said we should have won 5-0 or any of that bollocks, simply that 14th place Swindon aren't a decent side.

Which is why they're 14th.

Agreed. In the first half, Swindon were one of the poorest teams - amongst very stiff competition - that we've seen at the Lane this season. NA's 'tactics', lack of ambition, deplorable substitutions etc. effectively handed control of the match to them. They saw their chance and took it. Poor management.

Just look at how the teams above us did yesterday.. Apart from Gillingham, the rest of the results were as bad, if not worse, from a fan's perspective, than ours.

So giving us an ideal opportunity to make up ground we have lost by losing to the likes of Shrewsbury, Bury, Colchester, Crewe etc. Did we take it? Don't make me laugh.

Is that you Nigel? That post is as bonkers as Adkins' post match comments, so could well be.

Why is everyone so convinced this useless board is suddenly going to sanction an entire new team in the summer?

We will probably sign a couple, retain a few dummy's on new contracts and expect the academy kids to step up.

I reckon this is about right.

Adkins has had to try and build a smooth running promotion machine but looked in the garage/scrapyard and found rusty old bangers and lightweight town cars good enough for nipping down the shops.

Agree, sad thing is some poor teams have turned us over this season.

FACT.
