Awful away supporters

A bit of swearing and frustration at going 3 nil down at a football match? Fancy that.

As was mentioned your seating details plan is void in it's method, so you're just going have to accept it. If you don't like it that much, there's nothing forcing you to attend.

It's always been like that as far as I can remember. The team takes a right slagging if we're losing or it looks like we're not trying. But normally the away fans are among the best in the land when we're leading.

And when the team are performing to the "best of their ability" whether leading or not !!

The current squad thoroughly deserve a bloody good bollocking on a regular basis for their "Jekyll & Hyde " performances ......

UTB & FTP

I sat in front of a bloke at the Bradford game who was trying to blame Connor Sammon for everything from the holocaust to the rise of Isis. He soon disappeared up his own arse when the big galute scored.

I go to quite a few away matches and last night went to Wigan with a mate who's a Wigan fan, his niece and my wife. Me and the missis sat with the Blades in front of another couple. It started after a few minutes when the first goal went in, a bitter and incessant barking of bile and invective targeted at, the ref (maybe he deserved it) plus, Adkins, Sharp, Baxter, Hammond from some supporters around us. The couple behind us went somewhere else.
I laughed at one of the mindless comments and one orc, eyes bulging started spattering at me. 'So this is f***g ok is it you c***........... there was no reasoning with him and then his mates started, you all get the picture by now?. My wife went to stand somewhere else, they scored a second, it was half time.

We went to stand somewhere else and it started again with some other 90 decibel obscene ranting and raving from a different set of contorted faces. Then 3-0, more venom.

Now those first 60 minutes of football were poor, we are all disappointed and some angry. I'm no prude, no angel, my Sheffield steelworks English is as as good/bad as anyone. But I was ashamed to be associated with these morons whose behaviour I'm sure is putting ordinary fans off. It was bad enough at Oldham and Walsall but last night was awful.

I don't know any other walk of life where such behaviour is tolerated, so why should mindless, pissed (presumably) nehanderthals get way with it at football matches? I feel really sorry for them, some of them my age (late 50s) whose idea of a good day out is to lose control of their anger and act like spoilt brats when we lose the ball or don't win. It not passion, its pathetic. Its certainly not helping. Its not support.

I don't think my wife will go away again this season, it wont stop me, but in future, where possible I'll be passing on seat details to the club, I don't want to put up with it.

O yes, great comeback, we won a point. Why the f**** didn't Adkins do something sooner, were f*****g shit was the final comment as we went out.

Happy Days. I'm just glad I didn't take my Aussie nieces.
Absolutely agree mate. Much of the time I think you can spot them when you get to your seat so I tend to try to find somewhere else to sit but that's not always possible. Don't get me wrong, I have been known to get wound up with the best of them but it does appear at the moment we appear, for some reason, to have a larger number of people than normal who seem to be waiting for it to go wrong so that they can vent their anger elsewhere. Maybe they used to to this in fights which they now can't have, but I've got to say I find it embarrassing.

If ever SUFC become successful in the future and started winning things. I think there'll still be a few Blades out there who'll resent the fact they won't have anyone to grumble at or vent their spleen on a Saturday afternoon.

When I got too old to get rid of my frustration through fighting, I found more sex helped :D

Everything considered, anger with United is understandable. Away fans get angry because they care. Some of them will vent that anger. You need to accept it and get on with it.

Pretty sure the club don't keep a record of any individual's away seat. Even if they did, most probably don't even end up in their allocated seat anyway. So unlucky on that one. What would you expect the club to do anyway, ban them? On what grounds?

This thread just needs a 'won't somebody please think of the children' job now.

As per mattbianco in post 60, what reasonable objection could you have to thinking about the kids ?

And not just because I miss mattbianco's avatar.

I think of the children whenever I'm on the kop.

I think "thank fuck there are none of those screaming, attention-seeking little brats sat near me"

It's unreasonable to expect the presence of a few kids to completely dictate fans' behaviour at away games. At the end of the day it's the parent's choice to take them, only the very ignorant wouldn't be aware of the 'dangers'. The effect hearing those awful swear words has on kids is exaggerated anyway. The way some people go on you'd think it ruins their upbringing completely and turns them into scum.

I knew all the swear words before I was eight and so did all the kids I knew. We didn't always know what they meant but we knew they were not to be said in the presence of adults.
Swearing at football isn't new and it's going to happen.
Personally I think some of it is over the top and unnecessary but it's not going to stop.

What about away games? They don't have designated family sections for away supporters, you're all just lumped together.

I have taken my little girl (5yrs) to just the one away game. that was MK Dons last season. One of the reasons for this is due to the size of the away end. I knew I could easily sit out of the way on some empty seats.

I wouldn't dream of taking her to most away games due to the horrible minority of fans that we have.

Do any clubs anywhere make this provision?

It's the kind of suggestion worth making to Jim I reckon. If we can point to a successful precedent all the better.

Suggestion: STs for the Family Stand at the Lane give you the option of buying tickets for the Family Stand at an away game.

(I think you'd have to sit in those specific seats to make it workable eg if you sell the ticket on and someone was abusive and or violent then the stewards make a note of the seat, match it to your ST and take it from there.)

Think I recognise some of those Knobheads, banging on my car roof, singing 'we are Blades' in the pouring rain, as I tried to drive away from Old Trafford.

There was over 100,000 loyalty points in that car, where were you lot at Wigan??? (and every other away game)

What a ridiculous post. Swearing will always be present at football games, it's part and parcel of society, I get that, most people do. At home games, if you don't want to hear such language you're advised to sit on the family stand. To do this you must take a child and the swearing is still present but not quite as bad.

Gillingham away this season - "Fuck off Long you Cunt, I hope you die"
Burton away - some similar bile was shouted as we drew 0-0 with the then league leaders.
I remember Anfield in 2003 a full on fight broke out in the seats behind me with blood and everything.
Wembley vs. Hull - infighting again.
Man Utd on Saturday - Bloke in front was booting the seat off it's bolts so he could throw it at the Man Utd fans.

I'm sorry Barney. Frustration at being 3-0 down is one thing but some of the stuff you hear and see, especially at away games is an embarrassment to the club.

So had I taken my little girl to Wigan and a guy shouts at another guy "So this is fucking ok is it you cunt", please advise me what the best course of action is??? I have asked people not to swear infront of my kids before and been greeted with "shut the fuck up, what are you going to do about it?"

No 5yr old should have to listen to that.
It's not like the crowd are suddenly going to pause and enter into a mutual "shhhhh! mattbianco1 on S24SU says we shouldn't swear at football matches"

Of course kids shouldn't have to listen to bad language, but there's really not a lot you can do unfortunately. You either take that risk or you don't go, they're your options. If you knowingly take that risk though I don't think you have any grounds to moan about it when it happens.
