I agree about lack of pace but not lack of ability.

The main thing I'm referring to with lack of ability is his inability to do anything beyond the most simple option, even when there's plenty of space to turn and go forwards. His first thought is to turn back or go sideways. He slows us down too often.

That's Baxters job

That's something you've noticed more than me so I'll watch for it next time.

But those experienced players should always be influential and ideally not on massive wages. Character's more important than experience anyway. Experience should be one of the last things we look for when recruiting in this division. Brentford and Bournemouth went up with young sides and look at them now. Look at Walsall and Gillingham now. Experience is a good thing to have but it doesn't compensate for athleticism and ability, especially in this division. You'll get occasions when there's an older player who'll offer more than any younger alternative, then it's worth maybe paying out above average wages for a year or two. We thought Hammond would be one of these, but obviously we're Sheffield United so that was never going to be the case.
Cowans – we're Sheffield United and it clearly was the case.

More loan for Hammond - meh. Probably be an end to midfield recruitment but he's better than the tiny twins I suppose

Permanent signing of Hammond in the summer (or now) - that would show we've learnt nothing from our mistakes

I'm alright with Hammond,I think he puts in a right shift and does a good screening job in front of the back 4...and a midfield of Coutts,Bash,Hammond and Woolford without the ball is decent, but with the ball...no where near good enough for me..to reliant on Coutts, who is pushed it on the right for any creativity..almost no goal threat from the entire 4..poor ball retention(apart from Coutts)...Adkins has gone for Hammond as his main man,so for me,needs someone else instead of Bash alongside..someone with the same mobility and defensive ability, but with a footballing brain ,and also the ability to run with the ball, pick a pass, and carry a goal threat...then we need similar to that on the left instead of Woolford, and pace to get in behind.

He was brilliant against Man Utd, and the tackle was unlucky as 9/10 players we'll play against won't have the guile to not cross the ball there.

Similar to Coutts in he's got to return to sharpness, and match fitness at not a particularly young age, excited to have them both fit and ready.

I see Hammond as potentially filling a similar role as Gary Speed did - i.e play for a season or two and then become part of the coaching set up.

I'm sure that would be attractive to him with our facilities and obviously the presence of Adkins.

Not had a player like him since Stuart McCall. He let's the ball flow through the middle of the park. Just wish he was little bit better off the ball.

That would be really intelligent of the board to allow that.

Look at every over 30 we've signed in this division - all turned out garbage and performed well below expectations.

What about Barry Robson, he was really g......oh wait a minute. He was shite.
What about Paddy McCarthy, now he was just what we nee.....oh wait a minute. He was a part time useless twat as well.

I fully expect to be adding Hammond to this last in about 2 years time.

We're paying Hammond 16K a week.

Even for our owners that would be financial stupidity, KM mentioned wages paid to players were not in line with being a 3rd tier club at the AGM so paying that amount doesn't fit. But I have stopped being surprised at some of the decisions our present guardians make.

Deal done according to Giddings -

"confirm that Dean Hammond's loan from #lcfc has been extended until the end of the season, after ratification from the Premier League".

17.5k a week? I doubt that. Doubt even the beard is on that kind of money.

Totally agree mate, this is how I see it panning out too. Unless of course NA gets the bullet anytime soon.
