Who still thinks we can go up?

Well if we can keep it out one end and stick it in the other, move forward united together, continue to be resilient with a great set of lads whilst playing saturday, tuesday, saturday, tuesday, and keep just trying to win a game of football then we have every chance.
You missed out a nice and reliable "likewise"...

You forgot to say they were honest professionals!

Aren't you driving back from Wigan Barney? Shouldn't use your phone when driving....

There have been some optimistic posts suggesting that previously also rans like Walsall will fall away. Forget what has happened before. Unfortunately teams we see as cannon fodder have their acts together I think it most unlikely that teams so far ahead of us will drop off the pace, the best we can hope for is sixth place

It's mid January it's quite obvious Nigel Adkins still doesn't know his best 11 or the way he want his team to play. The team seem to be playing with shackles on. Either the players don't seem to understand what NA wants them to do or they simply don't want to play for him. Surely Adkins can see this and as we meander on to the end of the transfer window every lost point is driving a nail into our promotion coffin. While NA still deludes himself that we are somehow going to march up the table in a blaze of glory he is seriously neglecting his duty to strengthen the team.

Of course we can go up. But I don't think we will.

It's possible, but it won't happen.

The current board regime will screw it up somehow, as they always do. We need a better defence, and I don't think they'll pay for one.

I don't think we will go up there's too many things wrong with the club at the minute.

I would love to be proven wrong though.

Anyone else not writing off automatic? 13 points is the gap to 2nd but we have a game in hand on Gillingham, though no game in hand on Walsall, who are 12 points above us in 3rd. So could we make up 12 points over the next 21 games? Of course we could - but we need to start winning games and stop shipping goals.

Games over the next two months - Colchester, Swindon, Blackpool, Bury, Wigan (h) Donny, Port Vale and Rochdale. These eight games need to yield at least five wins, if not six, if we are to stand any chance of autos. It's still doubtful and depends on other teams slumping, but as people have said, no one team is setting the division on fire.

If you're the optimistic type we're only 7points off 2nd. just need win our game in hand and beat gillingham at the lane

To quote a thread on here. "It ain't over till the fat lady sings" Well to expand analogy with regard to our promotion propects.
The fat lady keeps getting up to clear her throat, then sits down again.

We'll finish 5th or 6th. The doom and gloom from some folk here is unwarranted. I don't think we're far off a squad that can actually win this league, (horse has bolted for this season, but the quality's there) and it's weaker than last season so we should be right up there. It will have to be play-offs tho, automatic is in reach but it requires not only a steep upturn in form from us, and more importantly a sheer drop in form from at least 3 other sides. Let's finish 5th, plsy Wigan over 2 legs, there'd be about 20 bloody goals

We can do, but I will still have no confidence in the playoffs, we need to go on a juggernaut of a winning streak and get into the top 2.

Thing is, all the other teams have to cock up monumentally and lose form. As it stands, I can't ever see that happening. We could win five, but if everyone else wins five, we stay still.

Too many duff performances last year at home have once again shat in our chip bag with regard promotioin. The best we can hope for is a Wolves 2003 version of 'slip into the playoffs as the non-favourites and then coast through' scenario but with our ever present propensity to fail on the big day, who'd back us to triumph 3-0 in the final?

Automatic is gone, and let's not under-estimate just how tough it will be to get in the playoffs from here. It is highly likely that the teams who are in the top 5 now will finish in the top 6. They have a significant gap over us, in 7th. That means everyone in the following pack is fighting for that final playoff position. And what a pack. Every team from 6th to 14th has a good shout - the last of those, Bury, are 4 points behind us with a game in hand. Out of those 9 teams, at least one or two will have a really good run in. Nobody is going to get that last playoff position by doing "OK" in the last 20 or so games.

Just to get into the playoffs, our results from here on in need to be far more consistent than they have been so far. On the plus side, if we do it, we'll be entering the playoffs on the back of a good run of results, which can make all the difference.

Even after lat night's first sixty minutes?

We shipped three avoidable goals. That aint 'quality' to me.

Yes we can do. Automatic is the target but a very difficult target at that so the emphasis is not losing touch with the play off spots. This is the key for this season now. As we are well versed in everything play-off you could say we know it only too well. So now is the chance to settle a few scores in that department and show the rest of this league that we really want out.

After last nights superb fightback I think we can well and truly say that we know we can battle like a league 1 side when we need to. Give me automatic 2nd spot any day of the week but looking at our season thus far suggests its going to be the lottery again. If so, lets hope we get the result we want and get that hoodoo exorcised once and for all.

was right last season said wed make the play offs , never said wed go up , only we had a 1 in 4 chance
this year is the one
we need to win 13 of 21 games to ensure a play off berth
should do that ´

Should we? Why?

Me - said it for the last few seasons promotion from this league is decided from January onwards. So long as you're in touching distance in January you're in with a decent shout.
Good call 7th in div and not playing to our potential a few tweaks and who knows
