I know it's elsewhere but it's also here now.
  • one or two knocks - McEveley pelvis and Sharp pain killing injection in foot, as already mentioned - may be others, didn't say
  • need to make a call on fitnesses [my word, not a new footballerism] for Satdi too
  • (related) used GPS data to monitor distances covered and high intensity runs with a view to managing recovery - this is SOP but hardly ever gets mentioned as I suspect journos don't understand it
  • also related Young and Schneiderlin - left out of Man Utd bc they'd been in the Red Zone - this whole section is really worth listening to and gives some insight into current practice and developments. If in the red means the same as it does in cycling then it's to be avoided as performance can plummet at that point, and I imagine there's increased susceptibility to injury
  • over the years data suggests bigger players suffer more in terms of recovery and injuries, this also needs to be factored in - maybe this all science deserves a thread of its own
  • like to think everyone will be up for it though
  • consistency and settled and robust side get a mention
  • recruitment: lots of communication behind the scenes
  • some players haven't been playing - seems pretty clear that he hopes they'll look for first team football elsewhere
  • Q: Specific mention of the wish for two players last week - any progress? A: Most business is done in the last couple of days as teams need to make sure they've got cover for players leaving etc - basically it's like buying a house and being in a chain
  • we are being active
  • same token don't want to be too disruptive
  • Dan Burn is now in Fulham's first team
  • bigs up the back five
  • Q: Are teams looking at our players? A: No-one will be leaving today.
  • Q: Is anyone sticking to their guns and trying to get back in the first team [decent question!] A: Who wouldn't want to be part of Sheffield United Football Club [great answer :)]
  • DCL [stumbles over the name :)] looked top drawer in training, clubs are looking to loan him
  • Wallace needs to play and have confidence in his body - the issue of confidence in his body has come up numerous times with Wallace it I wonder if it may be psychological as much as anything
  • Flo has trained well, ability, athleticism, may feature as a loan, on the bench, or in the first team - not giving much away but again much more positive about Flo than Wallace
  • good spirit about the team
  • now is the time to kick on - hope so
  • great atmosphere Satdi - mentioned in several tweets
  • appreciate the following and the players have to put the effort in to match the commitment from the fans
  • Wigan are a big side and have some pace
  • they've changed formations and personnel
  • we are in the race need to strive for consistency
  • got experience, can be resolute, camaraderie, lots of positives to be taken forward into the second half of the season
More substantial than recent weeks - it's 13:13, and there are parts I've missed out - and I reckon worth a listen if you can.

Cliche ridden and substance free, as usual.

I hated Clough as much as the next man but at least he had a direct way about his approach. Adkins walks up and down the seven hills before even looking like giving an answer of a bit of substance. It's painful.

Unless they're going to start asking things he won't be able to throw cliches at, they really ought to knock these interviews on the head. Direct answers or no interview, save everyone wasting their time.

Sigh.

Up the Blades.

The things I take from these interviews often revolves around what isn't said - but then that subtlety would almost certainly be lost on you. A good example is the difference in response to the same question about Wallace and Cuvelier: his wording is positive on both but it's the delivery which tells me that Cuvelier is going to play a part from now until May...while Wallace isn't.

Thought it was a good interview. More serious and less Blackwell-esque than previous ones (ironic as the football is arguably getting much more like Blackwell's).

Starting to feel a little more positive about the future. Don't think the performance at OT is particularly relevant in the league as we'll never need to be so defensively minded but the fact we're capable of putting a plan together (albeit a basic one) and carry it out in a really disciplined manner is encouraging.

Think finishing 6th will be a big ask but we've got a chance and I wouldn't have said that a month or so ago.

Why not try not to listening to said interviews or reading WHF's summaries, that way you wouldn't have to keep wasting your time making the same points over and over again?

Let me be the next man

I didn't (and still don't) hate Clough

He brought me some of the best cup memories I have had as a Blade
The fact that he was unable to sort out the 3rd Division is a big disappointment for me and the one up front allus pisses me off but I don't hate the feller.
In fact I quite like him, still.

The next man being Adkins.

You are a serial hater of everything Sheffield United Barney. I really do wonder why you continue this charade of being a 'supporter' as clearly that is the last thing you appear to be. Nothing personal Barney just saying how you come across.

There's a distinct difference between hating everything and showing frustration at a succession of managers getting it wrong.

But you don't just 'show frustration' do you? You simply can't wait to rubbish Adkins, regardless of what he might say.

You are Brian-the-Blade's bastard offspring and I claim my £5.

(BTW, did anyone hear aforesaid dickhead on RS last night? The only man who can say 'for the sole reason' and drone on with multiple 'failings').

Which is interesting in itself. Wonder why? I wonder what Flo has shown that JWall hasn't. Maybe Adkins thinks Wallace isn't trying to get over his injuries properly (not sure how; not training hard enough? Drinking too much?) or is just a bit nesh.

Nigel Clough, Adkins and Chris Wilder have all talked positively of Dom Calvert-Lewin. I'd want to see him in the first team over Conor Sammon. Clough noted he is great in the air too.

Thanks for taking the time & effort to summarise it for us.

I can honestly say I don’t hate Clough either so no idea who the “next man” is that Barney refers to. I can only imagine it must be Ricky as he’s the only one I believe that has a real hatred of Clough.

I had mixed feelings about him. Gratitude for putting some pride back in the shirt with that run in spring 2014. Frustration for failing to follow up on his stated plan of a small but quality squad. A little resentment for the fact I felt lied to about the Collins situation. Some sympathy for the fact that players didn’t consistently replicate effort levels he knew they were capable of. Bemusement for certain decisions he made. Respect for the way he handled certain situations and cleared the decks of the bad apples (Brandy, King, Taylor etc.) to name but a few.

Still no mention of a central defender so we don't have to keep scoring three fucking goals to get a point.

Well done Coco
