Marc McNulty has extended his loan and is staying at Portsmouth till the end of the season. Not sure this was the best thing to do agreed ed we need to get rid of some of the dead wood on the books but is this the right thing to do?

McNulty has scored 6 goals in 11 games for them and has helped them to be in the position there in now. Surely with done out injured McNulty is a better option that sammon and would offer more of an attacking threat.

Agreed they must be some kid on problem with the Lad as the last 2 managers have not given him a chance, I have heard he has bad attitude but surely he can't be as bad as some one else we have in the team for getting into trouble (baxter).

I would have liked to have seen him been recalled and given a proper run in the team to see what he could do. He can't do any worse than sammon and actually think he could push to be a first team regular given half the chance. And would also be good covered for done if we was going to play done and sharp up front like we seem to have been doing when done is fit. With done struggling to retain fitness at the minute we actually don't have any other striking options apart from sammon who is clearly not good enough. Surely we need another striker and feel like McNulty has never got the proper chance to show us what he can do.

Fear this could be the last we see of the Lad as Portsmouth are pushing for promotion and if they get promotion I think he will sign for them on a permanent basis. What is everyone else thoughts?

Its appears from this news that he has burnt his bridges with us. He's failed to impress two managers now, so something isn't right.

Why not give DCL a chance? His record at Northampton is almost as good and he's 5 years younger. The club and many supporters keep banging on about reducing the squad and giving the academy players a chance. Why not now?

I like many others, wanted McNulty back but Adkins doesn't seem to fancy him, which is a real shame for me. Definitely a handful at this level and I think he'll bag another 10 goals or so for Pompey this season, and also we could do without them joining us next season if, as looks possible, we stay in this league again and they come up. Minor point the last one, but surely McNulty offers more than Sammon, who is only playing because he offers something different to Sharp. I just hope Sammon decides he wants a starting place elsewhere and asks for the loan to be ended and then he can join someone like Notts County on loan. Sammon's really annoying because he has done it at times this season, but then so often looks crap.

Agree completely.

Here is a bloke who moved for £600k to Wigan than £1m to Derby. He couldn't have been playing that badly at the time, even allowing for the fact it was NC that signed him for Derby.

So what has happened?

Is he such a 'confidence player' that he has completely lost the ability to play. I know the saying 'form is temporary; class is permanent', but even so, he must have being something right for a while to have £1.6m spent on him by two different managers.

I'd love to think he will knock a couple in and come good, but sadly life isn't really like that. Even the Sammon we saw against Chessie would be a massive improvement on the recent lump who strolls round, waiting to mistime his jumps and fall over in the six yard box.

"Feed the fish and he will miss, feed the ........."

To be honest blades78, Dom is doing okay but isn't a starting regular at the moment and I think a recall now would set him back. I've great hopes for this lad, but leave him at Northampton at the moment, great experience for him in a team fighting for promotion. Full season there for me.

Unfortunately McNulty has come up against 2 strict disciplinarians in NC and NA. I think Warnock would loved the kid

I'd have had McNulty back as he'd probably offer more than any of the other strikers currently at the Lane. Sharp's been hit and miss, Sammon generally awful or not in the team, Done injured or nowhere near last season's form, Adams has at times been worse than Sammon.

Don't quite go along with the line that McNulty has an attitude problem just because Adkins and Clough haven't picked him regularly. Clough fell out with quite a few last season, perhaps it was Clough with the attitude problem rather than the players. Adkins might simply not fancy him as a striker. Cook must rate him at Pompey and no doubt the manager at Livingston must have as well. Even if he has got an attitude problem, so fucking what, we could do with one or two more players in the squad with an attitude (on the pitch at least), we might start getting somewhere. Clough set the team up with a lot of nice lads which has carried over to this season and the problem hasn't really been addressed by Adkins.

If Adkins has dispensed with McNulty for this season, then I hope for our sake he's got a striker lined up for January.

I'd have had McNumpty back happily. But, more important, I'm happy to trust Adkins on this.

He's already made a big statement now that he's willing to be decisive in following the board's bidding to trim the squad. He needs & deserves to be financially backed by the board this window, not constrained by McCabe's (apparent) latest panicky austerity programme.

It's so easy to see where this is going....McNuts leads a Pompey revival and makes the transfer permanent. Next year a buoyant Championship-bound Portsmouth meets our plodding old pros and tears them a new one while McCabe and co waffle on about budget trimming. Same old.

For Adkins sake too. If the McNulty thing backfires the player may find himself back at the lane with another new manager at the helm.

Our recent way of playing seems dependant on players working hard as a team and competing physically and it has seen some improvement. McNulty doesn't seem to fit that criteria. I also think he's too similar to Sharp to be complimentary as we saw against Bradford away. That being said, based on his age and ability, he seems a good back up to Sharp but there's been plenty to suggest all is not well

Getting his face smashed in on a night out
2 managers not fancying him
mates being dicks on Twitter
Stories of lollipops and jumpers
Rumours he drinks too much

I'm happy to trust Adkins if he thinks the negatives of having him around outweigh the positives.

I have high hopes for DCL but Northampton fans indicate whilst promising, he is also lightweight and needs a more physical forward alongside him. For that reason, I'm not sure he'll compliment Billy either yet but I'm happy having him as an option on the bench

This from a Northampton foumr regarding a DCL;

He has a very good touch and seemed composed on the ball.

The only thing that annoyed me was that he never seems to chase down when we are sitting on a one goal lead. Almost as if he is giving the defenders/Goalie too much respect. Should be rushing them into decisions at this level.

The haters of Sammon will at least have a back up.

It's a strange one, you'd have to think he must be in NAs plans as he'd benefit far more by remaining out on loan than warming the bench / playing for the reserves every other fortnight. Maybe the plan is to have a closer look at him over January then maybe let him go elsewhere at the end of the month if he's not ready.

Makes sense.

I think the 'Bully Sharp' tweet by his mate indicates he doesn't get on with Sharp. Billy's one of the senior players and a far better player so if McNulty's turned it into a 'him or me' situation there's only going to be one outcome.
