Dead on Unitedite the formative years for technical ability is between 8 and 18 after that it's all about harnessing that ability to experience and mental strength .That's not to say players can t improve there technic beyond that age but if you havn't got good technic by 18 you never will. You could say late developers contradict all that but it is usually down to maturity both physical and mentally (they are not always in tune) ,could name plenty over the years!!.
Yes exactly they can always improve at all parts of their game but I can't see united giving a player a youth team contract if they need to improve technically x

Do you agree with his clearly expressed managerial philosophy?

Old Nowt-Fancy will be very lucky to get a job, never mind have a decent career. Football is better off without Bassett-inspired numpties, thank you very much

Let's remember that only one manager has ever appointed him as a coach, and then for reasons of economy, not merit. Perhaps Chesterfield are hard up?

I can't recall what Morgan has said about his managerial philosophy except that he wanted to be his own manager and not copy manager's he's played for.

I don't care for the term "Bassett-inspired numpties" though. I read an interview with Brian Deane recently about the win against Forest in December to get us going in the Prem and the run we went on. He attributed in no small part to Bassett being one of the most forward-thinking managers of the time by use of nutritionists, psychologists etc. to get that extra 10% out of his players. I don't necessarily want us to play as direct as we did at times under Bassett (although at times, it was much more attractive than people suggest- In the Deane and Agana days, not the Jostein Flo days) but I don't feel the need to denigrate our most successful manager of the last 40 years either.

What you have to remember is that Pinchy doesn't know much about the Bassett years as he and his Dad stayed away from the Lane during those years.

Obviously losing 5-0 at home to Oldham was more aesthetically pleasing to them.

Come on you cant just leave it like that. Tell me why. It worked for Dalglish at Liverpool twice, garry monk at Swansea & pep guardiola at barca who came from player straight to manager

This guy was a brilliant leader & over the 12 yrs always been there when youve need him. Never shirked responsibility & team would never lack fight

You two should get together for an exchange of barely literate, Bladey drivel.

Nowt Fancy - Like Bassett.

so youve got nothing, it was a bluff & quote to make you look good with no substance

but anyway on brian deane, ive said on another thread that i was slightly disappointed with adkins appointment because id hoped brian deane would get a shot after doing such a great job in norway taking a team that has a avg attendance of 3,600 (similar crowd to a Hartlepool or rochdale) & keeping them in the top division for 1st time in there history then in his 2nd season taking to 8th + a norwegian fa cup semi final

When I left a job after 15 years there was no bickering about ooof and tippy tappy. Just a got a pen and a good luck card. Not 12,000 attending a testimonial either. 12,000 who I had sacked may have turned up to see me off though :)

I really don't need to say anything. You just keep on giving....

But you were OK with the vicious and obscene abuse directed at Nigel Clough, including wishing him dead?...

It's one rule for one and another for the Bladey Blade favourites. That sort of hypocrisy cuts no ice with me, mate. I'll say what I think about Dinosaur Dave and Muckanettles Nowt-Fancy. I don't want either near our club ever again.

No Pinchy I wasn't at all OK with that and pointed out the unreasonableness of one particular blades mad poster for referring to him as an utter cunt. I see no need for that sort of personal abuse. However, Clough did certain things that annoyed me (like lying to us about the Collins situation and his "injury") but I'd rather focus on the specific act and the rights and wrongs of it rather than make sweeping derogatory comments about the individual.

You are of course entitled to your opinion about Bassett. I wouldn't want either managing our club at the moment and am far happier with Adkins in charge but that doesn't mean I can't respect the qualities that each brought to the club. And it's not all about bladey bladeness. Morgan captained us to the Premier League and Bassett gave us the best years in my lifetime so I'd say both command plenty of respect on merit.

Have you dug out any articles on other Norwegian coaches?...

Anyone can talk a good game. In Norway they hoof it.
Listen. Some say I'm monotonous in my approach but now I know just how they feel. I wouldn't like to think I've gone to such extremities as you have in these last few days though, what to have posted around 20 posts arguing for the very same thing. Your consistent bashing of our fans is neither wanted, justified or in the slightest bit reasonable either. Get off your high horse and stop talking as though your superior to everyone else.

With the amount of money we were getting to spend in the late 80s/early 90s, there was only someone like Dave Bassett who could have got us to the Div 1/Premier League on that budget. I for one am grateful for what he achieved with us, those Deane & Agana times were amongst the best in my memory.

But, in many ways, I am. In particular I am the most intelligent, literate, articulate and elegant writer to contribute to this or any other football forum. I have a brain the size of the universe and a vocabulary to match. I have an unparalleled command of irony, satire and rhetoric. I have more letters after my name than you have in yours. I can quote Shakespeare, Dickens, Carroll, Milton, Keats, Blake, Wilde et al accurately and at the drop of a hat, or in Carroll's case, a cat [that's a little intellectual witticism]

I have watched and played football for over 50 years. I read Camus and Galeano whilst you flick through The Sun. I have watched in awestruck wonder, the magnificence of Pele, Beckenbauer and Platini. I have basked in the genius of Cruyff, Best and Eusebio. Meantime you worship at the feet of Muckanettles Nowt-Fancy and Nick fucking Montgomery.

I exalt Shankly, Paisley, Clough, Nicholson, Ferguson, Wenger and Ramsey. You see no further than Dinosaur Dave and 'Ol Big Nose.

"Superior" doesn't really do the matter justice mate. It's infinitely more than that. You are in the presence of an exceptional human being. If you had any sense you would stop, listen and learn from me. But you haven't; so you won't.

Sorry, but you did rather lead with your chin....

You're still a cunt though Pinchy to be fair.

Bet you,ve got fuckin big doors in your house !

Good, I'm glad he's gone. His period of a coach has coincided with us being dreadful under several managers. Also the most pathetically weak side we've ever had.

Good luck to him but I'll not miss him. Part of the problem.

You are accused of heresy on three counts. Heresy by thought, heresy by word, heresy by deed, and heresy by action. Four counts. Do you confess?

I plead guilty to looking at the facts and Morgan, Kev and Collins are the consistent factors in our dire period. Apparently Morgan can do no wrong because he's Chris Morgan. He's clearly done an absolutely brilliant job of putting steel in our team or bringing defenders through.

defence - shitter
leadership - non-existent
Discipline - snowballed
performance - worse
U21s - gone backwards

It could be coincidence but I'd rather he went somewhere else.

One thing is for absolute certain. If you had any of the qualities you claim to possess, there wouldn't be a single mention of any of them. It would be humble silence. You'd like to be all those things, hence the mention of them, but are you actually? Definitely not.

In fact I am possessed of all those qualities and more. I have been on this forum for many years, far more than you. I have always maintained a modest persona with plenty of self-parody. Those who actually know me will readily confirm that. On this occasion, however, you rather led with your chin, old chap, so I gave you what you asked for.

As a matter of interest, which of my claims do you doubt? I'd like to get this over with and get back to being the modest, sometimes amusing, sometimes provocative, parody of myself that I, and hopefully one or two others, enjoy.

I don't believe you have any of your claims are true. From experience, I also believe we wouldn't be having this conversation if they were, they wouldn't have been mentioned. You might refer to your actions as amusing, provocative, or more strangely, a "parody of yourself". Do be warned though, others might percieve it as a twat making desperate attempts to create a character with attributes, not what he has, but what he wants to have.

Good luck to Chris, great servant to the club.

I wish he was still playing our defence.

I've placed you now Pinchy ;)

I know you speak in jest here Pinchy (sort of), but on a serious note, one thing I've noticed is almost perfect correlation between the number of letters people put after their name, and the size of the cock end that they are.

Now I've grown to love you, in an internet forum kind of way, so let's make less of letters after our names, please. :)

Much better he goes like this, than the inevitable. Of him becoming our manager then getting sacked shortly after, and us all saying 'yeah, that Chris Morgan, good player but a S**t manager'.

Okay. I shall never mention my coveted Certificate in Underwater Newt Tickling again....
