Whether my travels with United take me to Dagenham or the Bernabeu (I wish), I'm there to support my team alone, and I'd prefer not to have the oppositions colours around my neck in the process.

I have some of these half & half scarfs got them when taking the Dublin blade junior, to some Ireland games.
Germany , Holland , Argentina, even one from the European final held at the Avavia stadium, it was a memory thing , if he was to dig out the Argie scarf , he could say remember when we saw messi play dad.
I would be termed a clapper, but think this is one money grab to far.
Football is a business and our club needs to be run on. " professional " basis , but come on lads leave the rip offs to the pigs .

Everything Reading have done as a club over the past few years has been intensely embarrassing, they sum up modern football at its worst.

However, I was proud to see United selling Sheffield FC merchandise in the club shop a few years back as they occupy a very special place in the history of football and this city, and as a strictly amateur club they deserve all the recognition they can get.

But Chelsea shirts at Reading? Jesus wept.

There's a core support who the club means a lot too, but realistically there are a fair few for who it's a day out.

If we ever make it to Division 1 and get crowds of 30000+ they'll be the ones filling the seats that are currently empty.

I don't want to buy the scarf otoh I don't really want to stop anyone else buying one if that's what floats their boat.

This 3rd round tie against the mancs is a big deal and we will be close to selling out. If the tickets were priced more cheaply then we would sell the lot. This in itself proves want fans think of this game.
We will see how many tickets reach general sale - that's when 'some' glory hunters can jump on board.

The glory hunters are waiting I have already been asked if I can get tickets for people from Chesterfield who wouldn't normally be seen at the lane .................. even for a Chesterfield game

I've a few European scarves from matches, usually bought cause its feckin cold. The Werder Bremen tank commander hat with furry ear coverings is an absolute winner. Never bought a blue one though...

Let's face it, BDTBL is a bit of a throwback to the footballing yesteryear (in a good way!). City centre location, rough and ready crowd, lots of old school boozers around the ground.

Remember a few Spurs fans expressing delight at what it is like at the Cup game. Modern football can keep its half and half scarves, I'm quite content sat there chuckling at the (very) elderly ladies on the Kop calling out the referee for being a "shithouse", dodging the herbal cigarette smoke on the concourse and hoping I never need to use the Kop bogs for a number 2.

I can't argue with a club flogging them, after all in this day and age they'd sell dogshit if it was profitable. But it does irk me to see people wearing them. Have a bit of self-respect for fucks sake

Your point is well made WHF, it just grieves me to think we are cashing in on our underdog status, or even worse that we are accepting that we are a no hope club looking up to others instead of desperately fighting to get back there. In reality, it's probably no more than a 'make-hay-while-the-sun-shines' kind of deal....just one in poor taste imo. Maybe the frustration of 5 years down here is starting to get to me mate?

I'd imagine plenty of kids (and some grown-ups) will be excited about the game and want a souvenir.

Personally I don't understand these split shirts/scarves - but plenty of people wear them. Live and let live.

A lad I went with bought a villa 50:50 scarf as a momento of a great day out, as did my son on the way to the Hull game. I've not seen either of them worn at a game, but saved a bit like a programme. Sometimes this site gets a bit, "I'm a real blade because....."

We went to Madrid for my mates stag weekend last year and took in a game between Real Madrid and Villareal ,so my mate bought one as a momento of his stag night. Yep, there used to be a time when you had your own colours on a scarf etc but now we have the crest of an opposition club in our shop. The fact some people think this acceptable says everything you need to know about where football has gone.

Football has become a shallow, meaningless game supported by people who would wear a replica cows fanny so long as it is celebrates the occasion of a 3rd round cup tie against a big club. Mind you, for some they will be able to support the winning team no matter who wins won't they.

This morning I receive an email from them regarding the shop sale. Picking the link the first thing I see is a fucking Manchester United v Sheffield United scarf. How small do the club think we are that we have to sell a scarf to commemorate a 3rd round cup game against anyone else. We're not some fucking none league team. I'm ashamed. Get these off sale FFS.

And as for anyone who buys one, get a grip. If you want to wear colours , wear those of the club you support - not those that say to everyone that you're not sure who you want to

Exactly that. It's what stops us becoming a laughing stock, such as Reading. At some point, the plastification of football has to stop, and it's people saying "fuck that" that will stop it.
