We are so boring

People saying 6k not bad, just before xmas, and the way we playing is bad, but if we were playing better and actually moving forward, I think we all know there would have 9/10k at least yesterday. Imo.

Spineless, clueless and boring.

The attendance yesterday sums it all up this season for me, we are absolutely crap.

I think we will be very lucky to finish anywhere above 12th, we are that bad.

Proper fed up now, 6000 too many turned up yesterday.
Totally agree,it was so boring

Making a bit of cash from the cup this season is all we have left now Danny.

I think we have to face the fact that this season will be a write-off. The club will only decline further with these arseholes playing for us.
My only hope is that they will be gone after May, I despise most of them with a couple of exceptions.

Once you start to look at this season as a 'transitional' one, things start to look a bit more optimistic.

Yeah my feeling towards this squad of players is the least positive of any squad since I've been a blade....

However, it's not all the players fault. This squad finished 5th last season, so the ability level can't all be bad in comparison with the rest of the league. Questions have to be asked of the manager, his tactics, his signings and his ability to motivate the team.

In reality a team that finished 5th last year, with the ability to bring in new players and ship out some should not be regressing, and if it is, then some of the responsibility is on the manager.

I think once you've got your head around the idea that we're really battling against relegation, it will feel more exciting.

And yes, we're really boring. But don't forget about the change in ethos we're benefiting from.:)

Points wise, we were as far off promotion as relegation. Our second half of the season form was terrible. And then we've lost Murphy.

I don't think the comparisons are fair - but I do agree the manager has got some responsibility for the current shambles.

I'll agree that the 1st half was boring in fact it was turgid. It improved in the second half when we injected some pace and movement up front and passion throughout the side. I for one was glad when Nigel finally had the sense to give Billy a rest.

After the last few performances I would take 12th if you offered it me now. It reminds me a lot of the 2010 / 11 season when most thought we were poor at this stage of the season but would not finish anywhere near relegation... And then didn't win a game from early December until mid March and that was that.

We need to wake up or we will sleep walk into the relegation struggle over the next six weeks.

To address a few points on here:-

1. I feel exactly the same way as the OP.

2. That attendance is dreadful at any time of year for this club and reflects the mood of the supporters.

3. The manager is starting to make himself accountable now. He has a poor team but doesn't help himself by persisting with some of the worst of them.

Fair enough. However, we got 36 points from our first 23 games last season and 35 from our second 23. So although the last season wasn't great, it was consistent throughout, and enough to get us 5th.

The general mood last year was that Clough wasn't getting enough out of the squad and all it needed was a more attacking style, a center half, center mid and forward.

The new management has now taken the above and we are 12th, with a squad that looks devoid of confidence, with no noticeable playing style, the weaknesses of last year haven't really be addressed and as zablade says, this could suddenly turn into a relegation battle.

Yeah, two thirds of the squad probably needs moving on, but the drastic regression from last year makes me wonder if the manager has what it takes to turn it around.

And on the fans/board who were so eager for us to change managers. Wouldn't have been this bad under clough.

Something is wrong for sure. Like someone said, there's a total lack of urgency, we start every game like we are already 4-0 up!!!!!

Who would you replace with who though? Almost to a man, they've all proved that they aren't good enough. I don't see obvious changes.

Brayford is quality and will survive the fallout of this season.
Done please keep him in the strikers role he is a lethal finisher at this level.
Coutts in the holding role sound, quality passer of the ball needs a quality attacking midfielder around him Hammond is too much in the same vain.
It's not going to happen for Billy here never will.
The rest what can you say.

Selling Murphy one game in.....?

if there is a consistent truism that typifies us its selling the best players often at strategically disastrous times. MacDonald and Murphy both went right at the start of the season, what does that do for the morale of anyone apart from the player who replaces him?

However, it's not all the players fault. This squad finished 5th last season, so the ability level can't all be bad in comparison with the rest of the league. Questions have to be asked of the manager, his tactics, his signings and his ability to motivate the team.

agree with the above but you have left out the players - the attitude of the players

I suggest we need a hardcore, intelligent, commanding captain to reorganise on the pitch himself (mid-half) and transmit the tactics of the manager to the rest of the team - a lieutenant if you like. The players don't seem to be able to motivate themselves so they need someone to do it for them.

Do natural captains exist anymore at third division level?

can Brayford do it ?

Mid table mediocrity may suit the Pigs, but it is not the Blades way. We always seem likely to be changing divisions; sometimes up, sometimes down. Not easy to tell which way this year, but current form suggests a relegation battle.
The two things mos of us expected from Adkins were: motivate the players to play a more attacking brand of football and to bring in players of better quality in key positions identified time and again on this forum. On both counts he has been disappointing.

I was really referring to the squad we have- it's not like we have great players that aren't being placed.

Out of our squad is keep K Wallace (cheap), Done, Basham (versatile), JCR (cheap) and Adams.

Brayford and Sharp would probably have to go to fund squad rebuilding.

Harris / Freeman - meh

There aren't any. I would simply drop the obvious ones permanently and play youth team players in their place. I don't care what anyone says they cannot do any worse. How can you do worse than utter dog shit?

We have Kennedy (defender), Di Maio (midfielder), Calvert-Lewin (midfielder/forward), De Girolamo (winger/forward). All may as well leave the club if they can't get in this current side because it's as bad as it gets. It might be viewed as clutching at straws but to me persisting with the old guard will only continue to send us in the direction we are going in.

There's little value in keeping JCR given his age and productivity. He's no more than a cheerful subplot in a feature length tragedy.

If we can afford to keep Sharp and Brayford we should. Do you trust us to sign adequate replacements?

As for the rest, your list is fair. The likes of Harris and Freeman are good enough given better players alongside them, but it's those elusive leading players we're missing.

JCR's my little pet choice. In a team of players who refuse to face the opposition goal and take any responsibility, he breaks the mould and I respect him for it - but I take your point.

Brayford and Sharp - how do you define afford? I'm sure we can pay the bills - it's the players we can't sign because of it that concerns me.

As for signing adequate replacements - I've got to believe we will get this right eventually. If we carry on as we are, we're doomed.

Having seen Di Maio at Preston last season, believe me, it really can get worse.

Incentive to do well , Incentive to be part of an onwards and upwards squad is surely available to the players capable of achievement. Those players should be encouraged and retained. They, and the management know who they are.
The also rans should be got rid of by any means, paid off ASAP. Until this happens, we are a divided club. Unfortunately that wage structure will keep the dead wood.

General Turnbull and his New Scouting Army should by now have identified suitable targets and are ready to strike with military precision.
