Nigel Adkins

I am really disappointed - Whilst I was against the sacking of Nigel Clough I thought the appointment of Nigel Adkins a positive move - how wrong I was !

His tedious interviews, his soundbites and his disparaging remarks regarding supporters that can't see the tremendous work that Dean Hammond puts in really took the biscuit !

He has not proved anything yet, his buys and loans have not been very successful and if Hammond, Woolford, Sharp and sammons are prime examples of his transfer judgement I fear we are in for yet another season in Division Three next year.

Waffle and Bullshit seems to be his thing !
I think another year amongst this dross is pretty much guaranteed.

Another exemplary interview last night. I hope it shows everybody t hat he knows the issues. He's been here nearly 5 months now and he knows he has to change his approach. Can't be clearer than that.

But, what can he change in the short term?

He has the same squad of players that have consistently let him down.

He can shuffle it round again but that's it.

Woody, you're an experienced Blade but are you trying to wind us up with this post?

Listened to it again and sounded totally deflated, "solution " was mentioned on ten occasions as he was scratching about trying to explain that performance. Fair play to him he did finally say "actions speak louder than words" lets hope that materializes in Saturdays team selection and performance of players and management.

I've just started a thread on one possible way forward.

I'm not intending to. I'm trying to have empathy for the manager. Have a look at my new thread on solutions.

He has still only been here less than 5 months and his Plans A&B have not worked. He knows the extent of the challenge now. Certain players cannot provide the personal drive needed.

The only system that worked last night was the big boot down the middle and a big guy up front, the big boot worked OK but the big guy up front wasn't half way good enough, and if your going to play for knock downs, why on earth put Sharp on the wing ?

Hes also making Hammond look a bit of a twat ,he must know as must his team mates that he is playing shit.

As I left the ground today, I was thinking about Hammond and thought he (plus Coutts and Woolford) played really well and what Adkins was saying about Hammond a few weeks back where he claimed that supporters couldn't see what he really brought to the team.

Today, I really did see what Hammond offers, so have I just woken up to it and he was always good, even at Crewe, or is he playing rather better than he was? :-)

I actually don't think his personal performances are vastly different to his first games, the players around him are just finally responding to his presence. He commands a respect and discipline that no one else in the team does, I said when we were linked with him that he is exactly what we needed, I'm just glad now that he is showing his worth.

Perhaps a bit of both but as Caseh says, I think it's also largely down to how certain players affect other players. Coutts played like a world beater and that's in no small part down to Hammond and Bash doing the donkey work in midfield and Brayford and Sharp always giving him an option. We need to keep developing those partnerships. Brayford and Coutts, Edgar and Collins, Hammond and Basham, McEveley and Woolford (though I still hope that's not a long term fixture) etc.
