"You're not fit to wear the shirt"

Tonight was Weir-esque in the complete lack of collective effort and personal pride. It doesn't get worse than that.

It's not Adkins' style, but it really is time to get back to the absolute basics of defending and stopping the opposition before thinking about anything remotely clever or tricksy. Pick players on character (if we have any) and physicality. Don't lose, then try to win.

Not sure what players we can pick on character or physicality? Sammon?

I see Higdon scored two tonight!

Can I pass on that question? :)

Clough faced similar issues when he joined us. And he found a way eventually. It's similar territory again, unbelievable as it is to admit it.

Has there ever been a truer sentiment uttered or chant directed at a set of players than what was sung at this pathetic bunch of losers than "you're not fit to wear the shirt" as was sung when the 4th goal went in?

It's about to start getting really really nasty at the lane and this sorry excuse for professional footballers deserve ever bit of vitriol coming their way.

If we had the choice, I would terminate the contract of virtually ever single pathetic loser out on that pitch pretending to represent my club tonight.

Not sure I've been so ashamed of a team as I am of that pathetic set of pricks out on the field tonight.

Utterly, Indefensively, pathetic from top to bottom.

As spineless and shameful set of losers as I've EVER had the misfortune to have to pay money to have to watch.

Agree with what you say Pete, pity it seemed to start some kind of ruckus on back of Kop, anyone know what that was about ?

We all know, "it can be done"..(Clough got us off the bottom and up to 7th, Roy Keane took Sunderland from second bottom to promotion) I just don't see any miracle for us, pretty much since the opening day I have thought we would struggle. I was at Port Vale away and Oldham away, etc., terrible performances. Our only chance is to spend in January, but I just don't see that happening either.

Not a great time to be a Blade

While we are not world beaters mate, I agree, I don't think we will be relegated, I think we will do enough to stay lower half of the table.

There is just something incredibly wrong at Sheffield United and I can't work out what it is.

Come the start of next season, we will be the biggest club in England that has spent the most consecutive seasons in League One. Not exactly the sort of record I was envisioning, when I was asking my parents for football boots for Christmas, with fluorescent orange stripes down the side, so I could look like Mick Speight, all those years ago..........
Rather ironic that Ted Hemsley was featured in the programme tonight. Met him on a match day and, apparently, they all earned the same in the 1970s. Currie was the first to break the mould wages wise. We need more players prepared to fight for the cause, regardless of salary.
PS Reed was shite tonight

Reed not been good enough for a while mate.

Like I have said before, we sold good players and replaced them with lesser talent, then sold the lesser talent and replaced with poor, so we end up in a position where, bit by bit, we have replaced everyone and ended up with this squad.

We need an entirely new squad, which I am not sure we will ever be in a position to do.

So we have to start, bit by bit, replacing a player here, and a player there, and that will take ages.

The thought of a few more years in this League is terrible!

The only thing that stopped us spending at least five years in Division Three the last time we were down here was the fact that it was broken up by a season in the Fourth.
Sheffield United eh!!!!!!
The good times are nothing when compared to everyone else's good times and the bad times are diabolically embarrassing.
What a completely useless football club it is, it can't do a bleeding thing right.

Basham showed he is not good enough too. Slow, lumbering and weak. Exactly the sort of player Shrewsbury's players eyes lit up at when they ran forward. He was even worse than Collins first half and I cant stand Collins!

Basham is an awful footballer and has been since day one. A few good games is all it takes to convince some people these days which also says a lot. Whenever we sell people (Blackman, Murphy for example) people content themselves with the fact that they only show up every other game. Well now we have a squad of players who only show up one game in ten.

I chanted that as loud as I possibly could and feel very happy in doing so.

I'm honestly disgusted at what I saw last night and what I've seen for the past few years.
It's time for us to scrap our method of buying 'big' names. They don't give a fuck they're either past it or don't give a fuck.

Sign players who want to play for the club, it's a massive club and there ARE players out there who will give their all for it. They are in league one and they have names such as 'Bradley Dack' and 'Tom Bradshaw'.
But they haven't played in the championship before, and they're on the up not down so there's no chance of us signing them.

Amazes me how we have so little organisation or passion with Morgan on the bench.

When you look at our squad Olly, Bash would be near the front of the slightly more talented players, but like you say, he is nowhere near good enough for what we need.

Mate, I don't think Morgan is on the bench like in Clough's days. I thought I read that Morgs just looked after the U21s

I could be wrong

If Morgan was on the bench, they should have brought the fucker on. We are seriously lacking someone of his ilk with some fire in his belly, loads of passion and not afraid to go through a few players from time to time. I wouldn't want any of this shower of shit behind me if I got in trouble. I'd be on mi own

Interesting that McNulty got a hat trick and all in the second half, can't imagine he didn't see we were 3-1 down at half time.

There are plenty of free agents out there that could improve the current squad even if its only till January. We need some bite in defence and in midfield as we are currently just too lightweight.

I agree. If anyone comes on and blames the fans again

The players were lucky they got away with what came out. I remember in much higher divisions it being much worse (under Warnock at times and Porterfield etc)

If Phipps and Mccabe had any balls they would rip up contracts or pay off players from tomorrow. They wont.

They can't. Not until January anyway as that would leave us with zero players and we wouldn't be able to honour our fixture list..

Agree with much of what you say, but why are you resigned to,another year in league 1? Our current form suggests league 2 for next year. 9 points from 9 games, defeats to winless Crewe and conceding 4 at home to a team 5th from bottom.
In a way this might not be a bad thing if it results in a shake up at board level like last time we hit the 4th tier.
When I attended my first game at the Lane 45 years ago I don't think any of us could have imagined such a dismal future.
I generally keep my posts short and lean more towards the whimsical than the analytical but I am so pissed off with people at every level of the club that treat our loyalty and passion so lightly. Yes, I did sing ' You're not fit to wear the shirt' and I make no apology for that, because it matters to us all who wears it and this shower of shite have abused it mightily.
UTB and fuck off all this who don't share our passion

So there is hope after all!! A point per game till the end of the season would probably just about see us safe. Although it would be a close run thing..........

Cant we sign free unattached players instead? Cant be no worse than what we have.

When clough first arrived he immediately set about our defence, the football wasn't great but we stopped losing and he then went about playing attractive, quick football that was great to watch, the future at the end of the season was very positive, playing at Wembley, especially the first half filled us all with optimism, God if we could have seen then what would happen in a relatively short time, anyway I suppose this could mean we could be back shortly, aint holding my breath but I will cling to anything today.

Unfortunately, those are "big names" and they wouldn't give us a second glance.
Their sights would be set far higher than our shower of shit.

Which is better than shite and plenty good enough for L1

If we ever get promoted from this terrible league then I would say that only Done and the Beard could step up to the standard required - the rest can coco
