Has there ever been a truer sentiment uttered or chant directed at a set of players than what was sung at this pathetic bunch of losers than "you're not fit to wear the shirt" as was sung when the 4th goal went in?

It's about to start getting really really nasty at the lane and this sorry excuse for professional footballers deserve ever bit of vitriol coming their way.

If we had the choice, I would terminate the contract of virtually ever single pathetic loser out on that pitch pretending to represent my club tonight.

Not sure I've been so ashamed of a team as I am of that pathetic set of pricks out on the field tonight.

Utterly, Indefensively, pathetic from top to bottom.

As spineless and shameful set of losers as I've EVER had the misfortune to have to pay money to have to watch.

Definitely a new low tonight. The type of performance that would even see Blade Too Long claim automatic promotion won't be won until 10 games before the end of the season. :)

But seriously, if anything good came out of tonight, it might be that it has rammed the final nail in the coffin of most of the biggest set of wage thieves collected at BDTBL in my 40+ years of support. At least comparable embarrassment of squads were built on the cheap. We've paid a relative fortune to be this shite.

Actually I've seen worse Pete but I know exactly where you are coming from. They lack desire and a winning mentality as well as a brain to make simple footballing decisions. So many are just going through the motions putting in minimum effort and they are quickly being found out and embarrassed now........ But do they give a toss? While ever they are earning there grossly inflated league one wages I doubt it

Agree with both of you fellas. The problem isn't the manager it's the 'players'

I can honestly say that I do think they are trying to win a game of football, seriously but it's plain to see the problem is that they are simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The majority are playing at a level that is too high for them.

This list is getting shorter week by week but here's my retain list...

Done
Brayford
Basham
Baxter

The rest can do one!

Think you're going too easy on them there Pete ;)

I agree. If anyone comes on and blames the fans again

The players were lucky they got away with what came out. I remember in much higher divisions it being much worse (under Warnock at times and Porterfield etc)

If Phipps and Mccabe had any balls they would rip up contracts or pay off players from tomorrow. They wont.

This is my concern. Talk of motivation, formations, substitutions - they all create a smokescreen that given the right tweaks, we could get it right. The reality is they just are not good enough.

Fortunately, most could tread water in this division. Given 3 or 4 of the right signings, we could still turn it around given the state of this division. Unfortunately, there is zero evidence that the club / manager are likely to make those signings.

Basham showed he is not good enough too. Slow, lumbering and weak. Exactly the sort of player Shrewsbury's players eyes lit up at when they ran forward. He was even worse than Collins first half and I cant stand Collins!

Basham and Done were terrible tonight, okay who wasn't, but I would not look to them on their form this season.

Basham is one of the problems.
Not strong enough. Not nasty enough. Used to relegation.

Done's hardly had a chance in the outright forward role, he's generally been out wide. Billy Sharp has done nothing to be guaranteed a place, and Done's pace would give us some different options up top.

DB I think it's easy for players to get dragged in to the mire when the rest are shite. Basham is really a midfielder imo but I agree tonight he was as bad as the rest. Only Baxter put in any effort and he was sacrificed tactically.

Basham!
You are joking?

Correct, Done is getting shafted as much as the rest of us fans. Get him up top WHERE HE WAS OUR BEST PLAYER LAST SEASON.

I'd also keep Sharp, Adams and JCR as squad players.

That chant was thoroughly deserved by every player on the pitch and two of the three in the dressing room getting an early bath, when our second goal went in I couldn't be arsed to cheer let alone jump out of my seat and looking around me in the centre of the kop many felt the same apathy has truly set in with a lot of fans.

So, so glad I am working overseas today!

Not sure where we go from here, because if nothing is done in January, then it's another year in League One, and to be honest, I have resigned my self to that fact anyway. Not scoring enough, can't defend, can't take control of a game, can't shake things up when needed.

We have slowly but surely, over the last 6 years, sold off the best players and replaced them with adequate, and then sold the adequate and replaced them with poor, not sure what we replace the poor with.

Our gates are the envy of everyone in our division, and the division above, we have stuck by the team for five years in this league.

The first time round, we had that run of bad luck, we all know about it, Evans (scoring for fun) goes to prison, McDonald (controlling every game) ends up on crutches for the last matches, Maguire (the rock in the back line), gets a three match ban. The Perfect Storm at the end of the season that meant we limped into Wembley, held off Jordan Rhodes and then went out on penalties. We could all say, "ah well that really was bad luck and bad timing, if Evans had played to the end of the season we would have gone up", etc.

No more excuses left though now is there? We just don't have anything like a decent squad, even if on paper it says we should, matches are not played on paper.

Sharp is really pissing me off now. It's blatantly obvious he's out of form and not doing anything like enough to justify selection yet continues to have an untouchable status. Same as Hammond. So far Adkins seems as bad as Clough with his favourites.

I always try to see the positives in things. However tonight I have never seen a team with all the players playing so bad, all at the same time, with a lack of motivation in themselves (not the manager), since I started watching United in the sixties. It was the personal pride in themselves I couldn't understand.....We all have bad games but there is no excuse for a lack of effort....Sad day for me.......I expect a large clearout is imminent.

Same here mate, dark days indeed...

Agree with much of what you say, but why are you resigned to,another year in league 1? Our current form suggests league 2 for next year. 9 points from 9 games, defeats to winless Crewe and conceding 4 at home to a team 5th from bottom.
In a way this might not be a bad thing if it results in a shake up at board level like last time we hit the 4th tier.
When I attended my first game at the Lane 45 years ago I don't think any of us could have imagined such a dismal future.
I generally keep my posts short and lean more towards the whimsical than the analytical but I am so pissed off with people at every level of the club that treat our loyalty and passion so lightly. Yes, I did sing ' You're not fit to wear the shirt' and I make no apology for that, because it matters to us all who wears it and this shower of shite have abused it mightily.
UTB and fuck off all this who don't share our passion

Tonight was Weir-esque in the complete lack of collective effort and personal pride. It doesn't get worse than that.

It's not Adkins' style, but it really is time to get back to the absolute basics of defending and stopping the opposition before thinking about anything remotely clever or tricksy. Pick players on character (if we have any) and physicality. Don't lose, then try to win.

While we are not world beaters mate, I agree, I don't think we will be relegated, I think we will do enough to stay lower half of the table.

There is just something incredibly wrong at Sheffield United and I can't work out what it is.

Come the start of next season, we will be the biggest club in England that has spent the most consecutive seasons in League One. Not exactly the sort of record I was envisioning, when I was asking my parents for football boots for Christmas, with fluorescent orange stripes down the side, so I could look like Mick Speight, all those years ago..........
