All things being equal .do you have faith that the manager can turn things round ?
Im undecided but tend to veer towards the yes camp

Think this guy has the pedigree but im.not sure he has the tools ,if he wants to take this team on a charge he will have to stand up to the board and demand better players in key positions

I also strongly believe that this league is pitifully poor and a bit of momentum can take you a long way

Not seen anything to make me believe that this side have the bollox to put a run together but its not impossible
 



Like I have said before if he can't then I doubt anyone else can with this group of players.

If anyone else could it would still involve offloading some of the players we have which Adkins is already trying to do.

Not with this squad and without a MASSIVE ( sorry ) clear-out of out dead wood and an infusion of solidity, pace & strength down the spine of the team.

Adkins had to change. He's trying some of the same things Clough failed with.

He's currently on another planet, it's mentioned on another thread and many of us have said it for a while: don't worry about championship until we get there.

We need to buy from this division and get a side to succeed in this division. If that means to put his principles of tippy tappy football aside for pacey, powerful, perhaps more direct style in order to take three points not one, then we do it.
 
Yes, of course he can.

Will he? Not sure, I think so.

Unfortunately it looks like Rodgers is going to the Middle East so we're stuck with him until Real sack Benitez.
 
Yes, we have to believe that.

I'm expecting little improvements not major ones. It's going to be a long process.
 
I am in the yes(if given time) camp . We have to be patient (which we are rubbish at) because we have quite a lot wrong !!! For his part though , in order for us to show patience he has to improve on what's happening at the minute and show signs of improvement especially when the time for recruitment comes ! Because at the moment this lot from board to team would test the patience of a saint , hope Santa brings us our long wish list , as ever UTB !
Ps hope we play well tonight to warm us up , its bloody freezing !!
 
He's got his chosen 11, or matchday squad of 18, with just Brayford to come in, now. Time for some consistency.

Next 6 games or so should tell us a lot.

Have we got that bit of resilience & backbone starting to emerge now? Will we start to see a (better, more coherent) pattern of play, on a regular basis? Can we go & string a run together (amongst some tough games coming up)?

I'm thinking we might just be turning a corner, having dug out two draws with a bit of ballsy character. But, in saying that, if the Shrews become the latest "minnow" to turn us over at the Lane & win here for the first time in 153 years or whatever then I wouldn't be massively surprised. It's that sort of knife-edge we're on. ("The knife-edge of mediocrity". Maybe about to slice decisively into "the sirloin of spectacular success". Or not.)
 
At the moment I would say no, based on a lot of bad management so far. But there's still not really a level playing field on which to judge him. We all know what state the squad's in.

If he can't turn it around and turns out to be a failure, then it could only happen to us to appoint someone with that record and get nothing at all in return.
 
If he was given three seasons to build without having to sell then he may well do.

But neither of those things are likely to happen are they?

Unless we get into playoff contention he's not likely to see out the season.
 
As my Granddad would have said (and he supported the blades in their halcyon days of 1900+) " IT'S SHIT OR BUST NIGHT TONIGHT" for Adkins and our promotion aspirations. Hope the team all have a good pre-match shit.

still two thirds of the season to go
plenty of room for improvement , a fair ammount of time to do it in
with 5 key players working towards match fitness we have the possibilty of a 20 to 25 % improvement
might just be enough , with 2 maybe 3 more new bodies in
incremental catching up , getting the gap down to 5 or 6 points off second by feb then a single result gap by Easter

Just need to hang on to the coat tails of the top 2 and climb on their shoulders in April

3 point hauls have got to become habit forming

I can't wait for the dream team of Dinosaur Dave and Muckanettles. The sad thing is many of the single-cells would be all for it...

I despair.
 
This season the play-offs would represent a turnaround ( 3 wins in 13 isn't it?). I don't expect us to challenge the top 2 with the current players. Some of the returning injured players may make a difference but we still need to sort out central defence, GK (neither inspire confidence) and CM. The club need to sort the spine out in the January window and they need to gel quickly for anything to come out of this season. I think Adkins will be given the summer window and a clear out to sort it. If we aren't looking strong by Xmas our impatient board will pull the trigger. And the merrygoround will continue.
 
Yes. Plenty of room for improvement by both parties (coach and players) but the team will get better as the season progresses in my opinion. The squad will hopefully be improved by incomings and outgoings in the JTW in the areas we all see that we need to strengthen. I don't believe Adkins has got promotions on his CV by luck and I feel that given time he will be able to get the team he wants performing the way we all want at the lane. Don't think we will go up this season mind ...

It isn't. It's attention-seeking shite. Sadly the stock-in-trade of this forum these days.

The game is very important but it's nonsense to suggest it's determinative of our promotion chances. Not surprised though. Nonsense is now de rigeur on here.
 
Adkins seems to be SLOWLY ... Going about what needs to be done in terms of getting players out on loan... So he's ultra positive about the players all the time but his actions say that he actually doesn't believe all that and is farming them out.

I say yes over the next two seasons....

Oh and effective football is what is deemed necessary to win a match which means changing styles to beat the opponent. Anyone advocating one styles (passing) over another (long ball) is tactically naive.
 
I think given time he will turn this around, the only bad feeling I have about it, is that I think Adkins will eventually say "this is a joke" and walk.

Seeing as its you Pinchy I'll bite. It's not a request for hoof, but to be more direct. Does that mean long balls? Not really.

It means JCR and Che Adams doing what Jamie Murphy did - running at defenders and getting the ball in early. It means Baxter having a crack from thirty yards

It means putting teams onto their arses by getting into them.

Not sitting back and letting our centre halves tap it between them and George long, I want Hammond and Coutts taking the ball off them and getting it out to JCR/ Baxter/ Che and letting them put sides on the back foot.

Your concept of the game has always amused me. Mostly I can't be arsed to question it.

It's setting our stall out to embrace tippy tappiness that has entrenched us in this division for so long.

We have restricted our way of thinking in order to banish the memory of Warnock, and it has cost us dearly.

Stoke successfully changed their philosophy overnight, being successful both before and after. We decided we needed a complete shift in "ethos" to move forward, and it has been one of the costliest mistakes in the club's history.

Those who argued for it should hold their hands up.

(Edit: I posted this with a few in mind, not realising they had later contributed to the thread. You know who you are :))

He may turn it around eventually given time. But all I can hope for this season is just being a little bit less shit by the end of it.

No harm in having an "ethos", but this is my thing, we have an "ethos" for today and think that's how we must play now...

Reality is that you can have that ethos and play to the strength of those players you have now.

JCR and Che should both be high tempo direct players, but were fannying around trying to hit that wonder cross to Billy to volley. Fuck it, last one from 20 yards like southends full back did.

Michael brown, tonge and even monty would smash the ball from the edge of the box when the opposition cleared a corner. Now we tap it to JCR and he beats his man six times before putting a shit cross out for a goal kick. Great

There's a bit more too it for me though, although I agree we can get far more from the current crop.

Going back, there was talk of prioritising the players we signed. Afterall, who needs pace and athleticism, look at Swansea, look at Leon Britton. The result is we put no emphasis on this, and ended up with a team of Paul Coutts's. Technically able, physically woeful.
