Adkins... No better than Clough... But....

He had 2 options when he inherited this squad.

1 - Sign the right players in the right positions first, and quality one's.
2 - Sign players lacking quality, in the wrong positions first. Then continue in failing to strengthen key areas.

The bad results have a lot to do with his decision to choose route 2.

He shouldn't be able to get away with pointing to the squad whilst his glaring errors that have contributed to it go un-noticed.

You're assuming he's had adequate funds and support. Your speculation amounts to a load of nonsense.

Well after 15 league matches under Clough we had more points than we do now and we were still in the League Cup. And Clough's attacking options were pretty much limited to McNulty and Higdon. So yes, based on results so far you could say Adkins is no better than Clough.

I give up. I can't reason with the clueless.

Why stick him wide or sammon and Adams down the middle ? What is he thinking about ??

I think it's probably being wide in a midfield four that he doesn't like, given his success when played further forward. I don't know though, I'm just guessing.

Either way, he was very poor today and not much better Tuesday.

The funds he was given for the four players he did sign was easily enough to sign four players but in the correct positions.

It's very close to a fact that we'd be in a better position now if he had done that.

I would say that with Sammon, Sharp, Woolford and Hammond all brought in so far you cannot say that Adkins has not been given funds and support. It sounds like we are sailing very close to the FPP restrictions and it is up to the manager to decide how to use the funds that are available to him; in my opinion three of those payers have so far not proved to be money well spent.

Adkins has been really poor this season. Everyone keeps saying he can build his own team etc and get rid of Clough's dross but people need to think what he has brought in.

He has signed

Edgar
Woolford
Sammon
Hammond
Sharp

All 5 have disappointed me. The first 3 have been poor for the most part. Hammond not impressed albeit early and Sharp has missed some sitters.

Worrying for any future signings.

As others have said, his decisions and where he has picked stuff has been baffling. He has got outcoached a lot this season by managers who have set up and nullified our strengths and exposed our weaknesses easily

I am not advocating another change and not even discussing that. Think unless something remarkable happens we need to keep him for the long haul and give him chance to build but,....

Nothing wrong with saying how disappointing it has been so far under him though and offering that opinion. It has been no better than under Clough. We have scored some more goals I will give him that but the results are actually worse.

The table does not lie.

We seem to be lacking that edge,it's that what their always on about errrrrrm,

WORK ETHIC!!!!!!,

Yer that it, that's what their lacking, work ethic. By the time they realize it need more go it's already gone......

Wilson was a decent manager, Clough was a decent manager, Adkins is also a decent manager. What Wilson and Clough needed and what Adkins needs is that time to rebuild.

What this club needs more than anything is a stable management set up, the time and the opportunity to rebuild the squad in Adkins style. It won't be done this season so we all need to sit in for the long haul.

Sacking Adkins will put this club back further.

As I've said before, bringing in Premiership and championship reputations is ok, but we need to build with young, hungry players from this division. Give players like Wallace and Magahey the chances.

But whatever happens, we need a captain AND a centre half.

The board need to have a long hard look at themselves and work with the manager to rebuild

.....we have to stick with him, we are down here for another three seasons minimum so we may as well keep some consistency.

Next summer a hell of a lot of dead wood we have been saddled with will be gone, then starts a new two season rebuild... It's going be a long slog.
Very true ! We have to sit it out and wait for a clear out come summer , one things for sure is that we need stability at this club. I just hope atkins is still with us by then , it's going to be a long haul getting out of this division, but I believe we'll get there in the end .

Wow! A striker missing chances! Whatever next.

Of that list of 5, I'd say only Hammond had failed to impress at all and he's neither fit nor has he been here long

Sharp has surprised me and shown much more class and leadership than many of our other 'captains' in the team

Adkins biggest mistake was bringing Collins anywhere near the first team

I'm almost as frustrated as you Z believe me but I don't think we will be stuck in this shit hole of a league for another three seasons.

Disappointing result today but performance [in parts] was as good as I've seen this season - a lot better than Tuesday that's for sure. I think we will get better and I think we should see where we stand post Christmas. If we remain in touching distance, and I think we can, the second half of the season might prove to be a whole new ball game.

Personally Z, I think it's madness to even be talking about 'binning' another manager, I really do.

We also have to remember that we have three key players close to returning.
The right side will benefit massively when Brayford is back and Wallace will become a good deputy to Harris (hopefully).
Also Edgar although not perfect is the best CH we have. So when we those three back and bedded in again we should have a bit more strength. However we still need another decent CH before we could even think about getting a run together.

I agree with you about Collins

Edgar was brought in to shore up the defence - he did not. Played well initially but was poor for most of the games - shocking at Bradford.
Sammon cant even get in the side and has had maybe a couple of good games #
Woolford - Been awful when played and barely makes bench now
Sharp - Scored goals but has missed some sitters. His performances have been mixed but overall he has been decent but even he admits he could do better
Hammond - Been very ordinary to poor

Not sure how we can say he has done well analysing that lot - really poor business.

I agree. Adkins will be here for long haul but he cant be happy with his signings, where he has picked players and the overall performances and results. I expected much better.

You were one of the most vocal people wanting us to keep Clough though if I remember correctly, so I belive that maybe colouring your opinion on the current manager a touch. A lot of the problems we have date back to Clough's poor signings last season.

Some of Cloughs signings are not poor.

Whether it's Clough or Adkins in charge doesn't alter the fact that there is a bloody big hole in the centre of our defence that the likes of Colcester, Bury and now Millwall can drive a bus through.

Nowts going to change until we plug it.

Disagree pal, and I know he will never be fit enough for an entire season, but Terry Kennedy is the best CH we have. At Port Vale he out jumped Collins and Edgar (who he replaced), kept Vale's big number 9 quiet (who had terrorised our back four), and has the bottle to go in hard, not shy away from a tackle and stick his head and body on the line.

Does anyone think at this moment in time we are closer to promotion this season than we were last ?
At present I'm failing to see any improvement on last season and that's very worrying........

Totally agree with that, if Kennedy had the knees he'd be long gone down the road that Maguire took.

The only saving grace is there are no great shakes above us but Gillingham and Walsall are better sides than us. They have proved it so far.

I cannot see any way this side will go on a run and get promotion. They do not have it in them.

Didn't help that two of our most dangerous players, Adams and Done, had absolute shockers. Done looked barely fit, in fact he kept hitting speculative crossfield balls rather than run at his man.
There was one instance in the first half where he picked the ball up about 10 yards into the Millwall half and had yards of space to run into towards the area but he tried playing a cross field ball instead.

I am rather disappointed with Adkins but we really need to get long term stability. Something tells me we may not get more than at most two seasons from Nigel.

Deadbat Apologies I ignored woolfords shocking lack of contribution...

I think it's still far to early to judge them properly and dismiss them as 'poor business'

Sharp is really the only one that's played consistently. Strikers will miss sitters, I don't mind that, but you can't argue with his goal tally. I really thought he would be an expensive millstone but he's been fantastic both in terms of his goal return, his work rate and his link play. He's the first name on my team sheet and I'd not sub him unless he's having a really bad game. I'd take him off penalties though

The rest have all made contributions (except Hammond and Woolford) but as I said, it's still early for all of them

I take

I take that back, I agree Kennedy is the best we have you are right. I hope he does get over his long term knee problem. His height always worried me but he does jump well as you say.
