Adkins on discipline and loans

You know what you were saying about straw men ;)

Anyway...

I don't see this as reasonable, deductive, or evidence-based, or as a reasonable supposition. To me it's just a dig at the manager.

Everything is a dig at the club, the manager or the players to you. You even tried to argue McEveley was not at fault for any of the Bury goals.

You think that quote is unreasonable. You think it lacks evidence. You think it's a dig.

You think it's unreasonable to suggest that Adkins, after expressing a preference for full transfers and bringing in a single loan during the window, could be said to have not used the window optimally.

You think that assertion is unreasonable.

And you think that making that observation is a dig.

And you reply to me saying 'seriously?'

Make that definitely. Clarity of expression is no substitute for clarity of thought.

This is simply not the case.

The post in point looks like a pretty clear dig at the manager to me. Boils down to: I don't know what went on but I'm sure it wasn't good enough.

Fwiw I don't know what went on either but given his track record, experience, public pronouncements, and personality (and numerous other factors) I deduce the team probably did a good job. I may be wrong. Who knows?

Take your pick.

As for McEveley, from memory what I actually posted was I thought he might have been pushed for the third. Any claims he was at fault for the first were just agenda-driven nonsense. Then someone dragged in the second which really was unhinged. Fwiw I wasn't alone in this. Bergen for one was arguing I think that McEveley wasn't to blame for the third.

Anyway atm it looks like he might've been hounded out of the team so perhaps that's mission accomplished. Personally I think he could have been a decent squad player, as he had been in the past.

I think I'll duck that particular challenge

and let the watching millions decide. Cowardice? Or boredom?

For the record, the 'challenge', as you put it, was for you to back up your points with literally any substance or logical consistency at all.

Yes I think everyone knows what that sudden onset of 'boredom' signifies.

It might be worth pointing out that evidence, while at times being engaging, is neither fact nor truth. It is just evident.

Then again, it might not.

<< Nigel Adkins says he will not hesitate to wield the axe again if players fail to adhere to Sheffield United’s strict code of conduct.

Adkins, the United manager, issued the warning despite vowing to “protect” Che Adams after an off-the-pitch indiscretion led to him being dropped for Tuesday’s match against League One leaders Burton Albion.

Insisting that matter is now resolved - “We’ve dealt with it and moved on” - Adkins told The Star: “Everybody is aware of what I’m looking for from a discipline point of view. It’s very important, discipline. It’s part of taking pride in representing the football club.

“I’m big on that but I’ll protect the players too. Players know what I expect from them. We want everyone to strive to be at the highest level possible. It’s all part of that.”

Adams, an England under-20 international, could return to action at Port Vale this weekend after joining Matt Done and Florent Cuvelier in the under-21 squad which faced Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.

“This situation arose and we’ve dealt with it and moved on,” Adkins said. “Like everything in life, you need five positive experiences and one negative experience to learn from.”

Adkins, who also confirmed Jose Baxter has recovered from a groin complaint, insisted the return of players such as Paul Coutts, Ryan Flynn and Done had eased the pressure on United to make a quick entry into the emergency loan market.

Although officials at Bramall Lane privately believe one target, Fulham’s Dan Burn, will not be allowed to leave Craven Cottage until next year, they have held further talks with Leicester City aimed at signing Dean Hammond. The midfielder is thought to have signalled his interest in joining United but, while City will allow him to leave, sources in the Midlands last night reported their desire to review his future again in January could prove a stumbling block with Adkins known to prefer more concrete arrangements.>>

Don't fancy Coutts, Flynn or Done at CH.

Yes, there was contact at a moment where he was most vulnerable, jumping to get a slight touch with his forehead to the ball.

There was a situation against Burton that was similar, but where I think the Burton defender felt the contact from Sammon's hand - and decided it was a good opportunity to win a free kick and thus get out of a awkward situation. Cynical, but referees always blow in these situations if they can see the slightest bit of contact. Which he did here. In my opinion McEveley was more impeded from what he tried to do and was very unlucky.

McEveley vs Bury:

McEveley got the flight of the ball totally wrong - what's there to debate?

Forget bringing Burn or Hammond in for one second. Both clearly deserve to be at a higher level than League 1. We lack pace. It can't be that hard to bring in one of two young premiership players which would offer the squad something different? Other teams seem to manage it.

I think it's clear from that interview that we aren't going to be adding to our squad anytime soon.

It's disappointing in that we could have made a statement and positioned ourself to really take this league on and secondly we have players coming back but not really in the positions we are weak in.

We are an injury away from being screwed at cb and cm.

But we will at least have some decent players Colin back for selection. And we aren't in a bad position overall.
