Che a doubt for Saturday

The massive advancements made in the application of sports science to football have lead to modern footballers being finely tuned athletes and an understanding of the need to allow sufficient recovery time between games to permit continued performance at peak conditioning.

When people refer to players being 'tired' it's just shorthand for not recovering enough to perform at optimum levels. It's a shame people still don't understand this.

Great post.

Also happens in cricket. Though there the message is beginning to seep through, and there's a growing acceptance of players resting. (Perhaps aided by the high profile cases of depression - though I wonder if these are strictly related.)

I do think some of this is about communication. If those point about sports science and optimum performance levels were more widely discussed then I think this conversation/criticism might not arise.

I am surprised a (super fit?) 19 year old pro footballer has managed to miss 3 games with a virus and with no sign of a return. Considering the way footballers are looked after these days I think that is a bit odd.

Generic injury titles like 'virus' or 'illness' are often used to cover up things like: depression; failed drug test; family problems; mens health issues.

They're also used to explain the existence of things like viruses.

The whole point is that he's super fit. And he needs to be super fit to do his job.

It's like putting an F1 car into Grand Prix with, say, a dodgy exhaust*, it'll go very fast but it'll be miles off the pace.

It obviously varies from case to case but a virus generally takes about a week to work its way out of your system. Depending on what it is the recovery time can be short, long...or never

*Does this analogy makes sense - never owned a car.

Tbf, I've had a flu like virus for a couple of weeks now and my nephew's just a had a very bad stomach bug and temperature so there is stuff going around.

As someone's already suggested, he might have been told to keep away until he's fit as the last thing we need are four or five players getting it.

Che was at the game today sitting with Kennedy, Flynn, McFadzean, and three others.

I have mentioned this in here earlier today......

I heard Che Adams had Mumps which can be serious for adults and it is contagious. He has been better for some days but not fully fit yet

Only contagious in the first week but it does make you feel really ill if you get mumps as a grown up especially if if affects your bollocks. I got it in my 30's it laid me low for around a month.

I don't know, this could do us a huge favour depending on the players :D
