I cant believe you don't think hes lazy ,just watch him ,the old Sainsburys bag used to get round the pitch more than him ,he created nothing on Tuesday and I mean nothing against frigging Colchester. The guy is just taking the piss. I know this is just an opinion ,as is yours ,as is Bergens ,and none are more worthy than the other ,but mine is that if we persevere with him we will not go up. I will be hugely disappointed if he starts tomorrow.

The laziness tag might have fitted last season but not for me this season. He covers a lot of ground, mainly afaics if Freeman is an advanced position and we lose possession.

He does tire too easily to play CM in a 4-4-2, and struggles to recover late in the game. One time late on Tuesday the whole game seemed to run past him like an incoming tide drowning a helpless child.

As to whether he should be in the team:

Fwiw long term for me he signed his death warrant  when he got sent off at Fulham. A key player missing three games in a lost cause in a meaningless match. (I also read somewhere that the foul was bc the Fulham player had been showboating - not that it matters, it was a bad enough decision as it was.) He's been given chances (drugs, twice) and there he blew it.

Short term I was hoping Reed could fulfil the same role, and he can - eg Swindon - but not for a sustained period of games. With Wallace so reliably unreliable he's almost all we've got.

Oldham fans seem to like him, maybe their club will pay a few bob for him.

In the meantime he might not be that good, but there are things he can do and in a way he's the best we've got...till loans hopefully materialise.

Unfortunately you are right ,we have no alternatives ,Adkins must address the midfield problem with urgency ,as for Sunday I would start with Basham and Scougall ,with JCR and Adams either side and hope Flynn and Reed are fit as back up ,maybe bring Baxter on for the last 20.

But neither Basham nor Scoogs can play the role Adkins has assigned to Baxter: picking the ball up from defence and setting play in motion. Deep-lying playmaker.

We seem to have abandoned that ploy already anyway ,and neither can do a worse job than Baxter has done already.

Fair enough mate...I think he'll go with the same line to be honest, but with Che in for Woolford, and then we'll have to see who he can bring in at the end of the month and hope that one or two return to fitness.

Have we sunk to the depths of support for Baxter that we highlight how few things he did wrong ? This is our fucking playmaker ffs ,what is it with this guy ,why do you keep persevering ?
Btw WHF no matter how you try and dress is it ,there is no escaping the fact that he was dreadful as he is 90 % of the time and 2 unglamorous long distance covering runs will not get us promoted especially when he cant be bothered with the one that mattered.

Whilst he was out suspended we missed him like typhoid !! Ineffective in this agricultural league .....

Seems like he changed the game today.

He had his "one in ten" good game today...... fabulous pass to Sharp for the second goal. if the opposition held off him like that every game then I wouldn't have a problem having him on the bench ........ regrettably, teams will continue to harass him, close him down, foul him and get in his face and he will continue to be ineffective in this agricultural division.

It's a bit unfair on Baxter. Everyone of our midfielders can't play in a 2. When we moved to 3 today, reed and Basham also improved.Let us not forget that Baxter came here as a number 10 and has never played the role. If we could get a game manager alongside Reed and Baxter, moving Basham, we could evolve quite nicely

Sorry mate but that's the way I see him. he's a great talent ( on paper ) but can't be relied on to deliver in this league. We need to play 2 up front so unless we go 3 at the back and play wing-backs, there's no place for Jose as far as I'm concerned because he can't play in a two man centre midfield.

We really are agreeing with the same thing here. Baxter in a 3 works with the right players with him. Add a Hammond type player to keep him disciplined and there is a player there.

Baxter also works in a five man midfield as well. He turned the game today - the pass to Sharp was something you would see in the Premier League. I agree, if we can have the protecting/enforcer player in there, and then allowing Baxter to control play, he will do good.

If we do that we end up in the same situation as last season ,we could play a 4-3-3 when Done is fit or with 2 strikers and a roving JCR ,however I agree with Robbie as I said in a post before the game in on here ,Baxter is a last 20 minute player when he can change and influence a game (as long as he doesn't get sent off :) )

Baxter's a "no.10" nothing else IMO. Maybe at a much higher level. We'll maybe never know.

heh.. well Jose came on today and well and truly fucked this thread up didn't he?? :D
but why can't you play like that more often Jose?? i reckon there is a decent player in there. in fact i reckon there is a decent player in a few of them but NC has put them back a bit and it will take a while ..

He's got the mobility and athleticism of Jan Molby but occasionally he has his passing and vision too.

How would you describe a number 10 ? He played well today btw ,hes been like a number two up to now.

A "No.10" plays just a bit deeper than the lone striker or the front two strikers dependant on the formation. He has a roving role where he plays in a mainly attacking role but with some responsibility for defensive duties when the team is up against it. Just like Sharp he needs a manager who knows his strengths and plays a formation and complementary players to help him strut his stuff. Not at all easy but if we dont do that then get rid of him.

In the right team he will excel. Play him as central midfield in 4-4-2 and he will be poor.
