Would we be better off with the squad that ended last season under Clough but managed by adkins. If clough decided to sigh jason Holt and steven davies would we have a few more points on the board. If we kept Doyle on the heart of midfield would we have conceded less goals. And having Turner as a back up keeper instead of long. Is this squad better or is the one under clough

"Is this squad better or is the one under clough" is not one yes or no question, it's two with different answers, so the poll results should be interesting. Yes this squad is better, no the one under Clough isn't.

[QUOsaying. Pedro Verde, post: 834517, member: 4791"]Slightly confusing question here
Im saying is the group of players we had under clough at the very end of last season better or worse than the one we have rights now under adkins

TE="barnyblade, post: 834521, member: 15727"]Think the 'or' is meant to be 'than'.

Yes is my answer but not half as much as I thought it would be.
Yeah sorry I thrased it wrong but I hope u get u get what I mean

Defence, improved with Edgar but still shite, Midfield, Doyle not replaced and Woolford is so bad a replacement for Murphy we have to play a inexperienced young lad out of position to cover. Attack, a slight improvement is Sammon really that much better than Higdon ? Sharpe is a slower version of McNulty but he is our best striker due to his know how and experience. Overall slight improvement in defence and attack but a good deal worse in midfield which says to me although a bit different we have made little if any progress as yet.

Last season we ended up knowing that we would need 2 cb's a midfielder and a striker going into the new season. Maybe a keeper, but not a must.

We have brought in 2 strikers and a defender on loan and replaced Murphy with Woolford. We still surprisingly miss a CB and CM from our needs. Seems to be recurring about every thread written at the moment.

Adkins has not been provided with the tools required to do the job, and I am wondering whether he should move back to a 4-5-1 with Sharp as spearhead until he is.

Don't think Sharp will do well as a lone striker from what i have seen since his return, he definitely benefits from having someone with him.

Ok. Im a bit tipsy, but nooooo. Holt was a ghost, admittedly stat wise he scored goals in a team otherwise bereft of them but I had no desire to sign him. Davies was bang average from what I saw and if we got him, it would have been as an oberpaid, past his best meh player. . . . So no. . .anyone who might be kept awake at night thinking of what might have been whilst thinking of those two needs their head read or some more beer or depending on age, some legal or illegal highs, and then to remember we're SUFC and that even though most of our heroes are not legends in the eyes of others, they are on a different planet to those two @¢>&[]%'s

Chuffinora mate just a bit! Assuming you have ever watched football I'm amazed you can't see just how much better.
More mobile than Higdon yes but Higdon knows where the goal is, I do wonder if Sammon does after seeing his two recent glaring misses, two poor players imo.

In fairness to Higdon, when he gets a chance he rarely misses. He does at least know where the net is and more often than not take up more threatening positions.

I felt we should've brought him on much earlier as Sammon could have played for 6 hours on Tuesday night and he wouldn't have scored. That said I do like his mobility and work rate but he was pretty awful for the last two games.

Praise the Lord. A different perspective on Higdon.

Higdon has scored 2 league goals for us, the last about a year ago. God help us if he is the goalscorer we're missing.

If Higdon knows where the goal is I would like him to show us. Personally I like my players to be able to run. Bit of a prerequisite that. No contest for me.

No it's worse. Selling Murphy was a retarded thing to do

No it wasn't.

Selling Murphy but not replacing him immediately, with a proper pacey winger, was the retarded bit.

As usual the cheap option of a combination of those already at the club was the outcome. Woolford and Adams.

Since Adams returned from England duty he's not featured due to illness. Now with my cynical hat on I might conclude that this "illness" could be to do with conversations he has had with the premiership bench warmers in that squad about the size of their wad compared to his. It's not beyond reason to think that premier clubs with an eye on lower league talent have suggested to their England U20 lads to tap up our Che to test the waters, is it?

Apples and oranges.
Clough was 4-5-1.
Adkins is 4-4-2.
We're using Clough's squad (largely) to play Adkins' games.
Also players can perform very differently for different managers, so even the same personnel would be in practice a different squad.
More generally our squad is imo clearly better than the one that ended last season. Sharp and Edgar in. Murphy out.

Don't agree with any of that.

I'd rather have Davies up front than Sammon. From what I've seen so far the ball stuck a lot better with Davies, he's better in the air and ditto linking play.

As for Doyle, and for that matter Collins, SUFC would be going in the right direction if they had both been replaced with similar types, but better and physically more imposing players.

I'm writing this after we equalised at Bradford but in my opinion we look headed for a further season in this division. The team are playing like relegation candidates, and the transfer window is shut into January ( How many more points will we have thrown away by then ?). We now revert to the old loan sticking plasters, trying to entice players from the league above who are always susceptible to last minute bids coming in from Championship sides). If we had gone about the transfer window as say for instance Bury, we wouldn't have been in this position. I am aware that there are players injured, that once fit will improve the team, but they are still some time from re-appearing and as I say points will continue to be thrown away. Anyway well done to the team for at least making a game of it second half. Gloomy moan over.:(

Of course not... We're a far better team for selling our best player and spending that poxy 1.5m.... You fucking tool
That's a bit out of order but I suppose looking at the time you posted it, understandable.

Steady on. It's me he offended. *You* can't go around forgiving him. Jesus ;-)

Meanwhile Murphy is top of Division 2 and just played two full games. Maybe roygbiv could stir things up with a Brighton fans' view on what a bargain they've got.

I wasn't forgiving him WHF, I'm not Jesus.

(Although quite often when I walk into a room I hear people muttering 'oh, Jesus Christ' so perhaps I am).
