Funny how on here everything can change within one game.

Firstly people saying we are in trouble, even though last week people were saying that Swindon beating the bottom team 3-1 showed we were on our way to the top.

Mceverly:

On here gone from best player to worst player on here, even though I don't think the goals were his fault, more down to diobolical refereeing.

Many more points about people going over the top however for know i'll keep it to the two .

So what I recommend is that most of you just keep a level head, so when we win you don't go over the top and when we lose you don't go over the top.

Thank you

Fine by me, Mashy.

Two weeks ago we did to Swindon what Bury did to us today. The players who had character and fight at the County Ground and at Peterborough, and who battled hard to win games against Chesterfield and Blackpool that we would have lost last season, have now gone to spineless, characterless chumps who haven't got a clue and will never make it at this or any level.

The truth is actually somewhere in between, as those of us that have had to watch United, or indeed any football or sport, for any length of time will know.

If we had won today, and by heck, we could have done (not should have done, note) we would all have been saying, "We'd have lost that last season."

For the record, not for the first time, I had an excellent day ruined by 90 minutes of football, but I wouldn't have been anywhere else this afternoon.

Completely agree with you mate, pretty much just posted the same thing on the "Bury - sign of things to come" thread.

J-Mac hasn't had the greatest game today, but there were at least 5 other players who could have defended the first, no one closed down the full back for the second (which wasn't J-Macs fault) and ok he got outmuscled for the third - but the game had gone by then.

It was just a poor team performance.

McEveley was once our best player?

At the end of the day, crap referee or not (which he was), no foul was given for the first, and I'm afraid for the third, we might as well have had Scougs defending it.

I'm not gonna complain about the game too much, as everyone has bad games and especially at this level, players are more inconsistent that in the upper tiers. I'm not even too bothered about McEveleys mistakes too much, as the first should definitely have been dealt with by plenty of other players after it happened. What I did hate and am really pissed off about is McEveleys absolute lack of leadership. He was the first to give up ffs! I see Edgar as the only real leader on the pitch. He wasn't at his best today, but he didn't give up and he was constantly talking to everyone - McEveley only seemed interested in the ref.

The good thing (if there i such a thing after a defeat) is that we have the opportunity to put things right quickly on Tuesday night, at home against a team who haven't won a league game this season

What am I saying?

McEveley is very consistent.. he always overplays and gets himself and the team into bother.

I'm pretty sure I read that the colossus that is Porter is injured and out for six weeks.
Thought I saw him running around ( sorry wrong choice of words) , in the highlight of yesterday's game ,
Agin the chav's .
However you could be right DD, and I'd happily stand corrected.

This I think is more of an issue. He isn't a leader at all. At Gillingham he was having a go at Long.

Yesterday he went flying into a tackle when he should've been keeping his head despite the provocations from the opposition and the referee.

I noticed it was Bash who went to fetch the ball and put it on the centre spot after either the second or third.

He also did this at Swindon in the play-offs.

And it's not like he's one-dimensional, the Basham roulette put in another appearance yesterday.

He strikes men as the obvious leader on the pitch. He even does the interviews.

If Adkins has made any mistakes I think a big one was making McEveley captain, and backing him.publicly so strongly.

Still, Sammon heads in that cross, and we might not be having this conversation.

But other players "overplay", afaics it's modern football. Baxter was at it. Reed was at it. When it comes off it sets us up, when it doesn't we should be set up to cover.

Their first yesterday was ridiculous. We had so many bodies covering, which is how it should be but they played a square pass and finished.

Not sure if it counts as bad luck or bad organisation.

all you can say is wow ,what a second goal from Bury , was tight till then
these things happen
still not as shit as Chelsea this season
Yes, but the 2nd goal could have been avoided,no one closed him down, and before the player got the ball, since we lost it we did put a single tackle in we just stood there waiting.

it was Collins who was giving a major bollocking to Long in the first half at Gillingham.

I don't know about Collins but McEveley definitely had a go at Long. I saw and heard almost exactly what he said. It was something about the goal kicks going to the opposition every time. He went back to Long a few minutes later and was more conciliatory - but overall it was not captaincy.

come on , how often do players hit angled screamers from 35 yards out

tell me when we last did it

ome goals care just wonder hits

Nathan Byrne did the same in the PO semi-final, not so much a "screamer" but still a shot from way out which we should have closed down much quicker.

I think a lot of negative comments (including mine on other Bury-related threads) are born of frustration...passion for the club and yearning for the Blades to win. I started to calm down the next day, now I'm looking forward to 3 points against Colchester.:)

Some Blades are much better fans than others, they don't get angry, annoyed, upset or any of the like. It's just unequalled, amazing, support. Consistent clapping, well done you. Some of us are scum who are such angry nasty men.
If you came in from work and McEveley was on top of your Mrs there's a few of you would give him a pat on the back cos he plays for United!

Overall I'm over the moon with Adkins, and the squad in general. But there are deficiencies in defence and in creativity. After 5 years I think a bit of frustration and anger is allowed, don't you?
