...Saturday 24th October is a 12.15 kick off. Doesn't leave Durham Constabulary much time to get down.:D

Quick aside - it's Sheffield Beer Festival that weekend at Kelham Island.

That's if there's any left of course (speaking as someone who didn't get in on the Saturday last year)

Annoyed about this :(

An old friend is coming up to Sheff that weekend from London. Was planning on taking him to the Lane (so I don't have to miss the match!) but he's going to have to set off pretty early to make it now. Not sure he'll be up for a 7am start on a weekend!

Is that unusual?

C'mon, let's ave it!!!

I've never seen the Millwall lot give anybody so much as a dirty look at our place, they don't travel well either. Can't see what the fuss is about.

Have Millwall ever caused us any problems up here? The fact they only bring 28 fans does make me feel safer I must admit

If teams which hate us i.e Wendy, Forest, Leeds can bring 2,000-5000 to the Lane and it usually passes off relatively easily then I really don't get all the big panic about Millwall. They aren't an army of invincible bastards who shit bullets, they have the same sort of hooligan element as many others do these days, i.e teenage scrotes trying to be hard men. And we're talking about a handful of 'em. Their reputation is outdated.

But surely keeping the Milwall fans in Sheffield between 3-5 would be best? Now, if we're winning 3-0, won't a few away fans be tempted to slink off, and have some 'fun' at Rotherham before it kicks off there?

Similarly, should they be such minded, they could decide to get to Rotherham for 5 o'clock to lay siege when their match finishes...

The only thing it does prevent is Milwall fans and Owls fans mixing in the station at about 2.

Cuz the pigs are at Rotherham that day, kicked off between them n millwall last season

Rov'rum play the pigs on the Friday as it's been moved for Sky Sports, so they should move it back to 3pm.

The only 'incident' I can recall was when we played them a few years ago and a very small group of knuckle draggers tried to get at all the Blades minding their own business on Bramall Lane. The only things stopping them was a huge wall of Police. It was hilarious.

A friend of mine says that they smashed up some cars in Aldi car park as well, though I can't confirm this myself.

They now nominate a game every season as their "flag day" when they turn out a good following - last season it was Rotherham... it usually means that the following includes a lot of numpties rather than their genuine hard-core supporters (hence the bother there)... and also police, as a matter of policy tend to tolerate a lot worse behaviour from them than they would from any other set of supporters because clamping down usually results in even worse behaviour - it's become self-fulfilling - "leave em to it", so they stretch what they can get away with... then that becomes the norm, and again because the sherrifs don't want to cause a reaction they stretch that norm to a new norm when they then misbehave.

Don't know which game they've decided is their good away-day this season - and as they're down a division it may be less attractive to some of the idiots now...

but as has been noted, they've usually created very little fuss at Bramall Lane and I've often thought of them as fans having a sense of humour, an attitude of frustrated success starved resignation and are more concerned with enjoying the sights and sounds (and tastes) of Sheffield when I've come across them.

There was some trouble in the early 2000s when Millwall travelled up and came haring out of the away end post match, then were promptly chased back in by United's element. Also probably 5 or 6 years ago they travelled again and there was lots of trouble around St Mary's Gate between opposing sides.

A notorious incident that went roughly as:

In the mid-80s they'd been playing a night match at Barnsley i think... a group of them came into Sheffield for a gargle after that game, and got into a series of scraps with locals. One of their lads (apparently) attempting to drop-kick someone fell backwards onto a kerb, smacked his head and later died.

The following year the same group hired a van, went to their West Brom away game, and drove up to Sheffield afterwards - allegedly with a deliberate mission to even the score. They called in early bar on the edge of Sheffield for a sherbert or two and to wind themselves up and "practise" their tactics for the trip into town.

Unfortunately their local knowledge was lacking, and the place they chose on the edge of Sheffield was "the George" in Woodhouse.

Now, Woodhouse - especially at that time - while not presenting a rough-arsed face to the world, was a very close knit community with a lot of seriously handy individuals that were very tight.

Big mistake. They mugged someone in the toilets, dropped my mates brother in the bar but then had to endure a bit of a kicking (and "Pool-balling") in the pub, during which word got round the rest of the pubs in Woodhouse. By the time the police arrived to haul what was left of them off for their own safety, I think they'd vowed to read up on safety helmets and defunct northern pit village culture.

.......Their reputation is outdated.

I don't think it's out-dated really - I believe (from experience and my 'Wall friends) that they have a number of people attached to them that know they can get away with more than other groups of supporters can - and as a result continue to push it and be a pain in the feckin' arse.

It's a shame - for their real fans, but also in the context of SUFC - you'd think that with the WHUFC "issues" we've had they'd see us some sort of northern brotherhood.... but their numpties (like most) can't think like that.

TBH I am more concerned with how I am going to be able to manage a full day and night on the lash and STILL be able to focus on the Kell Brook fight later in the evening......... :)

Note to anyone buying a ticket for the game:

United have designated this a Catagory A fixture, which personally I find effing ridiculous. So that makes it £23.

Doesn't affect me as I'm a season ticket holder but still......

Cool story.
I've always though of football violence as being for bullies. There's very few that want to know if they are outnumbered. I don't condone it but in Eastern Europe they meet in a secluded area miles from the game and fight it out, hooligans over here dress the part but seem to love having a police escort to the game.
It's so childish, if you want to fight go boxing or take up MMA.

The turnout the last time they played here was in response to a Blades turnout at the New Den for a well known Blade who had passed away. A sort of show of strength after being impressed by the Blades.

After working near the old Den for over two years and watching them in midweek games, they are a very insular fan base. The nobody likes us bit should really be " we don't like anybody".

I was there that day, It was more like an England match abroad vs Germany or something rather than a mandatory football league away day.

Tis a bit ridiculous that one... no disrespect to Millwall, but they ain't a massive draw for an early season, div 3 game - a middling London club on a bit of a decline and therefore with only a relatively low travelling support to distant places like Sheffield, and aren't full of well known players... maybe it's intended to put off a few numpties from both clubs... which wont work at £23 quid - that's probably "pie n mash wiv liquor" in the Lord Nelson... not gonna dissuade anyone.

I'd say it's definitely a calculated attempt to reduce the numbers. Unfortunately, the powers that be always respond to potential trouble by collectively penalising people. £23 for 3rd division football is beyond daft.

It was 86 I think it was also a Saturday game when they came into town it kicked off ouside The Mulberry
I was outside The Claymore, the Millwall fan fell and smashed his head on Commercial Street

The revenge job so Im led to believe started at Beighton then they made their way to Woodhouse
I was told it kicked off in The Royal not The George but Ive got that second hand I do know a couple of Woodhouse lads did time for the fracas with Millwall fans who got a severe beating
