Lies

I think at that point in time nobody had made bids. It must have happened afterwards. Either way, he's gone out of his own wishes now. I panicked a bit yesterday, not going to lie but after sleeping on it it's not the worst thing to happen to us. We got a decent fee and he plays in a position where we have plenty of other good players, (JCR, Flynn, Adams, Woolford). This money can be reinvested in another good player (or several). I know people are fearful because of past experiences but we have a great head scout based on his previous record with Scunthorpe.
Also, we won fairly convincingly today despite having about 10 first team/squad players injured!

Adkins, in his interview today stated that we'd been turning down offers for Murphy for a month. He said in an interview either this week or last that no one has bid for Murphy. Or it might have been Jimmy p . Either way, lies. Don't say anything if you;re making it up.

This is not the first time and he's only been in the job for 6 weeks. I'm not daft. It's quite easy to fend off questions. It makes no real difference to his ability as a manager but it's just a point of principle. Lie about one thing, lie about everything.

Before you start, I think Adkins was a brilliant appointment and I have faith in him to take us up. I just don't appreciate what he appears to be doing with his press conferences
Goodbye Murphy hello Che, u do the rest!!

why? Are people only allowed to moan on losses and praise on wins?

Draws must be highly confusing.

Personally, I'd say it;s better to moan on a victory and praise on a loss as you're likely to be more level headed.

Actually that sounds well weird.

Tiresome, fuckin tiresome. Juvenile musings of an adolescent.

carry on lads. Odd isn't it that if we'd have lost there would be none of this backlash.

I've heard it said that 'we've had no interest in any of our players'. Odd that no one remembers now we've won ONE WHOLE GAME.

Considering what's happened over the last week, it's a great win. But my point is about the Adkins spin (which is clearly successful at the target audience of 2/3s who wanted to keep Clough and 1/3-1/2 who believe it's ok for you to rape someone as long as you score a lot of goals.)
You're covering yourself in glory on this thread fella.

Couldn't give a shit. Actually, make that couldn't give a fucking shit.
I've posted what I think about 'lying' before. We all do it, particularly in business, and usually for good reasons.
If anyone has even lied here, it's a typical 'football lie' the type Redknapp uttered on regular basis whenever asked about any kind of contract dealings.

Wow it isn't the first time that our owners/manager have been short with the actual truth and certainly wont be the last.

They live under the illusion

*You can't handle the truth!*

"Few good men"

Basically, there's been an influx of BM posters on here and Robbie has reverted to his B

bit like Take That really.

I think judging by his posts last night robbiez666 had been mixing his evening glass of turps up with some hard bastard pills with typically predictable consequences.

Shame really because the recent influx of BM have generally been a good bunch of knowledgable Blades who have freshened up the debate, but then there always been one silly billy who follows the crowd

It's either comedy gold robbie or you live near a plentiful supply of magic mushrooms.

Manager lies? Won't be the first or last time. What next? You sue? You show a sense of outrage that someone, somewhere went awol where the truth was told, yet we listen to this regularly when footballers and managers are interviewed, be it a small untruth, or a huge whopper.

It would be lovely if all we ever heard was an honest appraisal of the state of the game, but should there be problems at a particular club, say ours, then do you really expect the manager to say there are problems that he's dealing with? No, they adopt a position of being underwhelmed and surprised the question is asked.
If you haven't realised that this is how things work then you're in for a reality check of ginormous proportions.

Good thread but I only really took this useful info from it...

It looking like Mr Adkins is going to play a different type of game to Mr Clough, so I'm expecting a few more Icons on their bikes and that aint no lie...;)
Agreed. Adams will be the next to be sold in the JTW just as he has achieved legendary status.:)

Could you say which of Jim Phipps or Nigel Adkins is lying, preferably with evidence, and then repeat - just so we're clear - that this means they (Jim Phipps or Nigel Adkins - or, come to think of it, maybe both) are going to lie all the time.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo620mWdtzc

this was an interview at the meet the manager (16th July i think) which states

'I ain't getting rid of Jamie Murphy' 'Football is buisness so if we get an offer down the line we might have to accept'

so with this being less than a month from when the actual offer was accepted and at this point he is stating "if we get an offer down the line" which to me infers we havent had one as yet..

I am also fairly surely it was reiterrated under questioning from Jonathan Buchan (sp) closer to the start of the season too

so whether its an "outright lie" or someone being extremely economical with the truth, it's not great imo...

Fuck Off.

This is to Robbie, not you Alco : There was a time I would be staggered by someone having a good old moan about the Manager on his SECOND league game not telling everyone how much money we would be spending on players and who we would be spending it on.

Sadly around here that day is in the past. We moan when we win, we moan when we lose, we moan when we sign players, we moan when we don't. Then we justify the moaning by saying that moaning when we win is better than moaning when we lose. Get a fucking grip and stop being a tool

Despite the fact he says a lot, I think Adkins is quite clever at not really giving much away in interviews. Just listened to the latest one on audioboom and again he fills it with his positive soundbites, repeats them a lot, and just says what he feels will get him through it without giving away anything he doesn't want to. When asked about injuries for example all we got was that Harris is having an operation and absolutely nowt else. Doesn't make scintillating listening but fair play to him. Same on being asked about players we might be looking at - why should he divulge stuff like that? He could just say no comment but that would probably be interpreted one way or another, so he basically gives a non-committal bit of waffle and the interviewer just leaves it at that. Pretty pointless most of it really.

And given how quick some are to find fault, I could clap myself silly over a stat like that. What a manager! We are indeed destined for Champions League. :)

My point exactly. No-one and nothing to judge this early in the season, beyond some vague indicators. It's like looking at the League table after the Gillingham game and bemoaning the fact we re bottom. Unless something is grossly, obviously, "you'd have to be deaf, blind, stupid and dead to not spot it" wrong, then there's no point fiddling and whinging until at least 5 games in.
