Jim Phipps has been spending the evening on Twitter addressing some very pissed off Blades, all of which mentioned the need for fresh centre-halves and expressed their dismay at this not being sorted in the summer.
He's emphasised that the window is still open, which indicates that we intend to put it right soon.

I have to say I admire Phipps for facing the supporters, especially given the mood we're in right now. Hopefully as the season pans out, this will turn out to have been a brief mis-step.

The players still need to grow a spine though...

The Twitter comments look pretty intemperate, which is a shame - although he handles it very well.

He was on fb earlier and there it was a bit more Wait-and-See, though not from everyone of course.

he could easily walk away from the situation and ignore us.. but he doesnt he sticks around at the best and worse times which i think shows his commitment and (at times) bravery ,we can be a fierce lot when we are pissed off

Its only on simmer, imagine if Clough had still been in charge?

Fair play to him, he could easily ignore the fans right now.

Jim Phipps would be better off helping Adkins finance some centre backs before the next game rather than sugar coating the turd and blowing warm air up disgruntled fans arseholes.

Buy some defender yer cunts

Amen

I wait with fucking baited breath to see if words are transferred into actions here.

I couldn't give a fat rat's cock about 'cup runs' this season. They deflect any energy away from the real challenge - being promoted automatically with four weeks to go at the end of the season. I expect a change in formation for Saturday - if it is 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 then bring it on. As long as we don't concede. I expect three central defenders who were last season playing for teams above us to be brought in. I expect certain players to be paid off and released. I couldn't give two rat's cocks who this upsets. By the beginning of September I expect our minus four GD to be plus three and that woeful day at Gillingham to be just a bump in the road.

Make it so Phipps. Make it so McCabe. Thousands of Blades fans will not be so fucking forgiving this time.

a) why would three players from the league above want to come rushing to play for us, and b) why do they need to be from the league above anyway? (oh, unless by above us you mean Swindon?)

That will be a problem if we get off to a poor start and lose a couple more.

He is paid by his employer. The Prince, to do this. Make no mistake if the Prince went Mr Phipps would be gone. It is a job, he may do it very well, but don't confuse work passion with a supporters passion.

We laughed at Lee Strafford's attempts at appeasing frustrated Wendy fans a few years ago. I can imagine Wendy fans laughing at Phipps doing the same to us
I think Phipps behaves quite differently to Stratford in his fans promises.

That said, it's no less cringeworthy and as others have said, he'd be much better concentrating on running the club than just pissing about on Twitter with little snippets of info.

I read the other week that he'd done some impromptu q&a on Facebook with a fan. General stuff, investment, players, pitch, shit shirts etc but I was extremely surprised he was asked about the formation. I was even more surprised he responded.

I really don't want the chairman or board members talking about the playing side like that. They know nothing about it, less than nothing in Jims case. It's like Adkins answering questions on sponsorships.

The best apology Jim can make for Saturday is to give Adkins the players he needs

They been saying that since Harry left last season along with " but it's no good buying some one that's no better than what we already have".

Now that one is hard to swallow... ;)
Maybe we should challenge them to buy a CB who is no better than what we already have. Probably a lot harder than they think...

a) Money. Released players without contracts would want to come to our team if they are being paid above the going rate. This is a Game Changing Investment in the truest sense of the word, is it not?

b) Because our team now needs to stop fucking about varnishing turds and rinsing spew and bring in players who are at Championship standard, or god forbid ... above that. Face it, we always sell those players, do we not? Let's have a pardigm shift in the fortunes of our club and for once, actually buy players who aren't Barry Oddnobs or straight-to-the-treatment-table journeymen, eh? You never know, we might actually start stringing together a series of results that catapults us up the table.

I believe Jim in a previous life was involved in the legal side of the USA / Iraq peace negotiations. I bet he looks back and thinks that was a damn sight easier than dealing with the issues at BDTBL. The Iraquis were a pushover compared to a load of irate Blades.

I never dare to look at what is being posted on Facebook to Phipps and firmly believe both he and Adkins should keep well away. If they want feedback they should choose their supporters' group. If they wish to communicate they can do so by various means.

Indeed. One a place ripped apart, being unable to rebuild despite investment, facing what seems like a never-ending plague of infighting.

The other, Iraq.

Of course should Jim not like the questions from fans on FB and Twitter he can block you with a click of the mouse, that way everything is sweet as the only fans he talks to are the brown noser's. Nice one.

Jim spending an hour responding to fans is not going to take him away from more important duties. He's not ignoring emails from eager agents offering defenders for nowt, just because he's wanking away the hours on Twitter,

For years and years supporters were complaining about a lack of transparency and figurehead who was open to interaction with the fanbase. Now we have one. It's very clear he works his knackers off on every facet of the club. He could certainly tone it down from time to time, but he's not ignoring even the most abusive and idiotic of fans; for that he should be applauded.

.. and isn't asking people to turn up with a paint brush and tin of paint.

No, but could everyone turn up with Square Meter of Turf out of their front garden, and we may have a game Saturday ....

Injured defenders:

Brayford
Kennedy
Harris
Mcgahey

That's a probable 3 out of our first choice back four if all fit.

Adkin's has repeatedly said he's chasing his targets down. Now maybe he should change his targets and get just get someone in to plug the gap or he can hang on and ( in his opinion) get the right players in.

It's a gamble that he's 3 points down on at the moment, but the right signings now can surely make up that gap later and help get this team promoted.

UTB!

I'd agree with that, although sadly Tel can only be considered backup these days due to his injuries. I wonder how long her's got left in the game to be perfectly honest.

To that extent, we still need 2 central defenders which is what pretty much everyone has been saying since Harry left. It really is astounding that we didn't address this first above all other positions.

I do have a hunch that Brentford have said they'd be willing to let Dean go when they have their own targets in, and as such Nigel has been waiting for that.

I've got my phaser set to "Stun" and intend to shoot myself at 14:55 every Saturday for a couple of months to see if it soothes the pain
Beer used to have some soothing qualities but after the last trip to the sick bay, it's losing it's efficacy, sadly.

Sadly, I don't think we'll see much of Kennedy this season. I hope I'm wrong as he'd be a big asset.
