You do realise that about 40-50% of the people on this forum will read those papers, and that something like 25-30% of the posters on here will be Tories, and most won't share your particular perspective.

You may not like their politics, but how does it become even remotely acceptable for anyone to label fellow supporters as "cunts", for instance as seems to happen? Where does this conceit come from?

Well the first poster said that The Telegraph was written, produced and published by cunts. He said nothing about 'fellow supporters'.

I'm the one who said 'fuck them and their entire readership' and I stand by it wholeheartedly. All of the above are vile publications which spread lies, bullshit and evil. Anyone who buys those rags is complicit in that so, as previously stated, fuck them. I dare say a few would agree with the sentiment.

Get off your fucking high horse. Where are fellow supporters labelled as cunts? Do tell.

On the subject of The Daily Telegraph and c**ts

Tyler - if you haven't read the Telegraph, why are you so angry about it? - 'fuck them and their entire readership'

I think that the Guardian has been far more corrosive, its effect on politics much more useful for the Tories in the run up to the last general election. A collection of unthought through 'think-pieces' written by journalists who are 90% privately educated and 95% London-based - so politically correct that they wouldn't say that Ed. Milliband was unelectable* - it was like the Emperor's New Clothes....look what happened. They pretend to hate the status-quo but, at the same time, do very nicely thankyou out of it.

You should have seen the reaction of the middle-class, unthinking liberals the morning after the election, having dutifully bought the Guardian (and the Observer every Sunday) the poor darlings were actually shocked at the result!

That leaves the Mirror, they appear (to an occasional reader) to regard what happens in TV soap operas/Lady Gaga/Miley Cyrus/Colleen Rooney's performances as as reportable as what happens in War, how could anyone take that seriously? Too few words to take their sports reports very seriously either.

At least the Telegraph makes no pretence about its politics.

So there's nought left to read is there?

Because it was written by cunts, produced by cunts, and published by cunts.

Doesnt Henry Winter write for the Telegraph? In the mind of many one of the best football journos around. Just a thought.

The piece in question is shit but i care as much about this as i do who wears what shirt number next year.

You're right about the first poster - but my comment was generic - his comment (and yours) reflects a general attitude that I'm questioning, that reflected in some posters comments it's ok to label fellow supporters and forum members because they see the world differently to you, rather than debate ideas with them. It's a particularly childish activity and reflects an insularity of world view.

And I buy the Telegraph.

Had some great days there though

My first ever away game... (we lost)... wet, dank, drizzly day. Benches for seats (white lines drawn across the long benches to delineate each "seat"). Despite the defeat, I'd got the bug then of going to other ground's - so yeah, have some affection for the place.

I think the same fixture was Silent's first ever away game too.

You make a good point, to varying degrees they all distort world events to present a picture which follows their own narrative, and they also feed people garbage in pursuit of cheap sensationalism. It's essentially anti-journalism.

I believe that the print media will eventually wither into insignificance. One of the positive things about the internet is that people can now get their information from a range of sources and perspectives. It's no longer a closed market.

I maybe overstepped the mark by attacking the readers of those publications, posting whilst inebriated is rarely a good idea, for which I apologise.

As for the publications themselves? well you get the idea.

Yes it was March 21st 1970. Len Glover gave Leicester the lead, Gil Reece equalised just before half time. Rodney Fern hit Leicester's winner. The ref disallowed a goal by Woody near the end of the match and my dad was annoyed at the decision. After the game, my dad, my cousin and I went over to outside the players entrance to see the Blades players signing autographs as they were about to get into the club's coach. I remember Hodgy looking upset by some of the fans comments towards the coach (my dad was saying that the fans were saying that we had blown our chances of promotion as it was our second defeat in a row and Blackpool had won their match that day) and Eddie Colquhouun walked over to the front of the coach to yell at the fans saying that we still have a good chance of getting promotion. Woody gave a signal to my dad through the coach window to lift me up and pass my programme to him through the little sliding window at the top of the window so that he would get all the players to sign my programme! I was awestruck and speechless and my dad had to remind me to say "thank you" to Woody

You got the team's autographs and attention from Woody after the game.

I got piss wet through and cold cos when we got back to the multi-storey we couldn't find the car.

It was one of those with alternate layers where you can only get each layer from its own stairwell and walkways... (like a double helix kind of thing). Dad and I kept going to what we thought was the exact spot we'd parked then downstairs again then back up... no car... didn't realise we were using the wrong bloody stair case - we were getting seriously worried - then after walking outside the car park we obviously went up a different staircase to find my mother and sister (who'd spent the afternoon shopping) in the car wetting themselves laughing at the concern on our faces.

Still didn't matter. I was hooked on the idea of seeing other grounds though at 8 years old I couldn't understand why the other fans were criticising my team and heroes so fiercely... . How could they prefer their own team's players, they weren't anywhere near as good as United's players!

all these articles are really only about the top 5 or 6 clubs , pulling each other to bits , they just pick the rest at random as they dont give a shit
probably just looked them up on groundsguides.com
certainly never visited them all during their prem years

we are one of only 15 clubs thats averaged over 30k in the prem
something south barnsley buddhist tuna gutters fc cant claim

Anything that has the amount of money behind it that a national daily costs will undoubtedly have a heavy slant and therefore be an unreliable source of information.

Anyone who routinely reads one newspaper will have a distorted outlook, no question. A lot of the dedicated readership will die out in time but I think a huge number of frustrated people of working age still buy papers just for their daily shot of confirmation bias. They have someone to blame in hard copy right in front of them, then they can get on with their day.

a joke of a list, Bolton's stadium is 14th as got to be the joke of the century and its wonderful to see the lifeless stadium of Old Trafford coming in first.

agreed, I'm a left wing socialist and I enjoy reading the Telegraph if I find it on a train. I walk through first-class where they have free copies of the Times just to pinch one, I even read a bit of it if I'm struggling with the crossword (everytime now I'm out of practice).

The one I can't stand is the Guardian, for exactly the reason you state D1360 I broadly(ish) agree with its slant but the lazy posh blighters who write it are so isolated in their environment of like-minded souls that they don't realise that the great British electorate don't think exactly the same things as they do. Then when the vote tells them they're wrong they lash out at the working-class and accuse them of being reactionary.

Patronising bastards.

I want to read things that tell me something I didn't know already - I think you learn more from works of fiction anyway and I buy books from charity shops, that way you end up reading authors you've never read before.
