About that pesky telephone system many have complained about. We are almost to the end. We hope to have a no cost line and improved service ready by the Chesterfield match. It is my fond hope that you will never have to listen to Let Me Hold You ... ever again, unless of course you download it from iTunes for the sake of nostalgia. I will tell you this, Sometimes the easiest things work out to be the hardest. I got the first complaints about the system nearly two years ago when we joined the club. I thought we could get it solved in days. Alas. My apologies for the long, long delay and gratitude for your patience. Also, my special thanks to our wonderful ticket office team, who do great work for us! Up the Blades!!!

This information is in the more cryptically entitled Let Me Hold You thread.

Will they merge? Which title will be victorious? Only time will tell...

Think they will get rid of the £1 web fee when no postage out of tickets is required as well?

didn't see owt about that - are they not posting tickets out any more? Please don't tell me I will have to queue to collect them on the day!

Card payments aren't free to process, I don't think it's that unreasonable. Although they are now posting second class I noticed.

Also odd that they couldn't package up my membership card + Gillingham + Blackpool tickets in one dispatch

But under current UK regulations (I say regulation because its not law) for online purchases you must offer a free option (usually debit cards) and allowed to surcharge the actual cost of credit cards. Interestingly this is on average 0.8% but most companies charge 2%. Debit cards normally cost around 18p to process irrespective of amount. These are being capped by the EU from October at 0.8% for credit cards and 0.3% for debit cards. To get around this United have tied it up as a Web Processing fee which encompasses the fee and p&p. But there is no P&P when put onto an existing card and therefore if I pay by debit card (which I normally do) then there should be no fee involved.

At least we don't have the ludicrous situation of concert tickets where they add on a 10% transaction fee which is often charged even when paying cash at the venue, that certainly happened to my mum recently when paying for something or other at the Arena.

Oh god that's ridiculous. The last time I bought a major concert ticket was at the MEN Arena in person, they wanted six quid in booking fees to sell me a ticket using my debit card. Apparently it's to create "fairness" to those buying online. Asked what the fees would be for paying in cash. Told zero, walked round the corner, withdrew the requisite amount, thank you goodbye

Got our Chesterfield and Blackpool tickets in one dispatch, so only paid one £1 web processing fee.

I've worked out why they charge £1 on top of orders now even when they have minimal expenses on most orders - it's so that when someone sends me my Blackpool ticket (part 2 out of 3 of my order with £1 fees, Gillingham ticket arrived first, member card yet to arrive) and thinks that franking the envelope as a heavy large letter and paying £1.20ish in the process is a good idea, they can recoup their losses elsewhere

That does sound bonkers. I thought the web fee was a bit cheeky, but as someone pointed out on here it does cost them to process a card and then there's the postage and the cost for someone to pop em into an envelope I suppose.
