Higdon injury prone,Done injured, Adams and DG with limited experience leaving us with one other striker again with limited experience. Can't see how signing a proven striker at this level and above can be classed as a ridiculous decision.

We have Flynn, Murphy, Baxter, McNulty, Done, JCR, Higdon, Diego, Adams and Woolford at the club already who can play at least one position in a front three, and most of these can easily play in a front two. I'm probably missing out a couple of people as well. Sharp does not offer a significant improvement over the best of whichever two in a 4-4-2 or three in a 4-3-3 you want to use, and we clearly do not need any depth.

If we were in for a player who'd started his career at, say, Charlton, had a couple of good seasons at Tranmere when we were still in the Premier League, returned to Charlton and did little, spending time on loan at Leyton Orient instead, who he then joined permanently and did alright at, before making a move to Wigan and not breaking through, spending most of his time in the last two years on loan at Ipswich and Millwall doing nothing, most of us would say "why are we signing this journeyman rubbish and not a centre back". Suppose bladey bladeness trumps common sense

There are a dozen or more options out there just as good, probably a lot more accessible and able to fit into our current squad (which so far hasn't been touched)

Go on then, name 4! If there are a dozen or more, 4 should be a piece of piss!

we all seem to be right behind Nigel Adkins, but there are a few doubters with this Billy Sharp link. if we are behind him then back his decisions
People still seem to be saying fans are against the signing. I'm not seeing that one this board- just people challenging comments such as "proven goal scorer", "everyone else in league one would love to sign him", and other such OTT comments.
Sign him by all means but he isn't without risk nor should we expect 25-30 goals a season from him for the £1m outlay.

Signing a proven striker to put the ball in the net is not mutually exclusive to improving the defence.

Should said proven striker come first, with defensive reinforcements coming later, then so be it !!

For now, let's have a wee bit of faith in the club and the manager to deliver and that any judgement be made next May.

May?

Might be all over end of September AGAIN.

Do we not learn by our mistakes?

Remind me which of those players is a proven L1 striker. Nowt to do with this pathetic bladey blade garbage you are spouting. Most clubs in our league would have sharp and the scenario you talk about it just blinkered nonsense. At least you have your scapegoat.

Finally how do you know Adkins isn't trying to get a centre back in?

Every signing is a risk But with Done still not starting training and doubts remaining over Higdon and McNulty we are short of a goalscorer (as well as centre halfs) and I find it strange that some fans appear to not be able to see this.

It was no coincidence that he started scoring after beattie left. He then got injured for the remainder of the season

I was told he was fit for the play-off final but Blackwell left him out of the squad, pinning his hopes on the other Beattie.

What makes you think fans can't see that we need a forward and Billy is a forward? I think they can see that, they just don't accept the "proven goal scorer" tag or think he's a guarantee of anything. For a cool million in the 3rs division they have their doubts about the potential risk given his last two times at the club.

Where has thus 'cool million' line come from?

The general press seem to be talking about it. At least a 500k fee and then there's the signing on and wages. Easily pushing it over the 1 million mark.
Do you really think it will be cheaper, it would certainly help those of us keeping our feet on the ground?

We will not be paying anything like a million for Billy Sharp maybe half that at most. What did L**ds pay £600k ? Utter tosh to suggest we will pay more than that. It don't matter who we buy every player gets a wage Sharp is no different to anyone else, it is quite misleading to add another £500k wages to the fee. I would be interested to know if this mythical £500k is one years wages or five years wages pure speculation if you ask me.

The invective against Sharp among some Blades in this thread who usually bound to the defence of anyone or anything connected to the club is baffling. How's about giving the poor bastard a chance like the ones you plead for when others are criticised?

Leaves an incredibly sour taste when any player is slagged off before he arrives (his prior spells mean fuck all), let alone one who obviously wants to be a success at the club.

I don't think given the wage at Leeds £3.2k/week with us is an over to top presumption actually it's a very conservative estimate.
Anyway the deal is done, let hope he's the proven goalscorer many on here are so certain he is. Fingers crossed.

Where has he been slagged off?
I see some fans over exaggerations being challenged or disagreed with, but no slagging off of the player.

It depends of course what your definition of slagging off includes. I'd say suggestions that he's fat, that his legs have gone, that he'll be constantly offside, that he's only being signed because he's a Blade, that he's been on the decline for years and that in general he's not good enough; all come under the umbrella of 'slagging off'. In short, these views suggest that he's a poor signing and he's a waste of money. All of which I have seen on this board.

No doubt Pinchy will come up with a funny nickname for him in coming days like Elpiton. My sides have never recovered from that one.

Prove me wrong William. Bang the goals in and I'll save you a piece of humble pie with a lovely dollop of cream. Mmmmmmmmm....

A chance? He has already been here twice before.

He's been on decline for years is a fact based on the last few years and his record over that time - lets hope he can turn it around.

His always offside isn't a serious criticism, it's a light hearted jibe at how often he was caught offside in his last stay. I've not seen anyone making that claim in a nasty or attaching way.

People haven't said he's just being signed because he's a Blade, but that fans opinions are biased based on the fact he's a Blade.

I've also not seen anyone say it's a waste of money and a poor signing.

I'd agree with the fat jibes being slagging off but who's said that?

I must have missed a lot of posts.
