How many more think Tetley's used to very good but now is rubbish?

Is it that tastes in beer change over the years or has the beer changed?

Tetley's was a top pint - Tetley pub crawl anyone? 12 pubs in one day for a t-shirt, I think it was - Banner Cross, Robin Hood, Sheaf, Abbey, Woodseats Hotel, Chantrey, Beehive, Bath, Red Deer, Hallamshire, Saddle, Barrel.

Oh yes, of course it tastes different (and crap) as they now brew it in a factory in Wolverhampton instead of the original brewery in L***s.

Magnets now brewed by Cameron's in Hartlepool newki brown brewed at tadcaster by John smiths ,worlds gone mad .oh and stones is brewed at Wolverhampton I think .

Are there any pubs left in Darnall now? I drove through it the other week and didn't spot one.

I thought it was pretty much all Muslim but there's also a big Polish / East Europeam community there, so I imagine there'd be call for a couple of pubs

Actually, Darnall isn't looking too bad these days, I've seen it worse. Parts of it seemed quite respectable

[QUOit my imagination but wasn't just about every pub on West Street a Tetleys pub. The bedt pint for me was surely to be hsd in E="Wapping Blade, post: 791206, member: 2167"]Tetley's was a top pint - Tetley pub crawl anyone? 12 pubs in one day for a t-shirt, I think it was - Banner Cross, Robin Hood, Sheaf, Abbey, Woodseats Hotel, Chantrey, Beehive, Bath, Red Deer, Hallamshire, Saddle, Barrel.

Was it my imagination but during the 80's wasn't just about every single pub on West Street a Tetleys pub? The best pint for me was to be had in the West End Tavern though (even though its not on West Street it was where we always started).

The West End. 92 through to about 98, every Friday night, 6.30 onwards. Messy.

On the subject of Tetleys, a crawl around Hyde Park and Headingly in Leeds was always a good pint.

Yep - see list above plus Mailcoach I think and you've already added West End.

No mate, John O' Gaunt is at the Hemsworth bit of Gleadless Valley, Blackstock Road. I think only the Red Lion left at Townend, the Old Harrow is now a curry house I think
Thanks mate , used to see the daughter of the landlord of one of those boozers in townend , some session's we had there , thanks for getting back in touch .
UTB.

Yes the Middletons lived on Samuel Close Pete was a good mate of mine.
We went to Bluestone then Norfolk but I left there to go to Jordanthorpe half way through the second year.
Went to Bluestone myself , before going up to Norfolk park comp as it was then , played footie for the school with one of the lads . Went past his house on the way home most days , bit off the beaten track but I was chasing a girl from around there and a mate lived next road up .

Seen the Matilda mentioned in here. I work very near there and recently there's been people in there doing something. I assumed they were renovating it but they were only there for a short time and haven't been back since. Anyone know anything?

West End is now called Doctors Orders. Despite the wanky name it is a nice drop in for a cheap(ish) bite and a pint and I highly recommend it. They had a choice of 3 ales t'other day. 2 adult, 1 kid meal and it came to <£20.

It was the top rated "restaurant" (It is certainly a pub and not a restaurant!) in Sheffield on Trip Advisor when we went (which is why we went). Not sure it quite deserves that kind of status, but it is very nice!

CJs Colin Walters used to run it sadly passed away too young.

Has Dempseys at the bottom of't Moor been mentioned? I have lost track now. Was a notorious Blades pub at one time.

I don't think it will ever reopen as a pub again been shut ever since South Yorks finest decided to make an example of Dougie for letting cutomers in when we played Leeds when no pubs in the vicinity we allowed to open. He lost his licence but his son took it on for a short while before bailing out (must circa 20 years ago). However Dougie's son Darren soon moved onto Fanny's where he is still the landlord.
PS Dougie played once of England schoolboys and his framed shirt used to adorn the walls of the Matilda.

A thread on Sheffield Forum states the Matilda Tavern is reopening.

Can't se it. The buildings are currently being redeveloped but I don't think there's a pub involved. I'd like it to be true though :)

Had a few interesting discusions in the mid eighties early nineties with steve baxendale...got to the point he would send mick to talk to me before he would see me....

tramway used to be good, if full of the old school bbc boys, roger, bonyack, paddy, solly etc...never had a problem with them, but the younger members always thought they were summat special

saw a certain football hardman take a kicking in the crucketers one night...he showed off to the wrong person, but then I saw him mow down a number of the "feared"ocs..ironic smiley...
