I used to go to Rowlinson Youth club between 1976 -78. Dobcroft was much better for lasses though.

Im about 6 years older than you i went to Rolo Youth Club 71-72 and youre right the Dobcroft was better for the ladies we actually behaved in there.
Low Edges YC we could never get in.

We probably do know each especially if you are a oid town lad, ex hooligan, ex hard core clubber, South Side Sheffielder, building trade worker.:)
1.yes 2.not really 3.definitely 4 yes 5 no
you and sitters are a bit older than me i think by a couple of years.. if you know martin froggat then you're about 3 years older than me i reckon.. so i probably know you but you won't know me. what with you being one of the 'big lads' and all and me being a snotty first year:)

Ticked the three main boxes so we'd get on I reckon :)

Define hard core clubber.
A person male or female who as a single person spends a minimum of four sessions a week in night clubs ( between the hours of 11.00 pm and 6.00am) the departure time is optional whether you pull or fall over bolloxed.

yep.. definitely qualify :D .. didn't get a proper job until i was 30 odd :D
city centre to Lowedges was quite a walk at 3am.. didn't have time for one

I lived on batemoor and tried an acid tab. After getting paranoid in 3 taxis before I got to Nether edge I walked and dashed between streetlights to feel happy in the light. Took me nearly 6 hours to get home. I was 28 and the following day 're evaluated my life.

If you went to Rowlinson around that time, you should remember a lot of the Gleadless Valley/John O' Gaunt lads who used to go there, Martin "Wombat" Williams, Glen Gregory (not the the Heaven 17 one), Dave Wright, Alan Windle, etc. Wombat was a real hard nut!
John o gaunt , was that the boozer in townend , used to know some members of the family . Didn't they used to run a boozer in shire green as well ?
Just asking a question Grappler .

Dos'nt ring a bell fella Carters, Plants and Middletons were the big families around there at that time
If the Middletons lived up Samuel close went to school with one of the lads , used to live on the other side of the " blue bridge " on our Sid e Prestons , big Blades fans and " Tets " used to tell me about all the scraps him Nicky D , and the rest used to get into .
Saw them on the go at villa and forest away .

Yes the Middletons lived on Samuel Close Pete was a good mate of mine.
We went to Bluestone then Norfolk but I left there to go to Jordanthorpe half way through the second year.

Daft apeth, why did you take it in the first place ?

No mate, John O' Gaunt is at the Hemsworth bit of Gleadless Valley, Blackstock Road. I think only the Red Lion left at Townend, the Old Harrow is now a curry house I think

Of course, If we get back on topic and talk about Blade boozers, you have to include the Handsworth crawl. Cross Keys, Handsworth WMC, Old Crown, Turf Tavern (my first ever pint, Tetley Bitter when it was a decent pint), White Rose. It was customary to have a few there before moving closer to BDTBL

I looked at it and thought whats that little bit of paper going to do ,took it ,had a nightmare and never took one again.
that's part of the craic mate.. didn't like acid myself actually.. shouldn't laugh ..:D

You missed out the Norfolk Arms (Diamond, cos the Tetley's in there was 'kin awful)... and you were obviously too lazy to start at the Everest!

How many more think Tetley's used to very good but now is rubbish?

Is it that tastes in beer change over the years or has the beer changed?

Good question Grumps. Not sure myself, I know the brewery that used to provide for that side of Sheffield certainly has closed down. Tetley itself has changed hands as well, new owners + new brewers + new recipe= shit taste if you ask me.
