Some negative views there, not very encouraging.

Honest(?)
Average,
Nice guy,
.....awesome!

I think you have to cut through the level of bitterness shown to most players when they leave a club, especially when said club has just been relegated.

We're not signing a world beater by any means but we are signing a player coming off 2 full seasons in the Champ able to play in a number of positions including right midfield - one of the weaker areas of the current squad.

It doesn't detract from the need to recruit to other priority positions but he's certainly an improvement on what we current have down the right.

No rave reviews for sure but I'd say more were saying quite postive stuff or that he was average in that division. Given he's now dropping a league that could become above average. I'm trying to stay positive on this and trust the new manager as we honestly could not have got anyone better for this job.

Agree . For a starter for 10 , the bloke seems to be reliable , steady , versatile and could be a surprise package in league 1 . Also he is fit , not injury prone , which is a big bonus .

Ok the signing , has not set the world alight , but Adkins knows him better than we do .

We don't want fancy dans , in league 1 , we want players who will fight for the cause , and graft there bollocks off .

If good enough for Adkins , good enough for me .

Sounds a bit like Ben Davies from those comments but at least he's younger and taller.

He's hardly the player we need but he should be useful. This happens most times you change manager, the new guy wants a few players in who he knows and trusts. All part of the upheaval.

“Never rated him. He’s better off up there with his fellow degenerate northerners”

I'll take that as a decent recommendation from a soft southern nonce.

When did you northerners get so precious :)

I was asked about him on the League One Transfers thread on here...

I think he's a good signing for you. Can chip in with a few goals, and set some up...will certainly be one of the better creative players at this level.

My only criticism (and Millwall fans aren't really the bitter type, all I've ever known as to be is blunt, but not bitter, remember Millwall aren't really a typical 'southern' club, founded by dockers & whose sons and grandsons are now scaffolders, rail workers, brickies, scrap mental merchants & cabbies...we are not like Palace, all called Mark or Josh and working in IT...I digress)...is that he may be past his best. However, still plenty to offer at this level.

In fact I am sure Harris would have kept him, but Woolford made no secret about wanting to move back up north...and again, all credit to him, he never sulked or put in anything less than 100% every game he played.

I, and I think most Wall, wish him well, as he was a great pro and also put in some great performances season before last.

As an aside...your fellow yorkies in Doncaster Rovers are getting excited about Richard Chaplow I see...

Now, again this isn't bitter, if he makes it to Christmas & hasn't been shot & made into glue I'll be amazed!

Woolford is probably the rough diamond among the load of shit we released!

Quality.

“He was an honest player so credit where credit is due, never sulked when out of the team. The goals he scored last game of the season before last against Bournemouth and away to Fulham will be remembered. Good luck to him. One of the nice guys in football.”

Are we talking about Woolford? Collins? Doyle? Sorry, but we need/deserve better than the usual 'can do a job'-type.

Personally I think that's the missing ingredient, we've been crying out for a nice fella for years ;)

I know, next time we need a new manager, let's appoint "Millwall fans".

Could work...

We certainly wouldn't tolerate any uncommitted performances...and we'd make the steel city derby even more intense.

However, sadly I think we'd blow the entire budget on cheap coke and white trainers.

I had to look that up...

Now that's very northern...a knock off version of coca-cola!

Yeah three sets of idiots beating shit out of each other up on Division Street would be a bit more intense... as for the actual game, I've really never seen much difference between fans of clubs like SUFC, Millwall, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Cardiff for actual intensity of support during games (especially derbies).... that, the working class roots, and a couple of Lions supporting mates is why I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Millwall... Though I really wish you could get rid of the brain-dead meat-heads that keep splashing the coke all over the trainers before acting up like teenagers.

Cant see that ever happening while we remain a knock about club off the Old Kent Road.

Nothing has ever diluted our support in the way other clubs, including the ones you mention, have been diluted.

We've never had any sustained success, bouncing around the Championship & League One...

Therefore we've never attracted floating middle class fans on the post Euro 96 buzz...or lots of nice families from the suburbs...or Office types who like to be part of the 'footy banter'...

As the book by Micheal Calvin says...our fanbase is about 25 years behind the rest of the league's fan demographic.

Great posts mate, more please if you can spare the time.

As an ex-pat Londoner who swapped passports for the 'wilds' of Yorkshire, I have some knowledge of Millwall's history and standing, going back to Keith Weller and the epitome of a classic hard center-half, Barry Kitchener (what we could do with right now, he'd go through a forward like a dose of salts). As you so correctly describe, you've always been a club that summarised the song, 'No one likes us, we don't care'.

My cousin's husband is a life-long Lion's supporter. Lovely guy and very knowledgeable about football in general. I've been a Blade since the mid-60's, and following them has added an almost full head of grey hair. But that's the way it is, and this year we'll have a spanking brand new pitch which is meant to accelerate our promotion push - we'll see!

Good luck on your travels

Well, you'll like this then itsinyerblood...

First Millwall friendly of preseason v Bromley tonight...

Sleepy fitness exercise? Not on your life...extra police called in to police 3,000 'Raucous' away fans and our first sending off of the season...greeted with standing ovation.
