I despair at times with some Blades fans, honestly the thoughts that Murphy or Done could be easily replaced is just laughable. The thoughts that Billy feckin Sharpe is a better player than either of them is just plain ridiculous. £1.5m + Sharpe for Murphy is a piss take, I know every player has a price but what a lot of Blades fans don't realise is that price is yet another season in league one or lower, you would think after years of selling our best players and our resulting league standing the penny would drop ................ seems not in S2, do you really need to give certain people more ammunition for the Bladey blade agenda FFS :confused::confused::confused::confused:

I don't think anyone is saying Sharp is better than either of them. Personally out of Murphy and Done who would I rather lose it would be Murphy.....the reason being, he has more value, he IS inconsistent (surely you have to agree with that) and if we was proactive in the market I would replace Murphy immediately with Byrne from Swindon.

But knowing our club like we do, we will probably sell Murphy and not replace him so on the whole I agree with you we should not sell him. I wouldn't mind Sharp, Done and Murphy for me they are three players that would scare most opposition.

You don't get it at all do you ? Maguire wasn't replaced, Blackman ditto, McDonald ditto do you see the pattern or do i need to go on ? In fact I'll spell it out for you BEST PLAYERS SOLD DO NOT EVER GET ADEQUATELY REPLACED EQUALS A LOWER LEAGUE POSITION how hard is it to understand ?
That wasn't my point though. It's quite comical how you're emphasising so much a point that I wasn't even debating. If you sell players, you have to at least try and replace them, no matter what has gone off before. What do you expect me to say, so after selling Done and murphy for £7.5m (as everybody would do as we'd be royally ripping them off) then just do nothing with it because we have a history of not replacing players?

Your point being ? was it you would sell both Murphy and Done (our best two attackers) for £7.5 million and then worry about getting adequate replacements ? Only in S2 eh, it never happens fella contrast it with Bristol last summer Baldock was not sold until Agard was brought in from Championship club Rotherham, if you can't fathom it now you never will so no real point debating it we'll have to agree to disagree.

Here's a new way of thinking keep Murphy (who scored close on 20% of last seasons goals from the wing) and try and bring in Byrne for the other flank.

It literally does not matter how much money we get for them, it could be £10m each. It would cause us to go backwards not forwards and so there is no argument for it whatsoever. Sell your best players and you get worse

I despair at times with some Blades fans,

...who then say...

I'd let Murphy and Done go for the following prices:

Murphy - £5m
Done - £2.5m

Less than that and off you, match it and we have banked £7.5m to go out and buy some Championship standard players, whilst they can consider themselves a set of fools.

:)

It'll be the usual 'undisclosed'. :(

£10m each and you wouldn't sell them? What a ludicrous proposition. I don't think I'm going to say any more apart from 'I'm lost for words' on that one.

Of course we would sell them if offered that. All I'm saying is we wouldn't be able to attract better players to replace them and we'd finish below the 5th we achieved last season

Not really heard of swindons Byrne, until he ripped Harris a new one at the lane(1st leg play-off), is he really that good. Meh.

Just to clarify - If a player is playing at mid championship level and we offered his valuation in terms of his initial fee and then triple/quadruple his normal wages (this would be easily possible with £20m) you don't think any player would drop down in those circumstances? I think you'd find a lot of them would jump at it, especially with the size of our club.

Somebody playing at mid level championship level and willing to drop into league one is not likely to be a better player than Murphy or Done

The point is this, regardless of the league they are in, with £20m at our disposal for wages, we can very very easily attract players better than Murphy and Done, it's as simple as that. If you still disagree then theres nothing I can do, we'll have to agree to disagree fella. :)

Bristol got it spot on that pre-season. Apart from Agard from the championship and Wilbraham from Palace who were in the premier league, I think their other key signings were all from League's 1 and 2?

Money talks, if City or Chelsea found themselves in our league due to a Rangers type scenario do think they wouldn't have better players than Murphy?

But we're not City or Chelsea. They are far bigger than us and could attract players to the club on name alone. There are no examples, none, zilch of Sheffield United selling one of their top players and replacing him with a player that improves the squad no matter what money we got. £8m for Naughton/Walker and we bring in Andy Taylor. £3m James Beattie, Craig Beattie. £2m Harry Maguire... No one.

Sheffield United get worse every time they sell a good player, regardless of money. I don't see how anyone can not see that?

I agree with all that but I questioned your statement that somebody playing at mid level championship level and willing to drop into league one is not likely to be a better player than Murphy or Done.

Pay the wages and you will get them, simple.

Will we pay the wages?

Unlikely.

I've been impressed with him every time I've seen him.

He's played as a wing back for Swindon thuough. Not sure if he'd be better as a right back or a right winger in Adkins' system.

Byrne is Champ (min) bound with several clubs interested. I'd think we'd have 0% chance of persuading him to stay in L1.

I was going to say, people keep on about that Swindon winger when he was obviously a wing back against us. I only heard the second leg so I can't comment but he was brilliant at the Lane in the play-offs.

Can't argue with that. However, it's not just us - Wendy never recovered from selling Antonio and replaced him with the pedestrian Stevie May. Obviously Spurs and Liverpool are high-end teams who continue to sell their best players and replace them with dross. Man. U never got over selling Ronaldo etc. etc.

Can't argue with that either, but we finished 49th in the country last season after dropping down from 18th, 8 years ago because we keep selling our best players. Those teams have managed to at least keep hold of for long enough and/or replace adequately enough to stay at the top.

I know Twitter isn't that reliable but we are reportedly paying £950k for him. Murphy not leaving as part of a deal.

Once we've got our 2nd overpaid-for-Sharp stamp on the loyalty card, we can claim a free transfer when we next want to by him. But knowing our luck, he'll probably retire before we can claim it.

Fuck me. Why the fuck would we sign this slow, fat, over rated dwarf when we have quicker, more prolific dwarfs in Done and McNulty? So he's a Blade. So what? So am I. Sign me. I'll be just as useless but for half the price. Very bad move by new Nige and the club if true.

Marc McNulty is vastly overrated by a lot of our fans, don't get me wrong he shows glimpses but I'd have Sharp over him everyday of the week.
