Looks like I might have the biggest win so far: Blades 6 Chester City 1, hat-tricks for Deane and Agana, 17 September 1988.

L 4-2 at Bolton, 31/8/68. Ended up finishing 9th in the old div 2, which historically is about par for the course for us, isn't it?

While searching for this result, I also found our overall record, which, incredibly, shows that over the past 125 years the Blades have made us happy more times than sad:

Sheffield United all-time totals
Games won: 2197
Games drawn: 1309
Games lost: 1868
Goals for: 8298
Goals against: 7579
Average goals for: 1.54
Average goals against: 1.41

Can't find the fixtures for the season but mine was 12/12/82. We finished 11th in 3rd division so we'd just gone up the season before and were promoted to the 2nd division the season after.

Nearest was the 1-1 draw at Boston in the FA Cup Second Round on the 11th. Edwards scored for us. Kevin Blackwell in goal for them. We won the reply 5-1 on the 14th. A bizarre Mick Henderson OG put them 1-0 up ( I distinctly remember the Kop roundly booing Henderson the next time he got the ball), before Young 3, Morris and Edwards saw us win easily.

Have some highlights

I can't find this information.....? Anyone know the opening fixtures of 1987? As it'll be one of them. :D

All divisions:

puts us 6th!!!!

This one is based on performance in the top division only.... it actually suggests perpetual relegation (21st of all clubs)... which probably is par for the course:)

and average league position has us still in the top flight!!

can't vouch for any accuracy of any of that.

Won Watford 4-1 at home on 10th April 1990, the day before my birth.

The first game after I was born was 22nd Aug 1953 away vs Portsmouth in Div 1 and we won 4-3 with Hawksworth(2), Brook and Ringstead scoring. The first home game was the following Monday vs Arsenal. We won 1-0 in front of 50,723 with a goal from Browning.
Me too!
What a start … mind you it's mostly been downhill since then.

Born 13th March 1974.

Day before - lost at home to Ipswich 3-0

On the weekend, we beat Man City 1-0 at Maine Road.

We beat Chelsea a couple of days after Bert emerged.
How times have changed.

Geoff Salmons scored direct from a corner. Jim Brown's debut, my dad said Brown pulled off a string of fine saves
Did they play with boomerangs or something in them days silent? :)You seem to hear about players from around that era scoring from corners a quite few times. It doesn't happen much, if at all these days.

Aston Villa away, lost 3-1..... BUT did double over Pigs during season :-)

Dont you remember David Unsworth's goal direct from a corner at the Kop End in the 2-1 home win against Derby in Sept 2005?

I know it is slightly off the post but I remember my first ever match. It was at Bramall Lane on 5 April 1958 and we beat Donny Rovers 3-0. Funnily enough my memory is that the score was 3-1 but checking the records I see Donny did not score. I cannot remember any of the players except Hodgy was in goal. We sat in the old John Street stand. We did not live in Sheffield then (my maternal grandparents did but we're not interested in football) but in Lichfield and I was a sort of Wolves supporter though never saw them play. We moved to Sheffield in 1961 and that's when I started to go to the Lane and things developed from there.

I was two days old when we drew 1-1 with Bulgarian champions Levski Spartak (now known as Levski Sofia) in the Cyprus International Tournament. We then lost the final against them 2-0 a few days later.

The day after I was born United beat Birmingham 3-1 at BDTBL. Wednesday lost 2 nil at Villa so a decent start. September 1964.
