We beat Southend at home 2-0!

The next game wasnt so good as we got battered by some utter cunts away the day after xmas day

Derek Richardson's debut for connoisseurs of ineptitude.

I seem to recall him having a masterful debut and coming out and powerfully claiming crosses all night long.

We then trundle across town and he forgets to take his arms with him. A woefully pathetic display but matched by others around him. Only Mickey Speight seemed to be taking it seriously and look what happened to him.

A Blade mate had won a North Stand season ticket in a church raffle (second prize - two tickets et etc), so he got me, my dad and dad's mate tickets with him. Surrounded by Wendys all crowing and taking the piss. No trouble, but absolutely horrible and I've hated them all ever since. All of them.

Then back to school after Christmas and all the part time Leeds and Manyoo fans suddenly had new piggie scarves. Twats!

September 1964. Birchenall's 2nd game. First one was after a Mick Jones effort hit the bar and he slotted in the rebound. His second was a header heading in a Barry Hartle corner. We wore all white kit that day
actually my first derby was another win at the former Leppings Meadows pig farm, a year or 2 before when Derek Pace scored from our goal mouth ( might be embellishing it a bit ) WE NEVER SUNG WE WON 7-3 THEN EITHER won 2-1

Is was born neatly sandwiched between two away defeats in February 1981: 5-2 at Swindon (how familar!) on 14th Feb and 2-1 at Rotherham on 21st Feb. My birthday is the 17th.

We were in division 3 back then too!

Doc Pace's two goals in the 2-1 win at the sty was in February 1962

Remember vaguely standing on their kop about halfway , both sets of fans stood together and plenty of good natured banter , where did it all get nasty

As a child of the early sixties remember getting free tickets from school and going to the Lane one week and then catching the number 2 circular at the manor for the epic trip to south Barnsley with my school mates from the dark side, never any animosity, saw wednesday beat man utd 5-4 and burnley 7-0 and saying how lucky they were

2 days after I was born we beat Charlton away 2-0 on 13th February 1971 - Woodward and Dearden the scorers. Obviously, a couple of months later we sealed promotion back to the old 1st Division.... happier times. A few have asked how they can find this out. If you were born before 1990, a good source is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sheffield-United-The-First-Years/dp/B003P8V1ZW

After that, I'm sure tinternet will oblige!

Mine was "TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1-2 SHEFFIELD UNITED" On the 15th September 1973.

GOAL - v Spurs (a) 15.9.73. Woodward scored to complete 100 League goals for the club, and although he has certainly scored many more spectacular goals, I question whether he has shown such remarkable skill and calmness as he did for this one. Tottenham's defence got itself into a mess and Salmons was quick to pick up a loose ball and push it to Woodward out on the left inside the penalty area. The winger had an opponent with him, Jennings coming out and with almost no room Woodward curved the ball cleverly across the front of Jennings and watched it clip the foot of an upright and bounce gently over the line. Sir Alf Ramsey, a man not often known to show his appreciation, was at the match and he was overheard commenting to somebody at half time that Woodward's goal was "magnificent".

GOAL - v Charlton (a) 13.2.71. Johnson was guilty of a poor back pass, Dearden read it well and raced away to pull the ball wide of Wright for Woodward, rushing up fast, to add the finishing touch.

The sequence of the scores were wrong. We were losing 1-0, then, 1-1 and losing 2-1 etc

GOAL - v West Ham (h) 10.4.76. United got back on level terms with one of Woodward's vintage goals. There was no hint of danger when Franks pushed the ball to him well outside the penalty area, but Woodward, with that lazy swing of his right foot, hit the back of the net from way out with Day looking stunned by it all, as well he might.

Can't find the fixtures for the season but mine was 12/12/82. We finished 11th in 3rd division so we'd just gone up the season before and were promoted to the 2nd division the season after.

FA Cup 3rd Round vs Bury. 0-0 took place on the 6th Jan 1962...
no glamour opposition
no goalscorer to remember....

game before that one though was a league game (boxing day) vs Blackpool - won 2-1.... (still not exactly glamorous opposition though, even in '62)

Eggs were thrown by Burnley fans at Blades fans. Blades fans who were splattered by the eggs agreed to throw eggs from the back of the kop at the sty two weeks later

Brave boys ! any ideas who got our goals in that 2-2 draw ? my memory wasn't too great :D

Woody opened the scoring

GOAL - v Sheff Wed (a) 24.9.66. Bernard Shaw fed Reece and when the ball came across Ellis blocked efforts from Jones and Birchenall before Woodward nipped in to hit a low shot across Springett and into the net.

Mick Jones got our 2nd.

Jim McCalliog pulled one back and I think their equaliser was an own goal

What was the 1st Blades game when you were born?
Mine was a 3-3 home draw with Tottenham in Division 1 on 12th December 1964.
Jimmy Greaves got 1 for Spurs and the crowd was 19,325.
We finished 19th in the league that season.
I remember throwing a bog roll at Jimmy Greaves durring that game but missed, I shouldn't have tried to stream it

Two days after I arrived we drew 1-1 with QPR at home in 1974.

A cursory glance at Google couldn't find the scorer or programme - but at least I was briefly around when we were challenging in the big league.

April or August? Same score and same venue

We lost 2-5 at home to Everton in the first game of the season. According to the stats we shipped 5 a few times that season but it all ended well as we beat South Barnsley twice and they were relegated. 1954.
