I wasnt aware of the 7-3 win until after the BDM in 1979, I was sat in my dad's car feeling dejected at the defeat. He told me that the match is "just a one off" and that we were going up anyway and that Wendy would be staying in div 3. He was telling me that we had beaten Wendy 7-3 once and that was the first time I was aware of the 7-3 win but my dad couldnt remember which season it was

He was wrong about that :-)

The depressing thing about this thread is that I went to a lot of these matches :-( How can someone be posting on here who was born in 1999!

I was born around 10pm on 12/11/66. We drew 1-1 with Blackpool at home that day. Woodward (pen) scored and Gil Reece broke his leg. The next game was a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on 19/11/66. Birchenall scored.

Born 15th May 1991, so the season had just finished.

If I was to cheat and do the nearest one, then we beat Norwich 2-1 at home on the last game of the season (11th May).
If I do it properly and do the next league game then we drew 2-2 away on the 17th August...with Norwich.

He was wrong about that :)

.
Darren, do you remember the first time you were aware of the 7-3 win? I didnt read much into Blades history until in the late 1980s although in the early 1980s I occasionally went to the Central Library to look at the Green Un archives (they had original copies of the Green Un for several years in the Archives before most of them were microfilmed) but I was reading match reports from the early 1970s rather than look at any other seasons

When I was around 13 in 1979 and started looking at old Green Uns in the Central Library. I was so rock n roll as a youth.

Just remembered middle Sitwell jnr was born the afternoon of our 2-2 draw at Ipswich in the play off semis ,I was annoyed at the timing and blamed Mrs Sitwell ,also nearly named him Andy after Andy Walker out of spite :)

How do you find Blades fixtures/results for 1958?

Looked on Google and Yahoo and drawn a blank
The one good thing about Blades Mad is the "head to head" and "on this day" features on the forum.

When I started going regularly in the early 1980's the 7-3 game was 30 years ago, but you never heard anyone talk about it, much less sing about it. I knew about it from my Dad and Grandad and from the "30 years ago" feature in the programme.

Yet here we are, 35 years after Boxing day, and they still sing about it.

Season had finished by the time I popped out, so the first competitive game would have been the season opener against Swindon in 1979

27th September 1892 and we beat Grimsby 1-0 to move to 5th in the old second division.

I remember going to hillsborough and the tank scored 2 in a 2-0 win either 65 or 66 cant remember which was 15 years after a 7-3 win , we never sung we beat the scum 7-3 once
just shows how needy the porcine bunch are

September 1964. Birchenall's 2nd game. First one was after a Mick Jones effort hit the bar and he slotted in the rebound. His second was a header heading in a Barry Hartle corner. We wore all white kit that day

I'd never realised, but we lost 4-1 at home to Leeds in the League Cup on the day I was born. Started at a low point, unfortunately it's stayed low for much of the last 30 odd years.

26th August 19blahblah,

Lost 1-0 to Southampton at The Dell, but stuffed Swansea Town in the next match 6-1

We were supposed to play at home to Aldershot in the FA Cup 3rd round on 6th January but heavy snow forced postponement. My dad and I went to watch Wendy v Arsenal and it was a good match. The best bit was that when Arsenal's keeper Pat Jennings was running to the Kop after the half time break and snowballs were thrown at him. Wendy's manager, Jack Charlton, was furious and walked towards the Kop to tell the fans to stop throwing the snowballs but there were many thrown at him which dismayed him even further before walking back to his dugout. Really funny.

Did the same Silent, no Blades so went to Sty. To be fair I was outraged the unclean were throwing snow balls at Pat Jennings. That was the tie that had about ten replay's. Those were the days.

West Brom - not telling anyone the year;).

Was it a year when we won the FA Cup?

We won away at Swansea (0-2) the Saturday after I was born (15/11/58).

26th December 1992 - Inaugural Premier League season with Dave Bassett as manager

A 2-0 Loss away to Manchester City.
