I think we can forgive him that one considering he kept us almost single handedly from the most embarrassing defeat in our history for the rest of the match!

Quite right. I always have a wry smile when people say what a wonderful day that was. We were totally outplayed from first to last. It was footballers against committed triers and the gap was there for all to see. If ever the vast chasm between proper football and Dinosaur Dave's "style" was exposed it was that wretched day.

Our army of S2 parochialists should think on and stop this silly "style doesn't matter - I just want to win" tripe. Proper football played by proper footballers wins in the end. That's History's verdict, not mine.

Don't forget Dinosaur Dave's historic league double 2-0 and 3-1 against the unclean a couple of years earlier where hoofball triumphed! :)

The 2 players I'd most like to see again would be Currie and Woodward (with a special mention for Len Badger).

However, for the purpose of this thread the obvious answer is Ian Rush and Jimmy Johnstone (with a special mention for Paul McGrath).

Indeed it did. Very satisfying too, but like all false gods, Hoof had its day and turned to dust, which is why I was careful to say "in the end". I've always said Bassett was the right man at the right time. That time has gone. The whole world, except a band of "Japanese soldiers" in the heart of the S2 jungle, led by General Neanderthal Neil and his right-hand man (in every possible way!) SemiPro lrealised that a long time ago.

Only to go on and lose to George Graham's Arsenal.
