Press talk maybe, ..........but I think we should get used to it

Brighton are skint - have been for a few years now.

They won't be able to afford Murphy and if they want a bargain, they can fuck right off.

I'd have them down as relegation fodder next season.
Murph???? remember that kid called Maguire? - don't do it.

If Clough was still here , i have no doubt he would have the mindset to do a part x for COG . Adkins will be assessing all the playing staff , but we may see some surprises, going out of the door .

Murphy even if he was going to Brighton , it would be a backward step ( no bladey blade in it ) . All players at whatever club has a price , but for the blades its got to be the right one.

My gut feeling , is Murphy for one , wont be going anywhere , only because we will not get a offer , anywhere near the clubs valuation .

If a "bigger club " than Brighton came in for him , i also don't think we will have a Harry situation , with Murphy .

The bigger worry for me , is that we have a lot of players , who if Adkins wants to ship out , are not of interest to any other club , and the player in question , would not want to leave , due to wages he is already on.

Agreed, we have very few players other teams would pay money for.

Murphy, Done, Mcnulty, Reed, Adams, (perhaps Long to Motherwell) would all attract a bit of cash, but apart from Murphy, not a lot.

I could see Murphy going sadly. He's probably our best player and most sellable asset. We have been a selling club for a long time. Going to Brighton would be a promotion at least for one season, if not there it will somewhere else probably. I will be amazed if we make it past the next transfer window with him at the lane.

I don't agree why sign a contract? We were hardly guaranteed promotion when he signed it. Adkins needs to have a chat tell him what the aim is and what other signings he's after, then I believe murph will give it another year.

Literally the only player I feel is worth keeping. Get rid of him and we might as well purchase a whole new 11 for next season.

He shat himself going this far from Scotbland ,no way he will go that far.

Contracts mean nothing these days. When was the last time we didn't sell one of our best players in his prime? Genuine question.........

£1m Bid hahahahahhaha treble it and it might be worth a consideration for a split second, think this is a bit of creative journalism. Why would anyone want to go to Brighton as well ? A serious bid from one of the higher placed Championship clubs would though show us just how serious the board are about getting out of league one. We have no need to sell and Murphy has just extended his contract ................ mind you we had no reason to sell Maguire  Having said that I think there is more chance of us starting the 16-17 season in the championship than Brighton, I think it would be a backwards step for Murphy to go there.

I don't actually think we're a selling club now like we used to be. I think the only reason we sold maguire was because he wanted to go and refused to play. Hopefully murphy wants to stay.

Can't agree with that so Done, Basham,Adams,Kennedy,Reed should be binned.
You are joking ?
Freeman,Harris, Coutts, Mcnulty could shine under the new gaffer

The players you mention (ok maybe Adams apart) are only good relative to our team last season. None of those players would get into Bristol City's side of last season and that's where we should be aiming.

Don't fall into the trap that our better players shouldn't be replaced by players better than them.

BBC Football gossip column "reporting" this today:-

"Brighton are hoping to sign Iran World Cup winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh and are thought to have agreed a fee in excess of £1.4m with the 21-year-old's Dutch club NEC Nijmegen"

Good news for us ?

He's settled in the area. Why would he want to uproot his family, with a very young baby and be even further from their family in Scotland

I'm afraid you're way out there fella
The players I mention are good footballers at this level and with additions as necessary this manager will mould us into runaway champions.

I'm afraid last season's table would agree with me.

The manager was mainly to blame for that last season this will be completely different i'm sure about that.
We,ve now got a manager who wants to play football as it should be played,i think you'll find the players i've mentioned will flourish.
Stop being so negative and join the party!

Interesting things are valuation of a player. I've seen one or two posts suggesting that one million pounds for Murphy would would clinch a deal. Personally I think these types of value seem to ignore the fact that players who make a team a more attacking threat are rare on the ground. I accept that Murphy has moments when he's quiet, but this is not restricted to Murphy. When he's on form he's about as good as they get. Of course we've still to see if he can use his skills in a higher division, but what we do know is that when he's played against players from the Premiership Murphy has shown he's more than capable.

Given the rarity of attacking players, the fact that Murf can change a game, and my view is that the million I mentioned is way below his current valuation. As things stand I'd put a fee of somewhere between £3 - 4.5million on Murphy, with the obligatory clauses that would benefit United should he play a certain number of games, gain international recognition, and any transfer he may be involved in. I've lost count of the players whose valuation shot up over night once they put on the shirt of a premiership team. It's time we made sure that we hold on to our best players, or should a move prove necessary, we get something that is more than a basic amount.

It might be after his assessment NA decides that Murphy is not for him and he can be sold.

He's going to go somewhere, personally I hope it's sooner rather than later so we don't get sunk at the last minute as usual.

I like Jamie Murphy but if we can get somewhere in the region of £1.5m for him we should take it and reinvest in a couple of quality players for this level.

Jamie is very good at what he does and will probably be a reasonable Championship player but nothing more for me. Happy if he stays, not too disheartened if he goes and we reinvest well.

It's not negative, it's realism. And if you trawl through the forum, this is exactly what I was staying in August last season. It's clough's fault he brought in the players, yes. However, our squad is literally nowhere near the quality required to win the league. As I say, all you need to do is compare our first 11 against Bristol City's last year to know how far behind we are. We didn't have a single player in the team of the year.

I'm absolutely delighted we have Adkins, and an optimistic, not because he will improve our players but that he will bring in a better quality of player to allow us to win promotion. You are deluding yourself if you think any of our 11 (with the possible exception of Murphy, hence my original post) would get into Bristol City's team last season.

Fans need to be creful not to compare our players to last season, but to the WINNERS of the division in the past few seasons. Whilst I agree some of the players you mention are GOOD league 1 players, they are not the BEST and therein lies the difference for me.
