If people don't know who John Hughes is then there are some real footballing know nowts on here. Bloke took Hibs into Europe a few years ago and has done bits and bobs without a great deal of success until he took over ICT where he has done well again. I mentioned him to utter silence in 2013 when we sacked Wilson. It's where we are if you take the red and white glasses off.

Looking at it he's inherited a decent setup there left by terry butcher.

He was sacked by hibs and Hartlepool. I doubt their fans speak very highly of him.

He's hardly an inspiring choice other than he's had a decent cup run. The demise of rangers hearts and hibs have probably contributed to his success.

Would back him though but I'll be hoping he's an Alex Neil rather than a Derek mcinnes

Not really. If you were sacked by Apple and went to Samsung spilling secrets you'd be open to a action as most companies have a none disclosure aspect to your contract.
If we sign Adkins he'd need to settle with Reading. They would have to pay less and he's got a new job and contract so it suits everyone. Unlikely to be a huge problem to sort out, and certainly won't effect the appointment. At most a slight delay while the lawyers have a chat.

Was a bad analogy but was trying explain the difference between normal and protected contracts. Thing is you said "If we sign Adkins he'd need to settle with Reading" That's happened and he choose Gardening leave. Basically Utd would have to approach Reading with a buy out offer, because, legally his Reading contract is still seen as valid and you can't approach him directly. I do love the finer points of contracts law :) pain in the arse innit:D

I would be extremely concerned if the decision was being influenced by Phipps getting grief from fans on social media.

Phipps is getting grief.

and

The grief Phipps is getting is influencing the decision.

are two entirely different things.

The first one is undoubtedly true.

The second, well one only he knows - but I'd be flabbergasted if it was true, given his CV.

Have a like b56. I do find it surprising how many people are now starting to suggest that the board may be being slightly influenced by fans and social media - a point I made several weeks ago but was a lone voice at the time. It's dangerous a tell ya, dangerous.o_O

Sorry but I can't see this has any substance at all. It's just a feeding frenzy.

If you make enough prediction one of them will stick*. (It also helps if you're vague.)

I predict that after it's announced there'll be an, "I told you so." and someone who effectively bought a ticket and won a lottery will be revered as the new ITK guru of all things United.

UTB

*You can make a lot of money running a scam on this principle.

Maybe (hopefully) so WFH. I don't claim it to be any more than a feeling I had based on this being the first time that more things have happened which are popular with the general feeling amongst fans than at any time in my memory.

I first suggested him in 2009 as a possible replacement for Blackwell:-

Personally, I'd give Blackwell the next three games to try and turn things around. If he did go my first choice to replace him would be current Hibs / former Falkirk manager John Hughes:-

"Former Swansea striker Hughes took his first steps into management with Falkirk in January 2003, initially in a joint role with now-Burnley manager Owen Coyle. He twice won the First Division, with Falkirk gaining entry to the Scottish Premier League at the second time of asking in 2005 after building a new stadium. The Bairns thrived in the SPL until this season, when they completed a remarkable escape from relegation on the final day of the campaign. But they reached the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final and the Homecoming Scottish Cup final, qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history".

and...

"(Hibs player) Rankin said: "I am absolutely delighted. The style of football Falkirk play has probably made us a wee bit envious in the past. With Yogi (Hughes) coming in as manager I am sure he is going to bring that style of play. Hopefully we can use that as a benefit to our play. We always knew it was going to be a good game because the Falkirk team kept the ball, passed it and moved. It was difficult to play against because they were so comfortable on the ball. We are all looking forward to working that way under the manager."

He wouldn't be my first choice now but he wouldnt be the worst option either.

@Burts_11 No, it's not. Wait for it, Burts.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Interestingly tho, with Phipps's choice of words "wait for it" makes me think it is all done and dusted. If he had said discussions are ongoing and productive, that would've seemed less certain

Im sure I read from a "valid" itk on BladesMad that an appointment was made on Friday. So I guess our new manager has been selected. But seriously when theres speculation with this club, my brain power goes through the roof, deciphering the cryptic puzzles our quizmasters, I mean ITKs present us.

It's interesting that MK haven't said that Robinson has signed a new contract
It's supposedly up tomorrow isn't it?

Maybe we have to wait for the 1st of June.... For some strange reason

Hughes will be Manager sometime during this week. Done deal.

I hope you're wrong

DAVE78 on BM suggests you are

As I am aware of his previous, I 'll stick with him

"Hughes is the manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and will be next season."

Make of that what you will

Can't help but think that the reason we've got to wait till tomorrow is because Karl Robinsons contract expires today.
That's the most likely that we have to wait until someones contract technically expires. I can see Blade58 at 1 minute past midnight interrogating tinternet for all things Bladet Badeness ;)

Interesting ICT say Hughes WILL be managing them next season whilst Winkleman says he EXPECTS Karl Robinson to be manager next season.

Apparently we are waiting for Adkins to sort his contract situation out with Reading.

Who are Hibs ? :)

where's that from barney?

PS: FYI, I don't have a twitter or FB account :)
Me neither. Heard it on here, apparently theres some complications with his contractual situations with Reading. As i say though, theres rumours about everybody in the frame isn't there, i mean, Hughes because we were waiting till after the Scottish cup, Robinson as his contract ends tomorrow, and Adkins with his contract as well.. think it's best if we just wait tbh mate.
